Rihanna may be the leading advocate for "red carpet goth,” but her peer Lorde is hot on her heels, owning it all awards season long. Remember her dip-dyed fingers at the Grammys? Well, Lorde's look was even darker today at the Brit Awards where she wore a vampy broken disco ball of a floor-length Tom Ford gown. Ella took the black sparkly creation up one notch on the goth scale with the addition of the trusty brick-soled platform boots she’s stepped out wearing many times before and her signature deep purple lipstick. With the exception of her pout, her beauty look was all about her hair—much like her V cover and, you know, always.
If you recognize Lorde’s dress, that’s because Beyonce first wore it (or at least a shorter version of it) back in December. Though, pairing her mini with thigh-high boots, Bey’s take was decidedly less goth. Still, it’s pretty cool that two of our favorite ladies have found ways to put their own, very different, stamps on such a gorgeous dress.
And if you're surprised to see Lorde in sparkles, don't be. It makes total sense that Lorde would wear a more glamorous frock to the Brit Awards, considering her set was more dance-y than experimental. Backed by the UK house duo Disclosure, Lorde delivered a glossy rendition of “Royals” which bled into AlunaGeorge performing their standout single “White Noise.”
We're just left with one question: Who's got next on the dress?
