Ariel Winter, Elizabeth Moss, and Ginnifer Goodwin at the 2012 Emmy Awards.
Fall may have officially begun this weekend, but flowers are still blooming all over this year's Emmy Awards red carpet. The the bright pops of color we saw blooming on Ginnifer Goodwin, Elizabeth Moss, and Ariel Winter's gowns were right at home in the beaming California sun. The dresses on these three ladies were like a masterclass in the versatility of florals--from abstract, nearly watercolor renderings, to more classic patterns, to botanically-inspired embroidery--proving that tried-and-true textile trends can always benefit from experimentation and reinterpretation.
Modern Family's Ariel Winter not only killed the delicate balance that young actresses must maintain to pick a dress that's both age appropriate and elegant, but she also showed us one of the freshest interpretations on classic, feminine florals that we've seen in a long time with this custom Katherine Kidd gown. The ultra girly white, black, blue, and pink pattern had a geometric edge, but was undeniably flowery, shimmering with sequins from its racer back and high neckline all the way down its flowing high-low train. Ariel paired the gown with a simple bun, sweet pink lips and smokey eyes for a look that was absolute perfection for her 14 years. Magnificent!
On the darker, more classic end of the spectrum, Mad Men beauty Elizabeth Moss also went for a high-low hem on her black, cream and green floral Dolce & Gabbana gown. The strapless gown hugged her curves with a a gathered bodice and sweetheart neckline, balancing out the innocence of the pattern--which reminded us of an English garden--with just enough of that va-va-voom factor. She styled her short, bright blonde hair with a deep side part and kept her makeup simple and neutral, with pink lips and understated eye makeup.
Finally, Ginnifer Goodwin was on fire in her nude and orange Monique Lhuillier gown, matching Louboutins, and Ferragamo bag. The amazingly textured frock looked almost like the flowers, leaves and vines had grown onto it, with organic lines and thick, totally-tempting-to-touch depth. Ginnifer's timeless black bob was the perfect complement to the ultra-elegant look, an thick, jet black eyeliner and a nude lip allowed her natural beauty to shine while also making sure the dress stayed at center stage.
