Humberto Leon and Mike D.
Looks like Kenzo has another musical collaboration to add to its historical arsenal, this time thanks to Beastie Boys' Mike D. Humberto Leon and Carol Lim enlisted the Beastie to produce an exclusive track for the legendary fashion house's Men's Spring/Summer 2014 show, following in a line of other major name curators who have lent a hand (and ear) to soundtracking Kenzo shows. (Think Jamie XX and M.I.A.) While we'd like to think that Kenzo also has Brooklyn on the brain lately with the selection of Mike D, the collection that this track, titled "Humberto Vs. The New Reactionaries. Christine and the Queens Remixx by Mike D," was created for was actually inspired by California.
Kenzo's blog interviewed Mike D about his exclusive work for the label, revealing his own inspiration for the music, "Talking to Humberto, I wanted to honor what he was inspired by: American hardcore like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks but then I wanted to update it, or maybe couldn't help but to update it." He elaborates on how he was linked up with Humberto and Carol (via Spike Jonze!), his creative method, and his own style (both in music and fashion). Read the full interview for yourself at Kenzo.com!
