In their new documentary, Garage Magazine explores one of the most vehemently debated, scorned, and defended elements of the current fashion industry: street style. From photographers to bloggers, those involved in street style have come under scrutiny from fashion's old guard as of late, and "Take My Picture" aims to explore and explain some of the reasons why. Whether you're a blogger, an editor, a photographer or a fashion fan, you've probably caught some of the vibes coming from both sides. There was much chatter amongst both bloggers and editors alike when Suzy Menkes published a piece called "The Circus of Fashion" in The New York Times' T Magazine, right smack in the middle of Fashion Month, and "Take My Picture" has set tempers flaring again. Going through the history of street style and, really, fashion in general, the team at Garage starts from the beginning, in the 80's, when nobody cared what was going on backstage. Legendary fashion journalist and Style.com editor-at-large Tim Blanks cites the birth of the supermodel as the beginning of the age of the peacock, citing the fact that Hollywood glamour was waning and fashion glamour was taking its place. Unlike much of the debate thus far, particularly Suzy Menkes piece, the documentary shows many sides of the debate, from Susie Bubble's thought that editors turning up their noses at people who want to be photographed as "elitist," to Tommy Ton's mourning the days when he was one of few photographers in Paris' Tuileries Gardens during fashion week.

Lady Gaga Wheelchair

Lady Gaga's gold wheelchair in New York City.
Photo: Terry's Diary

Lady Gaga
sightings have been scarce since the singer cancelled her tour due to a painful case of synovitis, an inflammation of the joints, and a torn labrum in her hip. We were worried for Mama Monster, but after hearing of her upcoming wedding yesterday, our worry changed to happiness. We're still relieved, however, to see the singer out and about in New York City, photographed by her bud Terry Richardson. Gaga looks her usual glamorous self, although she certainly doesn't look excited to be confined to a wheelchair. What a fabulous wheelchair it is, though. We assumed that Gags wouldn't be caught dead in a regular, hospital issue chair, but even we're a little surprised by how lux her medical device turned accessory is. Crafted out of tufted leather and bright yellow gold, the wheelchair is like something we imagine a little king being confined to in old time-y England (think Colin Craven in The Secret Garden, we're partial to the Francis Ford Coppola version from the 90's, ourselves). Only the best for the queen of the Little Monsters, am I right? UPDATE: We've received an exclusive scoop from the chair's designer, Ken Borochov, that he was commissioned specifically by Lady Gaga herself to design the wheelchair. Ken is the creative force behind MORDEKAI, and has designed pieces for Mama Monster in the past, but nonetheless, he was still surprised to get the call. "I certainly wasn't expecting that phone call and have never done a wheelchair but am always up for a challenge and was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen," Ken said in an official statement. Get all the deets on the Chariot, and Gaga's accompanying look, after the jump!

Taylor Swift in her Diet Coke commercial.
Photo: Entertainment Tonight/Diet Coke

We never thought we would hear Taylor Swift talking about aging gracefully, or at least not yet. But that's exactly what she talks about in Entertainment Tonight's behind the scenes interview on the set of her brand new Diet Coke commercial. She's not talking about wearing long sleeves and remembering to moisturize your neck, however. Taylor is talking about her personal style. We've actually been wondering, as of late, if Taylor has been taking more fashion risks, and it seems that she has, but for no reason other than the fact that she's a grown up lady now, and such things are appropriate. "In my life I've just tried to be the age that I am," Swift says, "so being 23, it's fun to play with your style, it's fun to kind of edge it up once in awhile." She goes on to joke about people saying she's being edgy by wearing shorts for a performance, laughing, "I'm wearing more clothes than anyone here!" We get it though, Tay, you want to try new looks, see what works (which could pretty much be the definition of being in your early 20s). Her new Diet Coke commercials show her playing around just that way, dressed up in everything from a red ball gown to a super tight, silver mini dress, with every other look along the way. We can't wait to see the full commercial, but in the meantime, watch the behind the scenes video after the jump!

Demi Lovato at the Los Angeles Topshop grand opening.
Photo: Getty

We're not big conspiracy theorists around here. I mean, we love a good mystery, but we're not pinning newspaper clippings to bulletin boards or wearing t-shirts that say "The Truth is Out There," or anything. We do, however, love to sniff out a scoop, and so when we see something happening with one of our favorite girls that just seems too calculated to be a coincidence, we put on our Sherlock Holmes hat and go looking for answers. We first started noticing that Demi Lovato was fond of Topshop when we identified her X-Factor look as being entirely available for purchase from the retailer. Obviously we thought that was AWESOME, and didn't really think that much more of it, until we started to realize that it wasn't just a one time thing: ALL of Demi's X-Factor looks were from Topshop. Seems like it has to be more than just a coincidence right? I mean, we totally tend to buy large quantities of our wardrobes from the same places, but we know how much designers must want to be showcased on the carpet by a star like Demi. We've been sniffing around this story for months as a result, and FINALLY caught a break, or rather, The New York Times caught it for us (thanks, y'all!). Turns out, Demi's stylist Soulmaz Vosough is also Topshop's global head of personal shopping, which sounds like a pretty fancy title, if you ask us. So, how did Demi get the ultimate insider hook up? We've got the deets for you after the jump!

What makes the 10-Year Hoodie so special.
Photo: Flint And Tinder USA

"Buy less, but get more." Sounds great, right? But when you think about the way that a lot of us shop these days, not a whole lot of people are adhering to that way of thinking these days. Jake Bronstein, founder of Flint And Tinder USA, is trying to change the way that many people think about clothing, and it turns out, people are REALLY listening. Jake started a Kickstarter campaign to raise awareness about "planned obsolescence," and to sell the product that he created to fight it, called "The 10-Year Hoodie." So, first off, what's planned obsolescence? Think about it from the point of view of a manufacturer: if you make a product that lasts a person forever, or that lasts them a really long time even, they're probably not going to come back and buy another one before their first one has worn out. So instead of making products that last a really, really long time, which wouldn't be all that hard, manufacturers intentionally leave some things a little undone, making the product wear out faster. Of course every piece of clothing wears out on its own and you can't expect it to last forever, but intentionally giving items an expiration date so consumers are forced to come back and buy more? Kinda shady. Flint And Tinder decided to start with something super basic and pretty unglamorous, the zip-up hoodie, and make it last 10-years, at least. But not only is the sweatshirt really well made and without any intentional shortcomings, it comes with free mending, so if it shouldn't last the promised 10 years, the company will fix it for you. Pretty cool, right? Even cooler is the fact that Flint and Tinder started their campaign on Kickstarter, and within hours had met their funding goal. Now, with 41 days still left on the campaign, they've raised $304,893. Crazy, huh?

Emma Watson and her castmates shooting The Bling Ring.
Photo: Splash

Emma Watson makes an excellent ringleader. I don't know about in real life, but in the movies at least, our girl Emma excels at playing characters with that electric combination of gumption and sweetness that makes her both the best friend and the girl everyone falls in love with. This seems to be the case for her character in the Sofia Coppola-directed Hollywood heist movie The Bling Ring, which comes out June 14th, although we suspect she might be coming up a touch short with regards to the sweetness part. In the film, Emma plays the ringleader of a group of teenagers who are running around the more tony parts of Los Angeles ransacking celebrities homes, like adolescent cat burglars caught on high-end security cameras. This might sound a lot like another teens-turned-to-crime film that's been on our minds lately, but unlike that other movie, The Bling Ring is based on a true story, and one that happened not too long ago. In the teaser, which opens with one of the girls smilingly suggesting, "let's go shopping," shows the kids pillaging a fancy closet of its coats, jewels, and lacy underthings, and then going on to do all kinds of wreckless bad kid stuff, from dirty dancing in the club to wearing sunglasses inside. There's also the suggestion of some REALLY bad stuff, with guns and tears and police, but the trailer doesn't give much away. Don't take our word for it, though, watch after the jump!

Ioanna Gika for House Of Holland Eyewear.
Photo: Courtesy of IO Echo

Ugh, don't you sometimes, or maybe always, secretly wish you were a rock star? While we gave up on any dreams of actually winning Grammys or playing to sold out, screaming crowds years ago (*sigh*) we still sometimes get that pang of jealousy when we see one of our fave lady musicians doing something particularly fabulous. That's exactly how we felt when we saw that the awesome Ioanna Gika, front woman for Los Angeles shoegaze-pop outfit IO Echo and Jeremy Scott hologram kimono enthusiast, had taken on the task of filling Iggy Azaleas very big shoes as the face of House Of Holland eyewear. While Iggy's campaign was all about color, Ioanna's brings a little bit more atmosphere to the table, with the singer posing in a kind of 70's kitsch backdrop, her hair crimped into a big triangle that we're sure roller girl would approve of. Obviously she wears a kimono in the shoot, as well.

Rihanna's River Island co-designer Adam Selman at the Opening Ceremony RIHtrospective and a look he designed for Rihanna.
Photo: Getty

We're (obviously) HUGE fans of the magical music and fashion machine, but isn't it fun to peek behind the curtain every once in awhile? Rihanna for River Island is by far one of the years most anticipated celebrity design collaborations, and we were beyond excited to have a chance to chat with Rihanna's co-designer Adam Selman at the US launch of the line, and the corresponding "RIHtrospective," at Opening Ceremony. Not only did Selman help Rihanna with her River Island line, but he also designed and fabricated five of the seven looks on display. From Rihanna's pink lace Victoria's Secret Fashion show look to her white 2012 VMA dress (more on that in the video), there's no doubt that you'll recognize some of the looks in the RIHtrospective. When we dragged Adam down to the basement of Opening Ceremony during the lively launch event for both the retrospective and the collection, he answered all of our burning questions with a smile on his face and an expertise that made it totally obvious why he's Rihanna's go-to guy for all things fashion, along with her long-time stylist Mel Ottenberg. He ALSO gave us a couple of scoops about whether we can expect to see more Rihanna For River Island (!!!!), what it's like to work for Rihanna (think: Unicorns), and what his fave pieces of her wardrobe are. Watch the full video after the jump!

Rihanna at the launch of her River Island collection in London.
Photo: Getty

Amidst all of the excitement, the runway show and the campaign and all of that, we kind of forgot that the day was fast approaching that we would actually be able to BUY Rihanna's River Island collection for ourselves very soon. The collection is available in the US via Opening Ceremony today, but it also had its launch in the UK last night. Rihanna was in attendance at the London opening, rocking, of course, some choice cuts from her own collection. One of the most showstopping (and for some, eyebrow raising) pieces from the collection are the double denim overalls, which break down your traditional Osh Kosh classics to include crop top and a pair of jeans with a double waistband. Don't get what the heck we're saying, well Ri wore the non-traditional togs to her store opening last night, and we have to say she looks killer in them. Conjuring up some serious Aaliyah vibes, that's for sure. Rihanna styled the jeans not with the matching crop top but with a relaxed, cropped white tea and perfect dark purple lipstick. We're loving how her super glam, long hair adds some elegance to the otherwise street wear-leaning look.

Taylor Swift on the April issue of Vanity Fair.
Photo: Vanity Fair

Has the time come for Taylor Swift to stop playing dress up and start acting serious? While we never thought our Swifty would give up her girly girl, magic fairyland ways, her recent Vanity Fair cover has us thinking that maybe there are more mature days to come for the pop-country mega star. Maybe it all started when she began wearing pants on the regular, or when she did that sultry quick-change at the Brit awards, but there's a change afoot for our girl. Taylor graces the April issue of Vanity Fair, and the tight, windswept portrait seems to usher in this new age of her girlhood. Taylor poses with minimal makeup, maybe a little highlighter to make her deep blue eyes pop, her hair a mess, in an ornate jeweled dress and matching wrap, her hands draped over an acoustic guitar. This is one we can't wait to see fashion credits for, also, not because of the dress, which is beautiful, but because of Taylor's A+ ring game. Two cuff rings and an incredible sapphire grace the singers fingers, and we desperately want to know where she (or the shoot's stylist, more likely) acquired them. Forget about boys and gossip, tell us about the stuff!
