Solange Knowles wears yellow to dress down, dress WAY up, or have a night on the town.
We all know Solange Knowles is one of the sharpest dressers around, we do. We all know she can pull off anything--from orange lips to '70s steeze and everything in between, the woman is beautiful and fashionably fearless. So when we saw her at the Met Gala on Monday in that ridic canary yellow peplum Rachel Roy gown, we were floored, but not surprised. However, as we mulled over the dress in our daydreams this week, we remembered something: the gala was not the first time we saw Solange in that particular shade of yellow (or at least very close to it). A two second search revealed that the stylish singer is the queen of all things lemon yellow, and we started taking notes on the way she wore and accessorized the sunny hue.
Last night, Solange took to her brother-in-law Jay Z's D'usse Cognac launch party in a yellow blazer over a white, low necked top and black pencil skirt. Although the colors were basic, the combination of the black, white, and yellow really popped, especially with a thick swipe of a truly cherry red lipstick and that Diana Ross hairdo that Solange was also sporting at the Met Gala. Whenever we wear yellow and black together we get worried about looking like a bumblebee, but this outfit proves that (at least when Solange does it) our fears are for naught.
We keep coming back to the Met Gala because THAT DRESS. From the slim silhouette to the not-too-big-not-too-small peplum to that train that flows like water and of course the color, Rachel Roy's design fit Solange beyond perfectly. Paired with a light pink lip and jewelry that's architectural, modern, and gorgeous, this is a case where the dress is perfect on the girl, not just on its own.
And finally, Solange took her favorite color out to a DJ gig at the launch of Tiffany & Co.'s True Love in Pictures. This is a look that's significantly more laid back and fun than the others--although you might not be going out to a Tiffany party, you could def wear this little neon number out for a date with the girls--and Solange's minimal makeup and super fun, bright pink clutch are the perfect accompaniment.
What do you think of bright yellow? Is it one of your go-to colors or do you prefer to stay clear of the bumblebee zone?
