Tavi Wren

We don't know how you spent your weekend, but a perfect one would involve frolicking in '60s-infused dresses, an impromptu acoustic guitar jam sesh, and lady makeup galore. Add girl-crush-hero and Rookie mag editor Tavi Gevinson to the mix, and you're talking dream weekend territory here. Interestingly enough, this is not a daydream but a reality, and one that was chronicled in its entirety this weekend via the magic of Twitter and Instagram. Orchestrated for the elegantly laid-back LA clothing line Wren (one of our faves!), the directing duo of Maximilla Lukacs and Sarah Sophie Flicker—otherwise known as The Belles of the Black Diamond Field—shot Tavi for an upcoming fashion film for the label, and they captured her in MUSIC MODE with guitar in hand, her hair coiffed to sophisticated perfection. You might remember Miss Gevinson's recent musical foray in the animated short film "Cadaver", in which she sang a tender and beautiful rendition of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". Will she be singing something for Wren? Also, what is this film all about? We spoke to Sarah Sophie Flicker about all of the girl power goings-on...

Remember that time we told you how much we wished we were basking in the BBQ pit-lit glow of taco-infused musical mecca fantasticness better known as the SXSW music festival? Yeah, we're still dreaming about hitching a ride on a magic carpet to capture those last moments left of the fest this weekend. Alas, we have more SXSW style shenanigans to make us feel like we're actually there, including some sparkle motion courtesy of Gossip's Beth Ditto, modern minimalism from electro high priestess Zola Jesus, and the cutest in sailor romper wear from Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino. Did we mention there's a shirtless appearance by Lil Wayne?

Jennifer Lopez on the April cover of 'Vogue'.
Photo: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott/VOGUE

Easily one of the most recognized women on the planet, Jennifer Lopez is having a fashion moment. Yes, she's had MANY throughout her decades-long music and film career. Who can ever forget that history-making cut-down-to-there Grammy dress? YOWZA. But now that she's captured a nation's heart as one of American Idol's most beloved judges, there's even more rabid attention being made about each outfit she wears on the show. (And she turns it OUT night after night waltzing to her seat in an array of peacock color ensembles and to-die-for heels.) Thus, it's no surprise to see her on the coveted April cover of Vogue magazine stunning our eye sockets in red. Seriously, though, our eyes are popping out of our heads with this shoot.

santigold sxsw 2012

Santigold backstage and performing at the Fader Fort for SXSW 2012 in Austin, TX.

At exactly this time every year, an incredibly loud music and fashion spectacular of creative bacchanalia proportions takes place in Austin, Texas. You might have heard of it… a little festival called SXSW? Yeah, we're pretty miffed we're not there right now, too. *sighs flicks hair* While SOME of the MTV Style crew is there whooping it up at outdoor shows, tacos held happily aloft in hands, the rest of us are here to watch from afar. And if there's any one artist kicking it out with fashionably loud style thus far (and enough for us to feel somewhat satiated by her mere photographic presence alone), it's Santigold. Not only does Santi rock both her street and performance style with equally ferocious aplomb, she isn't afraid to change it up repeatedly throughout the course of a day.

Though we know her as the sprightly Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga, actress Ashley Greene has branched out from the cinematic world of vampires and into the fashion spotlight as the face of DKNY. Always a red carpet fave, her latest acting endeavor takes her sartorial prowess a step further, as she's set to play a young fashion designer in the upcoming TV show Americana. Though strictly in pilot mode at the moment, and not yet confirmed as to whether or not it will make it onto the air permanently, we can at least bask in street-style shots of her on location in New York wearing super cute threads—namely this Topshop Daisy Dogs Shirtdress ($96).

nicki minaj pink bikini starships

Nicki Minaj in Hawaii filming a music video for "Starships."
Photo: Splash News

Who is the queen of hyper-color hair? Easy, Nicki Minaj, of course! Willing to go the extra mile (light-year?) on the red carpet, in music videos, for performances, and at awards shows, Miss Minaj always goes for it where both her hair and whimsical ensembles are concerned. In the last few months alone, she's gone bright pink and curly for Allure (not to mention rag-doll Marie Antoinette in the fashion department), leprechaun green for Paper, and switched from a purple to a neon green wig all during the same NBA All-Star performance. Gurl loves to switch up her hair game, and for that we bow to her. But what's this latest hurrr-incarnation? Miss M was photographed on a Hawaiian beach in looooong, flat-ironed neon green hair AND a hot pink bikini. What's going on here?

st. patrick's day accessories

Yes, folks, it's time for yet another holiday requiring suitable clothing in which to celebrate. We're talking about Saint Patrick's Day, of course, and the necessity of even the tiniest smidgen of GREEN upon our person. Is that deliriously jovial pipe music and distant banshee wailing we hear? Yeahhh, we HEAR YA. Perhaps there are some of you who go for the full-on regalia of furry leprechaun hat, green dress, tights, shoes, and a version of literal or metaphorical brewski glasses, but there are also some of us who prefer little to no shamrock shenanigans. That's not to say that we're total grouches about the Irish holiday, it's just that A) some of us are quiet, and B) the rest of us don’t really go for an all-over kelly or forest or even neon green type of fashion affair. Thus, what are we to do about celebrating in style aside from tying green string around our wrists to avoid a day full of prods and pinches? ACCESSORIZE. In GREEN. No worries, we've got ya covered. (But not in Astroturf.)

January Jones at the "Mad Men" event at PaleyFest in Los Angeles.
Photo: Getty Images

Fans of the hit 1960s TV show Mad Men love to hate on the complex character of Betty Draper, played by January Jones. She's a blonde glamazon with the slightest bit of a mean streak on the show, but IRL the only streak Miss Jones sports is of the cotton candy variety. Hitting the red carpet at PaleyFest in L.A. to celebrate the return of the show, JJ dazzled in a light blue beaded Jenny Packham dress and quite a few subtle strands of pink...

Avril Lavigne and Taylor Momsen at the launch of Abbey Dawn by Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles.

Avril Lavigne is a busy young entrepreneur. Aside from maintaining a successful singing career, she designs her own Abbey Dawn line, which made its New York Fashion Week debut last September. Oh, and she has a "magical" fragrance line and super cool Sally Hansen nail strip collection too, just in case you wanna tip yourself out in sk8er boy flavas or checkerboard digits. Since her NYFW show, which featured Kylie Jenner on the runway, fans have been eagerly anticipating her line of skull T-shirts, watermelon slice dresses, and stars-n-stripes pullovers, which are finally available. To celebrate the launch, Miss Lavigne gathered her closest pals, including mega-leatha'd Taylor Momsen, to a soiree at the Viper Room—a fitting location for a rock and roll style 'splosion.

emo graffiti

Emo graffiti.

According to a new report from the Washington Post, there's panic among Iraqi youth after people have been threatened and killed as a result of dressing in an emo style. It all stems from a recent Facebook posting of a young Iraqi man dressed in a white blazer with aviator sunglasses and coiffed black hair who was allegedly beaten to death. An Iraqi woman who refused to be identified for fear of retaliation, said his name was Saif Raad and that he was a student of hers. "I think he was killed because of the way he was dressed," she said.

Even though the skinny jeans/coiffed black hair emo look has been popular in the West for quite some time, it is somewhat new to the Middle East, a predominantly conservative part of the world. Lists have been drawn up with names of people threatened with death unless they change their adopted look. Iraqi clerics and police officials have even deemed the look satanic and a threat to society. Many young people have either cut their hair or remained in their homes for fear that they will be targeted. "If we were a normal country, this would be a normal style," said a recent Iraqi college graduate, "but in Iraq, we have these crazy militias who make an excuse to kill people."
