As the sun burns brighter and pavement gets hotter, the last thing you want to think about is keeping your feet suffocated and bound in pounds of leather and heavy booties. But sometimes a strappy pair of stilettos leaves you looking a little too bare to complete certain ensembles. This week's installment of the Shoe Update features a clever lesson in how to keep your feet cool without sacrificing your outfit's silhouette brought to you by Kylie Minogue, Jessie J, and Holland Roden.
At this week's Billboard Music Awards, Kylie Minogue wore a gorgeous architectural three-quarter sleeve frock by Alexander McQueen. An amalgamation of the season's hottest trends, the dress was cut out and beaded and sequined to perfection, and most important, it was sheer. Given that she was already baring some subtle skin, a shoe that showed too much would just complicate things. Wisely, Kylie opted for some Christian Louboutin platform, fringe-tiered peep-toes with cutouts that mirrored the ones in her dress without being too matchy-poo. Jessie J wore a pair of suede cerulean booties with mesh panels at the Y 100 Underground—her tootsies could breathe but her sleeveless black jumpsuit remained uncompromised. And at the L.A. premiere of Teen Wolf, actress Holland Roden kept her feet ventilated donning these pearl-embellished peep-toe booties with uppers made up almost entirely of the daintiest white lace.
