Between that infamous Madonna cone bra, the man-skirts, and last season's rockstar-inspired collection, Jean-Paul Gaultier has already crafted enough runway creations to inspire a lifetime of rad outfits. So what's the next obvious step for that Parisian designer? Taking his ridiculously awesome style to the (daring) masses with streetwear, obviously. JPG has just announced that he's working on a men's and women's collection with Italian company Ittierre SpA, targeting younger consumer AND a more affordable price point. Um yes, please!
He's signed a five-year contract and will kick things off with his inaugural collection for Autumn/Winter 2013-14. Since it's so far away (sigh) details on the actual clothes are few and far between. However, we hear that you can expect Gaultier's trademark bold touches- think plaid, lots of leather, and menswear-inspired pieces. And considering this will be the designer's fourth diffusion line, his latest project proves that there's really no such thing as too much JPG. But since he's focused specifically on streetwear this time around AND a cool customer, here's hoping our favorite bold dressers takes note (Miley, Iggy, and Rihanna, we're looking at you!). As for the rest of us, is it too early to start planning our wardrobe for 2013...?
