Summer might be all about sundresses and shorts on the surface, but take another look and you'll see there's another seasonal staple that many people forget: the summer suit. Sure, it might SOUND stuffy, but take it from Rita Ora, Sunday Girl, and St. Vincent as proof that the office uniform can still totally work after 5 pm...just with a few key changes. We've already told you how Rita Ora's been wearing monochromes like none other recently, and we're still in love with the white-hot Hussein Chalayan number she wore all the way back in February. The tuxedo-style suit shows that unlike shoulder pads and big hair, this is ONE '80s trend we can get down with.
One of our most recent music crushes is Jade Williams, aka emerging British singer Sunday Girl (check out her single "Love U More" and you'll fall in love with her too). After scoring fashion cred from glossies like VOGUE UK and Harper's Bazaar for her quirky-cute style, there's no question the 24-year-old is officially one to watch. Earlier this week she stepped out in London wearing a powder blue suit, a printed blouse, and heels. Normally dressing too matchy-matchy is a bad thing, but Jade definitely makes the complementary colors and patterns work for her with mussed-up hair, nude lips, and serious confidence. Also repping head-to-toe coolness this week was indie musician St. Vincent (real name: Annie Clark), who wore a studded Vena Cava suit to a party for the designers in Los Angeles. She kept things simple with her signature curly hair, strappy black heels, and a matching black clutch for a no-brainer look that's the perfect transition from late summer to fall.
Who do you think pulled off the solid suit best? And, more importantly, would you test drive this trend yourself?
