We are less than a week away from the release of The Electric Lady, Janelle Monáe's hotly-anticipated, high-concept, genre-bending followup to 2010's The ArchAndroid, ya dig? Since she t-t-t-tipped on our radar with her crisp monochrome suits, slick-shining saddle shoes and a pompadour beehive (no doubt filled with secrets of futuristic fanaticism), we've been dying to see what the COVERGIRL's android alter-ego has planned for the fate of the citizens of Metropolis (and have desperately been trying to find a way to incorporate dainty bow ties into our wardrobe—alas, it's not as easy as she makes it look).
On top of her monumental album release, Monae's about to have a(nother) major moment, and you don't want to miss it. Before she starts us down the new fall music rabbit hole, Janelle's going to get us geared up for New York Fashion Week—which (obvi) makes total sense, because the woman stuns in sleek lines on both the masculine and the feminine sides. On Friday at Lincoln Center (as a part of "American Express Unstaged"), models showing Rebecca Minkoff's Spring 2014 collection will t-t-t-tip on the catwalk (it had to be done) to a live-singing, live-streaming performance by Monae. The musician and the designer will also be sharing behind-the-scenes prep shots on Instagram with a backstage camera and live photo feed—giving fans at home unprecedented instant access. And considering how crowded the real-life shows can get, computer-bound viewers might just end up with the best seat in the house.
P.S. If you're the kind of person who likes to open their presents before Christmas morning, our friends at VH1 are exclusively streaming The Electric Lady in its entirety and we've conveniently made it available below! (You're welcome.)
