Azealia Banks on the cover of the June issue of 'Jalouse.'

We know this is the understatement of the year, but we're throwing it out there anyway: Azealia Banks is BUSY. In addition to dropping her second EP 1991 earlier this week and gearing up to release her FANTASEA (formerly dubbed Fantastic) mixtape in July, today is her 21st birthday! She tweeted this morning, "Plus I'm 21 now! I'm grown! I can do whatever I want!" In her case, this means dropping the brand new Mermaid Ball Mixtape onto the world, which you can listen to (over and over again) here. Plus, she also announced today that she's gracing the newest cover of Jalouse for the French mag's Music Issue. Azealia, don't you know that on your birthday you're supposed to be receiving gifts, not giving them? Either way, we're not complaining... because obviously the more Azealia Banks, the better.
Banks shares the cover star honors with fellow Harlem face A$AP Rocky, who scored his own separate cover to celebrate what Jalouse calls “two sizes of fashion and music.” And judging from the quintessential All-American style Banks flaunts in the publication, she's doing just that. Sporting a red and black sailor stripe cardigan, a denim vest, black shorts and printed heels, the cover look is a more toned-down version of the over-the-top dresser, who we're now used to seeing in cat makeup, Alexander Wang party dresses, and retro-fabulous platform boots.
Maybe it's the comfy sweater, shorts, or her trademark fresh-faced grin, but the cover instantly makes us think of "212," otherwise known as the video that started IT ALL. It's hard to believe that it's been only 8 months since the track first landed on YouTube, considering how much awesomeness the now-21-year-old has brought us since then. Cheers to that!
