We may be miles across the pond, but pesky things like distance and time zones and international programming limitations aren't holding us back from keeping close tabs on all the fashion comings and goings of the 2013 BRIT Awards (tonight their time, this afternoon ours!) in London. The stars have only just started to roll through, but they are turning it OUT for the mid-week awards show. There are still a few key players we're waiting on (namely performers Justin Timberlake and those One Direction cuties), but we're ALREADY seen a ton of great red carpet fashion. Most exciting for us so far? Taylor Swift shirking her go-to reds, golds, and whites, for a saucy BLACK number with see-through panels, Jessie J looking positively glamorous and near-unrecognizable in a plunging neckline cut to there, sleek hair, and soft feminine makeup, and finally our bb Emeli Sande looking smart in a tailored shirtdress and her trademark platinum pomp. Check out more 2013 BRIT Awards red carpet fashion photos below!

Selena Gomez

Don't let Selena Gomez's big doe eyes and baby face fool you. She's a saucy little starlette with an eye for show-stopping couture. The Spring Breakers ladies are making their international rounds, promoting the premiere of their Harmony Korine project from New York to Venice to Paris and everywhere in between. Where Italy brought out the most ladylike of the Spring Breakers girls, Paris marked a turn where the film's leading ladies have started to show off considerably more skin, and judging from the latest red carpet showing from the Germany premiere, chief among them is Miss Selena Gomez.

Despite the familiar Disney faces in Spring Breakers (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and even Ashley Benson, by way of ABC Family, all have history with The Mouse), we're not expecting the movie to be anything like the shiny, sparkly happy endings we're used to watching these ladies act out. On the contrary, we're expecting something much closer to director Harmony Korine's first forays into film-making: Kids and Gummo. The reality of just how gritty some of our favorite on-screen good girls become for this film has been a slow reveal. Between Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle tees and motorized scooters on-set and cheeky swimsuit snaps in magazine promo shots, the film's leading ladies have generally kept their Spring Break steez off the red carpet (Exhibit A: the cast's glamorous and ladylike Venice togs). That is, until now. Judging from Ashley, Selena, Vanessa, and Rachel Korine's Paris premiere ensembles, it looks like the girls are starting to rep Spring Break skin on the step-and-repeats, as well!

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato performs at the Topshop/Topman opening in Los Angeles.
Photo: Getty Images

Even with a serious leg injury that has her posted up on crutches and rocking a (studded) orthopedic boot, Demi Lovato braved the stage to wail and floor fans with her impressive pipes. Demi performed for the grand opening of a new Topshop in the famous Los Angeles shopping center, The Grove, a small set including smash hit "Give Your Heart A Break." For her performance outfit, D paired the aforementioned boot with a spike-laden leather jacket, an over-sized heather gray t-shirt, black skinnies, and a few loose chains. Per usual, her beauty game was on point with a fresh, glowing face, strong (but not crazy) brows, and a classically badass matte red lip.

We're pretty sure if a term (slang or otherwise) is being used in MSNBC headlines to describe the Michelle Obama eye roll heard 'round the world, it requires little to no explanation. However, for clarity's sake, we're going to unpack it for you anyway. *Kanye shrug* "Throwing shade" is an expression used to describe the act of casually disrespecting people, usually in the form of a glance. A glance PREGNANT with judgement. Sometimes shade is thrown to be seen. Other times, it's a knee-jerk reaction you just can't hide. Either way, New York Fashion Week is a veritable HOTBED of it.

It makes complete sense. A week wherein every group, department, and tier of the fashion industry intermingles for show after show after show? Wherein models, editors, designers, celebrities, and bloggers are all competing for limelight? Wherein the sound of egos brushing abounds almost as much as the clatter of high heels? It's a perfect storm for every iteration of shade-throwing you can possibly imagine. The best part? There are legions of photographers posted up all over the city, ready and waiting to capture every stank face, eye roll, and grimace for all eternity. We can't say that we were able to track down all the slick side-eyes from this season (also, that post will be one billion trillion words long, and ain't nobody got time for that), but we DID sift out our top ten photos of fashion's biggest and brightest throwing shade this New York Fashion Week (plus, completely fabricated commentary about what's happening in each image). Enjoy! *blows kiss, waves*

"PACK IT IN, ANNA" SHADE

The legendary Anna Wintour is infamous for killing a career with a single glance, but here the shade-throwing tables appear to have turned. Wintour smiles sweetly, leaning into Vogue compatriot Grace Coddington. Unfortunately, whatever Anna's selling the other two aren't buying, as they stone-face avoid looking in her general direction, pretending not to subscribe to all that. SHADE. Realistically, these ladies were probably just trying to get out of what they presumed would be a solo dolo of Anna, but you've gotta admit that the final effect is hilarz.

Beyonce

Beyonce for "The Gentlewoman" magazine.
Photo: The Gentlewoman

If you're on 24/7 Beyonce Watch like us, you will have noticed that Mrs. Carter just posted what appears to be her entire The Gentlewoman cover shoot to her Tumblr. Bey posts up for the editorial spread against another minimal backdrop and in black-and-white (as is the style of the mag). In keeping with the "bare it all" M.O. of her "Life Is But A Dream" HBO documentary (premiering tomorrow night at 9PM EST!), Beyonce wears a series of simple but chic outfits (por ejemplo: a black cashmere sweater and white floral skirt, both by Dior, on the cover), a slicked back, super-straight ponytail, and little to no makeup. The honesty of image is striking to say the least.

Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z

A still from Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie (Ft. Jay-Z)" music video.
Photo: RCA Records

Justin Timberlake is almost too smooth for his own good. His moves (both of the dance and business variety) are so slick that in retrospect, you think you should have seen them coming. Like, of COURSE, we should have known that JT would release the official music video for his comeback single "Suit & Tie (Ft. Jay-Z)" on VALENTINE'S DAY, ensuring his title as the best Valentine a bajillion humans have ever (EVER) had. The video, which (!!!) features a mostly-seated Hov, may be in black-and-white, but rest assured, the grayscale does not inhibit either of these dudes from racking up an impressive amount of outfit changes. Thus, we're breaking them all down for you look by look. Happy V-Day, y'all!

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato wears a studded orthopedic boot over her leg cast.
Photo: Courtesy of @jaredeng's Instagram

Demi Lovato is basically the patron saint of the "Keep On Keepin' On" mentality. No matter what hurdles life throws her way, D turns them into speed bumps and skates over them with a huge smile and a heavy-handed pour of style. Case and point: this studded orthopedic boot she wore over her foot cast to last night's Topshop celebration in Los Angeles. In case you need some catching up, Demi incurred a very sadface foot/lower-leg injury after a nasty fall, and since then, has been rocking a black cast and boot combo. But Miss Lovato is a style queen and refuses to let the clunkiness of modern medicine get her fashion game down, especially when she's about to perform for L.A.'s first free-standing Topshop!

Ahhh, New York Fashion Week. We're so close to the end. From Rebecca Minkoff to Marc by Marc, we've loved every minute of you, but we think the honeymoon period this season is juuuust about over and it's getting to that point in our relationship when things get a little difficult. It's totally fine and normal and expected with every relationship, and rest assured, we'll be giddy with excitement come your return in September, but for now, we've rounded up a few of the most difficult (difficult for mobility, difficult to fathom, difficult to see yourself realistically wearing, etc.) outfits from your offerings this week in honor of these turbulent times.

SPATIALLY DIFFICULT

Thom Browne, Chromat

Looks from the Thom Browne and Chromat Fall 2013 New York Fashion Week shows.

This gray-blue patchwork coat number from Thom Browne and this rectangular white cage by Chromat (the same line behind Beyonce's Super Bowl backup dancers' outfits!!) are pretty equal in their spatial difficulty. For the record, we here at MTV Style LOVE both of these labels, but these particular pieces give us more "art piece" vibes than "ready to wear." Both have strong shoulders exaggerated to the point of turning the entire garment into a polygon. The Thom Browne is probably more difficult to get through certain doorways (wider, less pliable through its width), the Chromat we imagine as difficult to sit in comfortably.

Shateria Moragne-El

Shateria Moragne-El takes her final bow at FrontRow.

You might know Shateria Moragne-el from her work as a talented stylist. Or even perhaps as Rick Ross's rumored main lady. But you should know that Shateria has translated her eye for style into a banner transition to design. Her line, FrontRow, just presented and celebrated its Fall 2013 collection, fittingly with a star-studded front row. The Mastermind Rozay attended (who BTW was clad in a custom FrontRow peacoat with a croc lapel) as did Waka Flocka Flame. After a parade of covetable and UNDOUBTEDLY expensive ensembles dripping in leather and plushy furs, we actually got a chance to chat with Shateria about her creations!

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
