Daft Punk might have just perfected the band merch rollout. Of course, the robotic French duo know a thing or two about promoting: their Grammy-winning Album of the Year Random Access Memories was as memorable for its billboards, editorial spreads, and Saint Laurent suits as it was for “Get Lucky,” the Pharrell Williams-assisted track we’re still hearing everywhere—at the grocery store, mall, you name it. For their new merch, Daft Punk continued with their album’s theme of late '70s glamour and commissioned some very throwback ads.
Just look at the one for the Daft Punk belt buckle that looks like it could be an outtake from a '70s Wrangler ad thanks to those high-waisted jeans—definitely not your average band merch.
Daft Punk went with a more disco vibe for their super cool “Get Lucky” tank top ad, which they could have easily sold as a poster..
Sadly, the duo’s BFF Hedi Slimane didn’t lend his design skills to the merch. We could have really used some custom Daft Punk x Saint Laurent gear of our own. Here’s hoping for next time.
