Austin-based music, film, and interactive festival SXSW came to a close yesterday, and as expected, music's fashionistas turned it out (and up!) onstage. From Santigold's multiple outfit changes to the colorful stylings of Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino and Theophilus London, performance wear was varied, for sure. But that didn't mean staples were cast out entirely! Kat Graham, Kreayshawn, and Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells repped hard for the universally recognized concert wear uniform: cutoff shorts.
With the resurgence of the '90s in full swing, frayed-out denim is a go-to for every bad girl (see Rihanna). Kat wore hers super light wash with the top rolled down for extra tightness. Paired with a structured black bralette/crop top, plaid shirt tied around the waist, and super high pony, Graham's look is very Blond Ambition meets Nevermind. Baby Kreay employs a similar style modus operandi here with her über-distressed denim cutoffs splattered with a hint of bleach. Kreay wears her jorts with a knotted up sleeveless top in neon yellow and white stripes for a punchy summery look. Alexis Krauss' black denim cutoffs are covered in abstract burnt orange paint-like stripes of pigment. She wore these with fishnet stockings, a graphic tee—tucked in to show off her metallic skinny belt—and topped it all off with a studded leather moto jacket. Which SXSW cutoff outfit do you like best?
