All due respect to "Time After Time," but the typical high school dance playlist has us feeling a little sleepy. DJing is a serious business, particularly for a night as highly anticipated as prom. You want to set the right balance between songs people like to dance to with their friends, crowd favorites, and, of course, the obligatory slow dances. We set out to create a 10-track playlist to get you in the mood for prom, and maybe to inspire some DJ booth requests, as well. Listen to it while you're browsing websites looking for the perfect dress, while you're testing our that flawless celeb-inspired beauty look, or when you're packing up your prom survival kit before heading out to the dance. Even better, dance around your room to these songs in your PJ's and prom shoes—you want to make absolutely sure those bad boys are broken-in when it comes time to break it down on the dance floor.

One of the "It" songs of the year, Sky Ferreira's "Everything is Embarrassing" is a great ice-breaker. You're a little nervous to get out there on the floor and start just breaking it down, and you DEFINITELY don't want to start with a slow jam. Might as well just acknowledge the fact that you're feeling a little bashful, own it, and get on out there.

There are certainly some girls who know exactly what prom dress they're going to wear from the day they start high school. They know exactly what they want, and they seek it out. In the prom issue of ASOS magazine, Sarah Hyland talks about how she knew precisely which dress she wanted, and she ended up finding it, exactly, in the sale rack of a discount shop, the only one, in her size. For some girls, prom can be magic. On the flip side, though, there are some girls who aren't totally sure what look they're going for, let alone where to go looking for that specific dress. If you're feeling particularly stumped, a good place to start is to think back on some of your favorite red carpet looks. While it's probably a challenge to acquire the EXACT dress your favorite starlet wore on the carpet, those fancy frocks are often a VERY good jumping point. To get you going, we looked at signature looks from three of our red carpet faves for inspiration, and found three dresses that any girl could totally rock at prom for that red carpet vibe.

If you're not into the traditional prom dress, it's OK. Emma Watson isn't into traditional red carpet looks either, but she's figured out a consistently fabulous workaround. The trailblazing actress has been a Best Dressed staple for us for years, in particular for her love of short, form-fitting silhouettes in graphic prints. You just don't see much of that on the red carpet, and just like it stands out at an awards show, we're confident that it would also stand out on the dance floor at your prom. Luckily, there are a number of different ways you can wear Emma's signature style.

If you're looking to be a little spendy, we LOVE Nasty Gal's Lumeria dress ($300.00). The blue TIE-DYE frock features a body-hugging silhouette, asymmetrical (but not TOO asymmetrical) hemline, and a completely unique print that we adore. If you're comfortable going even more casual, Topshop's Floral Stripe Cut Out Dress ($84.00) is a practical option, since you can dress it up or down, and therefore, wear it night after night, not just at prom. Finally, for something in between, the Techno Sound Dress ($70.00), also from Nasty Gal, features a bold, versatile print, with splashes of metallic to really keep things interesting.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora's Elle Women In Music Issue cover.
Photo: Elle

Earlier this month, we showed you one of the interior shots of Rita Ora's Elle Women In Music issue spread, where she broke from the theme set by Adele's soft and sultry cover in a futuristic Maison Martin Margiela couture dress and black headpiece. Well, today we got our greedy Rita Ora-loving paws on not just one but TWO of the singer's covers, and they are amazing beyond our wildest dreams. The first cover, which is in color, features Rita looking like a bubblegum queen in a pale pink Chanel Haute Couture gown and matching Ken O'Rourke headpiece, her red lipstick and dark, strong brows making quite a statement (and are giving us serious beauty inspiration) against the stark gray background. Although her first cover is undoubtedly high, high fashion—you don't get much higher than Chanel, after all—there's a playfulness that we just can't help but note in the interplay between the ruffles across the neckline of the dress and the exaggerated, peony-shaped headpiece. We've also been following Ms. Rita for long enough to know that she's both playful and a risk-taker, so a stuffy cover just isn't in her nature.

We are SO excited for this year's Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum. The evening is one of our favorite red carpet nights of the entire year, and with this year's theme being punk, we're in heaven. Just imagine the gowns! While we're swimming through visions of pyramid spikes and creatively utilized safety pins, the exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, just keeps getting more and more amazing. Just today, runway-to-retail giant Moda Operandi announced that not only will it be sponsoring the exhibit, but M'O will also be creating an exclusive high fashion capsule collection based on the themes explored within it. Founder Lauren Santo Domingo told WWD that the collection will "offer women the opportunity to capture the spirit of punk with pieces that balance high fashion and rebellion."

A Still From Azealea Banks' "Yung Rapunxel".
Photo: Polydor Records

Having just watched Azealia Banks' new video for "Yung Rapunxel" about, oh I don't know, 300 times, I can tell you that the world feels a little intense. An obvious homage to Aaliyah's iconic "Are You That Somebody," the atmospheric, graphic clip is a logical next step for Azealia aesthetically. Why so obvious, you ask? The first shot depicts Azealia, her eyes two different colors, wearing a bandana, with a bird of prey flying out of her third eye. Now, Aaliyah was as much known for her bandanas as for her washboard abs, and hawks feature famously in "Are You That Somebody." Since the influence is so clear, it's a true case of looking back while moving forward—pushing the aesthetics originally introduced in that video through even more evocative images. And the clothes! Azealia is giving us some major 1999 flashbacks with her raver steez, and as traumatic as U.F.O. pants were for me (we don't speak of that again), Azealia is WORKING some classic late '90s looks.

Jourdan Dunn and Cara Delevingne make shrimp tempura on "Well Dunn With Jourdan Dunn".
Photo: Life & Times

We caught up with Jourdan Dunn on the eve of the premiere episode of her cooking show "Well Dunn With Jourdan Dunn" on Jay-Z's Life & Times, and she told us all about making jerk pork with rice and peas, as well as about some of her culinary inspirations and secrets. We'll, a whole season has passed and now "Well Dunn" is celebrating its very first episode of season 2! Jourdan is a seasoned cooking show host (heh) by now, and so it's only natural that she start bring in guests. Who better to serve as her sous chef than fellow model and real life bestie, the queen of the funny face, Cara Delevingne! We don't need to tell you how we feel about Cara, you already know that be absolutely love, love, love her.

Daft Punk shot by Hedi Slimane.
Photo: Dazed Digital

Many of us have been having summertime shimmying fantasies since the release of a new teaser for Daft Punk's new song "Get Lucky" with Pharrell and Nile Rodgers this weekend, and just today Dazed Digital posted two new images from Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent Paris musicians project. The photo series, which you may recall also features Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, and Ariel Pink, depicts musicians self-styled in new and iconic Saint Laurent looks. Like Kim Gordon, the robots of Daft Punk chose to go with perhaps the most iconic of Yves' creations: Le Smoking. The tuxedo jacket was originally designed as an androgynous alternative for an evening dress, making menswear oh-so-very-sexy for women, but overtime it has become such a classic example of exquisite tailoring that it's no longer entirely gender specific.

Carey Mulligan Vogue

Carey Mulligan is Vogue's May cover star.
Photo: Courtesy of Vogue

Heaven is a chartreuse velvet gown. On the May cover of Vogue magazine, The Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan gazes into the camera, her shoulders thrust forward and hand draped over her knee as if she's just asked you a question that she already knows the answer to. She's quite literally dripping in jewelry, but the real star of this cover snap is THAT DRESS. Thick, iridescent yellow-green velvet, draped at the neckline and fitted through the skirt, hugs Carey's body like it was sewn onto her. It's impossible, between the dress and her very jazz-age metallic cloche, not to immediately think of Daisy Buchanan in Gatsby, the lovestruck character Mulligan plays in her upcoming film. Her beauty look, however, is pointedly modern, with a matte, true red lip and a light dusting of blue-green across her eyelids.

Let's give a hearty round of applause to Rebel Wilson, everyone! Our fearless leader through the 2013 Movie Awards, Rebel wore the very heavy hosting hat with humor and grace, and literally made us laugh until our stomachs hurt. Not only did she come out of movie awards a stellar host, she also came out of the show a winner, taking home the golden popcorn in not just one but two categories, both for her role in Pitch Perfect. Rebel took home the Best Musical Moment award with her fellow cast mates AND the Breakthrough Performance award for her solo work in the film. Yay, Rebel! The show took a number of unexpected twists and turns, with our host throwing herself headfirst into some of our favorite movies AND getting into some...uh...compromising positions. All in all, Rebel wore a grand total of SEVEN outfits over the course of the show.

We found our host at the top of the show hangin' out in her native Australia, sharpening her boomerang (or something like that), with no idea she was about to be asked to host the Movie Awards. What does Rebel like to wear while chilling out in the outback? Hot pink sweatsuits with koala bears on them, apparently (but also, of course). She wore this same look in the first musical number of the show, a performance featuring her cast mates from Pitch Perfect.

Mary H.K. Choi and Karlie Kloss talkin' style on the 2013 MTV Movie Awards red carpet.
Photo: MTV

For our 2013 Movie Awards red carpet wrap-up, me and the indomitable Karlie Kloss froze our frickin’ faceholes off in the unseasonably brisk Los Angeles climate as we chatted about the hottest fashion moments. We’re pretty much in cahoots about who we liked best. We loved Chloe Moretz’s Louis Vuitton denim dress and Karlie’s runaway favorite was Zoe Saldana’s floral, embroidered Givenchy dress with a dramatic thigh slit. Karlie and I also adored Les Miz’s Eddie Redmayne in his distressed leather moto jacket as well as Selena Gomez’s gold Julien Macdonald that featured strands of delicate beads.
