Whitney Port's Disney Untold Treasures By Whitney Eve lookbook. Photo: Celebuzz
We really missed Whitney Port at New York Fall 2013 Fashion Week this past February. We look forward to her runway show each season, and when we found out that she wouldn't be showing, we had a major sadface moment. Our sadness was unwarranted, however, as Whitney was hard at work on a new collection without us even knowing. The designer teamed up with Disney for the Untold Treasures by Whitney Eve collection for Fall 2013, and now you can check out the lookbook. In a statement at the beginning of the lookbook, Whitney explains her inspiration for the collection, saying "ever since I was a child I have been enthralled by The Little Mermaid." Whitney goes on to explain that she was her prints were inspired by and based "in the mythical beauty and ethereal quality of Ariel, the picturesque aquatic scenes, and the dreamy depths of the sea" in the animated film. Whitney created a collection of bright, rich blues and greens, fluid shapes, and surprising textures that pulls us out of our spring fever and plunks us down into the luxurious feeling of fall, with a definite under the sea vibe happening throughout.
Morgan Saylor, Kiernan Shipka, and Sarah Hyland on the cover of ASOS Magazine. Photo: ASOS Magazine
Do they put something in the water now to make being a teenager less completely horrifying? It sure seems that way, especially if Kiernan Shipka, Morgan Saylor, and Sarah Hyland are any indication. The three young actresses have pivotal roles on television's biggest shows—Kiernan as Sally Draper on Mad Men, Morgan as Dana Brody on Homeland, and Sarah as Haley Dunphy on Modern Family—and are quickly cementing themselves as red carpet mainstays. The three are the cover stars of the latest edition of ASOS Magazine, and not only do they pose in some super adorable prom looks, but the three open up about their own prom experiences (or lack thereof). Before we get too far into what's inside the pages, though, let's ooh and aah over the overwhelming cuteness that is that cover. The three girls are styled effortlessly, in clean makeup, floral accessories, and dresses that reflect each of their individual styles. Morgan channels Lana Del Rey in a white lace shift and flower headband, Kiernan stays true to her preppy proclivities in a white a-line cocktail dress with a floral collar, and Sarah keeps it modern in a baby blue, semi-sheer frock.
Mariah Carey in coral, and Nicki Minaj (with Smokey Robinson) also in...coral. Photo: Getty
Watch out, y'all, there may be trouble brewing on the American Idol set, and it's giving us traumatic flashbacks to our high school days. We had to do a double-take last night, when Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj took to the judges table in...wait, are they wearing the same dress? THE HORROR! Both Mariah and Nicki, notorious rivals, had decided to wear solid coral dresses for the Motown episode of the show, and although the cuts were definitely not identical, it seemed like it had to be something of an unfortunate coincidence. Did you ever show up to a school dance in the EXACT same dress as your sworn frenemy? Nightmarish. To add insult to injury, yesterday was Mariah's birthday. The bright side, though: they both look amazing in this color.
Well hello there, Kate Nash! The MTV Artist to Watch is performing tonight at The Studio at Webster Hall in NYC, but she's also all over the latest issue of Galore magazine, looking fierce and making us long for bike riding weather. Shot by Galore editor-in-chief Jacob Dekat for the Women Who Rock Issue (featuring cover girlChanel Iman, of course), Kate took to the New York City streets in an INCREDIBLE bejeweled bra top and hot pants from The Blonds, layered over her own fishnet top, and a necklace from Toujours Toi. Nash is channeling a punk rock pin-up in her usual victory rolls, her brown hair streaked with bleached blond, a flawless cat eye and bright red lip. Earlier this month, we chatted with Kate about her style, her music, and more specifically, her new album Girl Talk, and she made it very clear that she's no slouch when it come to fashion. Her Galore shoot reflects just that, with unexpected styling and a super fun approach to already fun pieces.
Adam Levine is your textbook hunk. Rakish and charming, with enough tattoos to certainly qualify as a bad boy, the Maroon 5 front man has everything a girl is looking for in a bad idea. Did we mention that he can now add actor to his already impressive resume? Oh, and he looks really good in a white t-shirt. All of these reasons and then some landed Levine the May cover of Nylon Guys, and frankly it's a little hard to stop staring. Looking straight into the camera with an inscrutable look on his scruffy face, Levine poses in his signature white long sleeved henley and a pair of army green pants, his tiger tattoo prominent right below the cover line. In the accompanying interview, the singer and The Voicejudge drops enough f-bombs to make a good girl blush, but he also proves himself to be pragmatic and actually kind of down to earth. When asked about rumors that Shakira makes more money than him, Levine emphatically replies, “She’s Shakira dude! She’s a f****** international superstar! I don’t care. It’s just money.” Levine has sold over 17 million records, so...pot calling international superstar black much, no? We can't lie, we're still pretty charmed, though.
Beyonce, Iggy Azalea, and Ellie Goulding will be performing for Chime For Change in London. Photo: Getty
Get ready for the best dressed show of the summer, AND it's for a good cause. Beyonce, Iggy Azalea, Florence And The Machine, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora and more will be getting together in London on June 1st to present The Sound of Change Live, a concert to benefit the Chime for Change Initiative, funded by Gucci. Beyonce, who is the initiative's spokesperson, will also serve as the concert's creative director, working both with the artists who will be playing the show and with the organization as a whole. In a statement made to Vogue, Beyonce described the mission of the concert, saying, "our goal is to call for change for girls and women in the loudest voice possible," adding, "I am excited for us to come together on June 1 to bring the issues of education, health and justice for girls and women to the world stage." The best part, Gucci helping with the cost of the production, so all ticket sales will benefit charities helping women.
Chanel Iman on the cover of Galore. Photo: Ellen Von Unwerth/Galore
One could argue that every issue of Galore mag is one about women who rock, since their subjects are always so bonkers amazing, but their Spring 2013 glossy certainly ups the ante in that department. Featuring interviews with a grip of awesome ladies, including Kate Nash, Andrej Pejic, and Brooke Candy, and a slightly racy cover shoot featuring Chanel Iman, it has spring fever written all over it. Shot by Ellen Von Unwerth, Chanel poses in a silver, deep v-necked bodysuit and mirrored gold pumps, silver sunglasses pushed girlishly up on her head, eyes looking straight into the camera, like she's contemplating whether or not to eat you alive. The vibe is a little bit Boogie Nights, a little bit '70s, and extremely opulent, and it's really working for us.
You know how much we love Advanced Style. Ari Seth Cohen's blog-turned-book-turned-documentary is one of our favorite destinations for inspiration that transcends trends, and with his latest endevour he has paired some of our fave bloggers with some truly fabulous advanced ladies. Advanced Style x Coach: Generations of Style should be required watching for every young fashion fan, as each of the segments is filled with unbeatable advice. Cohen paired Man Repeller's Leandra Medine up with "Countess of Glamour" Lynn Dell for the series, and watching the two together fills our hearts with endless amounts of joy as we put our noses into our notebooks and furiously write down all of Lynn's expert advice.
A little background: Lynn Dell is a New York City fashion legend. The owner of Boutique Off Broadway on Manhattan's Upper West Side, she's been a provider of sage style advice for more than 40 years. Leandra recalls one of Lynn's most well known quotes in the video, which is one that we're going to put in our pocket and carry around forever. "Fashion says 'me too;' style says 'only me.'" Isn't that the truth?! Advanced Style also paired blogger Susie Bubble with Ilona Royce Smithkin and FrouFrouu with Linda Rodin and we would highly recommend watching all three videos. Sharpen your pencils!
Two words: Formal. Onesie. Ok so maybe red carpet jumpsuits are nothing groundbreaking, but just last week we were lamenting the coming of warm weather, and with it, and end to Miley Cyrus' animal onesie season, but if her appearance at an event for The Ryan Seacrest Foundation on Friday is any indication, Miley's love for one piece ensembles will not wane with the coming spring. Channeling Donna Summer, Miley took to the red carpet in a black and white striped, strapless Chanel jumpsuit. This look is quintessential Miley, not only showcasing her love for single piece garments, but also showing off one of her favorite patterns—thick, vertical, black and white stripes. Miley has been spotted in the silhouette elongating look in both dress and pant form, and she's right on trend. We've been chatting about black and white stripes since the fall, when Marc Jacobs showed them on his spring 2013 runway, and we think we're going to be seeing monochrome in many forms in the coming months, vertical stripes in particular.
Ke$ha performing at the 2013 Kids' Choice Awards. Photo: Getty
We all know that Ke$ha is the ultimate party animal, and she certainly didn't disappoint at the 2013 Kids' Choice Awards. The singer performed a little bit of "We R Who We R" AND "C'mon" at the show, and did so while wearing what we're confident was THE CRAZIEST outfit of the night. We knew she Ke$sha had something up her sleeve when she showed up on the red carpet with her little bro, channeling 90's comedy classicDumb & Dumber in a powder blue suit, so we can't say we were shocked when her on stage look was a veritable kooky feast for the eyes. KeSha took to the stage with her hair pulled back in a tight ponytail (channeling Iggy Azalea, perhaps? Or Katy Perry's 2012 KCA look?), wearing one one of the most epic outfits we've seen, maybe ever. Bold statement, we know, but let's just look at it in parts. Multi-colored fun fur? check. Holographic shorts? check. Creepers? Check. Neon button up? Check. It's like 70's New York City punk, 90's rave and aughts Brooklyn got into a fight all over our girl. Did we mention that we love it? We love it.
