Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga for 'V' Magazine.

Remember how we kind of off-handedly pointed out that Lady Gaga was almost topless on that first V Magazine cover from earlier this week? All that cleavage blending into underboob was just an afterthought because we were so caught up in the CUSTOM Saint Laurent draped on top of it. And we also kind of noted that she wasn't really wearing much more for her inside shots. Welp, let this be the day we learn to never underestimate Gagaloo's commitment to nakedness. V has just unveiled all four of Lady Gaga's limited edition covers AND spreads, and girl is barely wearing any clothes.

Don't be so quick to *hold a beat* walk away. We have some BIG Video Music Awards news that's gonna rock your body, world, late-August schedule, EVERYTHING. Justin Timberlake (as in THE Justin Timberlake) is performing at the 2013 VMAs in Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Sunday, August 25! Not only will JT be hitting the VMA stage for the first time in 6 years, but MTV is also doling out highest honors to Timberlake, presenting him with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. From his formative days in *NSYNC to this year's hotly anticipated (TWO PART) 20/20 Experience, from Justified to "SexyBack," Justin Timberlake's footprint on pop culture, especially in the music video space, is gigantic. SO, is there any better excuse than this to take a look back at Justin's contributions to music video fashion? (Answer: Nope.) Here are our top 10 favorite Justin Timberlake music video wardrobes of ALL-TIME. In GIFs!

10) 'I WANT YOU BACK' - *NSYNC

Back in 1997, a little 5-man singing group called *NSYNC dropped their eponymously titled debut album. On that record was a track (#8, if we're getting really specific) called "I Want You Back." (P.S. If you don't get goosebumps during the boys' first staggered chord, you should probably close out of this browser tab now because this is not the post for you.) It was the group's first official single, and our music video introduction to Justin Timberlake. And what an intro it was. Single Sinbad earring, ripstop nylon jackets (like all the boys at school used to wear), an evident appreciation for over-sized sporty separates, and yea, the baby blues didn't hurt either.

9) 'CRY ME A RIVER' - JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

After *NSYNC, JT embarked on what has become a colossally successful crossover solo career. One of our favorite songs and music videos from his premier reinvention stage is now and will forever be "Cry Me A River," a Timbaland-produced kiss-off track inspired by the end of his relationship with Britney Spears. It was moody, somber, but still a little bit vengeful, and accordingly, Justin was clad in all black and soaking wet from rain. The static shots with his hood up are THE BEST.

Do The Right Thing

Spike Lee as Mookie in 'Do The Right Thing.'
Photo: Universal Pictures

The 2013 Video Music Awards are breaking new ground as the very first awards show in Brooklyn, kicking off live at 9 p.m. EST on Sunday, August 25 from Barclays Center. (And if you don't know, now you knowwww.) In honor of the history-making show, we're immersing ourselves in the VMAs' new neighborhood, unpacking iconic aspects of BK style in movies, music, and art. First up, Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing.

Do The Right Thing is a cultural triumph, telling the story of one day—the hottest of the year—in a Bed-Stuy neighborhood bubbling over with racial tension. The film, Lee's third-EVER feature, is visually stunning, awash with a vibrant and jumbled color palette of yellows, reds, limes, and purples, and the interplay is arresting, adding a slightly surreal tinge to the rising turbulence. The silhouettes—tees, shorts, tanks—remind you that it's a hot summer day on Stuyvesant Avenue between Lexington and Quincy street. The film and Ruth E. Carter's brilliant costuming work had a highly influential trickle-down effect—see Will Smith's TV wardrobe for the entire six-season run of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. (Important/Fun Fact: Carter is also the genius responsible for Halle Berry's orange patent latex and gravity-defying hair in B*A*P*S.)

Kendrick Lamar

Enter the age of Kendrick Lamar in white tees and Nike Cortez sneakers.
Photo: Getty Images

Last night and all day today, Kendrick Lamar has been at the forefront of every hip-hop conversation thanks to an inspired (as if any one adjective could do it justice) verse on a track called "Control" which was originally meant for Big Sean's forthcoming Hall Of Fame album but won't appear reportedly due to sample-clearance issues. The centerpiece of discussion is Kendrick's heated by-name call-out of a laundry list of MCs: J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Tyler, The Creator, Mac Miller and even Sean and Jay Electronica who flank K-Dot on the track. More than a jarringly high profile call-to-action name drop, though, Lamar's verse is an iron-fisted mandate, an ultimatum that the entire rap game step up lyrically else he's pilfering all his friends' fans. What does this have to do with style? Amidst Kendrick's tough love edict to elevate the genre, he also rejects high fashion, ushering in a new era for his personal style.

You already knew Miley Cyrus would be making a 2013 VMA appearance, but we can finally tell you today that Billy Ray's little girl isn't just attending (as she has for so many years in the past), she's PERFORMING. That's right, Smilers. On Sunday, August 25, your supreme flaxen pixie-haired leader is joining the current line-up of Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Katy Perry, and also just-announced Robin Thicke, hitting the stage in honor of the Moonman and the year in music videos. We're fully aware that Miles can dress herself for her big VMA moment, but being that we spend 75% of our days online shopping, we figured we'd put our powers to good use and send a little unsolicited wardrobe advice her way. Y'know, just in case she needs it. In other words, we rounded up a few crop tops she might want to wear on stage.

That's right, Katy Cats! Your fearless ruler Katy Perry (she likes to go by "Mom") is headed for the 2013 Video Music Awards. Filling out an already star-studded lineup (so far including Lady Gaga and Kanye West), Katy will use her VMA appearance Sunday, August 25, at 9 p.m. ET at Brooklyn's Barclays Center for the premier live performance of her brand new single, "Roar." KP's been a VMA mainstay since her One Of The Boys mainstream debut, so in honor of her history-making homecoming (and in anticipation of what "new" Katy will wear for her performance, we're taking a look back at her VMA style evolution. Leggo!

It's been a minute since we were first introduced to this version of KP: bubbly, blue-eyed and owner of one of the summer's hottest (in more ways than one) singles "I Kissed A Girl." For her breakout VMA appearance in 2008, Katy went for a red carpet look that mirrored the boudoir feel of her music video: a white satin bustier top with a demi halter neck and silver star embellishments, peach satin hotpants with maribou feather adornments, metallic fuschia round-toe pumps, and a glittery hard case clutch decorated with star-spangled rhinestones. Her lips were red, her liquid liner pristine, and she had a bow-shaped barrette in her hair.

Stussy Yo! MTV Raps

The Stussy x Yo! MTV Raps collaboration.
Photo: Stussy

This month 25 years ago, a little show called "Yo! MTV Raps" premiered on the very network we call home. It revolutionized rap and the landscape of music in general, catapulting what was once an underground genre intro the public televised eye. Since then, the widespread awareness and popularity of rap has escalated, and its pop culture footprint—influencing music, style, language, and more—only continues to grow. The show's run may have ended in 1995, but its role as a catalyst for the dissemination of rap to the masses is an undeniable one. In honor of the 25th anniversary of "Yo! MTV Raps," Stüssy has released a collaborative collection featuring 10 influential artists from the show's run.

Oh, red carpet. With the exception of the occasional summer blockbuster premiere, these warmer months are generally devoid of step-and-repeat steez. Luckily, come August, there's always the Teen Choice Awards (and of course, our own VMAs later this month #shamelessplug). The 2013 TCAs certainly didn't let us down in the well-dressed PYT department, and even though it was pretty much impossible, we did our best to whittle it down to the top looks of the night from Demi Lovato to Hailee Steinfeld and everyone in between.

Lovatics were treated to two Demi outfits as didn't just attend but also hit the stage to perform her single, "Made In The USA." On the carpet, D wore a black satin brocade blazer (which was swapped out for a leather jacket on stage), relaxed fit white tee, leather leggings, and black platform booties. Angling for a rock edge, the look was finished with layered silver necklaces, heavy smoky eyeliner, and a dramatic half-up half-down 'do with a high pompadour.

One Direction

Take notes, boys. One Direction has just served up a catalogue's worth of model dude outfits for fall at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. We've watched this 5-piece boy band grow from meticulous color-coordination to the loose use of denim as a wardrobe unifier. This latest red carpet and stage showing, though? That's just exemplary laid-back guy styling at its best. Let's start with 1D's TCAs arrival. Every dude showed up in a pair of jeans of varying washes and silhouettes (stone-washed relaxed fit for Liam, dark resin and cuffed for Louis, white and tight for Zayn, vintage wash and slim fit for Niall, and basically painted-on for Harry). The guys' shoe game is out of this world, and almost every one of them wore an excellent transitional jacket, save Harry who chose instead to wear a collared shirt unbuttoned just below his diaphragm and a wide-brimmed felt hat. Very John Mayer, no?

Hot Dog

Hot diggity dog!
Photo: Urban Outfitters/End Clothing/Kate Spade/Etsy/Hello Cellophane

Of all the cookout foods-turned-clothes in the game right now (LOL thinking about there really being a game for that), hot dogs might be the most underrated. Sure, burgers are, like, KING in that space (fast food pun unintended, seriously), but we want to take this Friday to give the frank a little shine. It's meat in a tube + a bed of bread + a pile of whatever condiments you're feeling at the moment. It's a low maintenance cruise ship of sustenance that is also tasty and relatively pretty easy to eat. It's AWESOME, OK? Thus, we scoured the interwebz for things to help us wear our hot dog-loving hearts on our sleeves (literally) and properly pay homage to the frank.
