It's perfectly OK to walk the red carpet in the nude. Well, in nude SHOES that is. A longtime stylist secret, neutral-shaded shoes are the go-to when you're wearing a dress in a CRAY color that is difficult to pair with complementary pumps (hi, acid orange), or when you're wearing something equally neutral like white. Not only do they keep the eye focused upward on the amazing outfit you're wearing, they elongate the leg in the most beautiful way. Ciara, Amber Heard, and Kristin Cavallari all wore nude shoes in varying shades and heights to illustrate this trend on the red carpet; in fact, SHOE NUDITY was everywhere in Tinseltown this week. We think this trend might have, ahem, legs.
At a party celebrating Charlize Theron's Africa Outreach Project (a wonderful cause FYI), Ciara wore a ruffle-fronted pink blouse and matching skintight skirt by Valentino. Her classic pumps were of the Christian Louboutin variety (naturally) and illustrate that light pinks and purples pair nicely with nude shoes, as these shades are often difficult to match accessory-wise. Amber Heard also chose Louboutins but opted for the platform version to tip out her GORGEOUS red Elie Saab gown. With a va-va-va-VOOM dress like this, you don't want anything distracting from the saturated color, clean lines, or leg peeking out of a dramatic slit. K-Cav attended her own party celebrating her recent appointment as the Web Ambassador for Chinese Laundry wearing a simple cream mini dress and neutral hair and makeup. She opted for a darker nude Chinese Laundry platform to finish her ensemble, and it works!
Any way you wear them, any shade or height, neutral shoes go with just about ANY ensemble for either day or night. There's no reason why you can't pair tan ballet flats with a kicky skirt and blouse, or rock some pale patent oxfords with patterned pants and a sweater. We don't think we've ever fully endorsed this statement before, but we say when in doubt, GO NUDE.
