Knee-high socks aren't just for school girls. Lately, we've seen thigh-highs get a modern upgrade, styled with shorts, skirts, and dresses. That's why we turned to style blogs for some great ideas on how to wear knee-highs. Bloggers Sarah Whitney of Pandora's Box, Kizzy-Kensa Maeckelbergh of The Fashion Pirate and Claire McManus of Stolen From Grandma showed off how it's done. Read on for more.

Southern California-based blogger Sarah Whitney perfected the socks-plus-sandals look, which we absolutely love (Rihanna does this so well!) by pairing black knee socks by Plush with the Dany platforms by Jessica Simpson. Then, she threw shorts, color, and stripes in the mix to make the look pop even more. The clothes — a gray jacket and red striped shirt — are both from Forever 21, and infuse color into her look, balancing out the dark bottom half of her look in just the right way.

British blogger Kizzy-Kensa Maeckelberghe exemplifies how you can mix trendy items with basic wardrobe staples. We love how she took something so simple like a little black dress with a Peter Pan collar by Topshop, platforms, and delicate necklaces and transformed her look into a stylish, multifunctional outfit just by adding thigh-high tights. The only place she added color was her accessories, with a leopard print tote, a perfect addition that brings the look together.

We're not sure if Stolen From Grandma blogger Claire McManus really did steal her outfit from her grandma, but her grandmother has amazing style if she did. This Australian blogger demonstrates a great way to wear prints with knee-highs, by pairing a floral dress with neutral hues with black knee-high socks, creating the epitome of a back-to-school fall look. The rest of the look is color-coordinated to-the-tee — brown loafer flats pull out the brown in her floral dress, as does her brown leather backpack satchel.
