Nikki Reed has played a troubled highschooler in Thirteen, a rebellious California girl in Lords of Dogtown, and an adopted Cullen in Twilight. But a '50s housewife? Mmmm, not so much... until now, that is. She may prefer to sport sleek column dresses and modern-looking metallics on the red carpet, but the writer-actress flexes her dramatic muscles even further in the November/December issue of ZOOEY magazine, channeling her inner Stepford wife in prim collars, pretty prints, and even leather driving gloves. The cover might be simple with its teal background and lack of splashy headlines, but as Lena Dunham's recent iD cameo proves, this straightforwardness (and Nikki's gorgeous glance) is exactly what makes this shot SO compelling.

The 24-year-old trades the sleek low ponytail she sports on the cover for long, loose waves inside the mag, where she's lying sprawled on the floor with a vintage landline phone (remember those?!) dressed in a pink floral frock. Although the proper look is a far cry from the clothes we've been seeing from Nikki (who can forget the laceup vests in Thirteen?!), she manages to give even the most past-perfect outfits a current touch. We're chalking this undeniable freshness up to her easy makeup— because let's be real, black eyeliner, groomed brows, and natural balmy lips never go out of style.
