Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga wears a bubble dress after her iTunes Festival performance.

While you (OK, we) were chowing on hamburgers and making the most of the last few days of summer, Lady Gaga was opening the UK's month-long iTunes Festival with a massive live album preview. Mother Monster gathered fans for a self-described Swine Fest complete with its own dress code. Little Monsters were encouraged to wear seashells, starfish, and other underwater fare (along with other sartorial oddities like bedazzled pig noses and "Bowie magician garb"), but AFTER the show, Gaga let her outfit itself do all the performing, slipping into an all-white, BUBBLE dress.

Jeremy Scott and A$AP Rocky for "Complex" Magazine.
Photo: Complex

Welp. Anyone remotely familiar with the music and style sensibilities of A$AP Rocky and Jeremy Scott had to know this was coming, right? By "this," I'm, of course, referring to the just-released news that this duo has teamed up with adidas Originals for a pair of limited edition collaboration sneakers. The "Fashion Killa" MC and the runway-ready streetwear (or is it street-ready runway?) designer started off as long-time admirers of each others' work and quickly spun that mutual respect into an actual friendship—supporting each other and even covering magazines together. On top of that, they each have their own separate relationships with adidas: Jeremy having contributed collections upon collections upon collections for the brand, and Rocky having lent his voice and pretty mug to a commercial earlier this year. The triple-headed collab was inevitable.

Beyonce

Beyonce and her new longer short hair have just graced Coney Island, Brooklyn with their angelic joint presence! Rumored to have been shooting a music video (with Terry Richardson, no less), Mrs. Carter's Cyclone-riding ensemble definitely out-does anything we've ever worn to an amusement park. At its foundation, it's actually a pretty basic 'fit, but it's Bey's accessories that really turns this up to another decibel with GOBS of gold drenching her clavicle and right wrist and choice hat game. Bey K. takes this opportunity riding Brooklyn's most infamous rollercoaster to rep another BK icon: The Notorious B.I.G., wearing Biggie on her snapback trucker hat.

Michael Jackson

Look bad (but in a good way) in this throwback Michael Jackson "Stan Swag."

55 years ago today, Michael Jackson was born. The man has been and will continue to be a pop culture/music icon for decades, and on top of that, he had an inimitable personal style that always felt relevant and genuine in everything he did. In honor of what would have been the King of Pop's 55th birthday, we've rounded up a few of our favorite pieces of MJ Stan Swag. Because, honestly, who isn't a Stan for Michael?

Looks like we just might be one step closer to that full-length Angel Haze studio album, folks! The quick-lipped MC premiered a new single off her hotly anticipated Dirty Gold project yesterday. It's called "Echelon (It's My Way)" and as you can probably expect from the title, the record is just over three-and-a-half minutes of Haze spitting swagger and talking tall.

Most notable to us, though, is that amidst name dropping a handful of cars and slipping in a nod to Kanye (Feed me berries out in Paris / While I'm counting my croissants), she reps hard for the fashion community in her rhymes, even incorporating Fashion Week into the hook.

Lady Gaga, One Direction

One Direction is ready for Swine Fest by Gaga's standards.

Fresh off her 2013 VMA performance, Lady Gaga is making up for lost time and already back on the touring circuit. This weekend, she hits the UK's iTunes Festival for a performance appearance she's lovingly dubbing "Swine Fest." As with all things Gaga touches, she's not doing this halfway and has taken to Twitter to dispatch a (growing) dress code for the occasion.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus teases Jordan-themed "23" music video.
Photo: @MileyCyrus Twitter

While the rest of the world is still reeling from her jaw-dropping VMA performance, Miley Cyrus is keeping it moving. Miles spent last night shooting Mike WiLL Made It's upcoming music video, "23," in Brooklyn. If you haven't heard any of the track yet (AND being that, currently, Miley and Mike are 20 and 24 years old), this isn't akin to Taylor Swift's age-anthemic, "22." Instead, judging from the behind-the-scenes wardrobe that Miley revealed via Twitter, the double-digit numerical song title refers to G.O.A.T. NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears perform in nearly nude stage outfits.
Photo: Getty Images

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that, by now, 80% of America has to have seen (or at least heard about) Miley Cyrus' performance at last night's 2013 VMAs. The kick-off of a three-song medley—her own single, "We Can't Stop," plus Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and "Give It 2 U" featuring 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar—Miley started things off with a bang in a silver bear-faced leotard accompanied by an actually pretty clever a**-glorifying intro medley of what appear to be interpolations of Juvenile's "Back That Azz Up" and Big Sean's "A$$," if you were paying close enough attention, leading into her smash single. Giant teddy backpacks and dancers dressed as bears supported Miley's tongue-and-twerk-tastic solo performance, her first time ever on the VMA stage. And then the Robin Thicke portion started.

Wow. Just. Wow. There you have it, folks. The rumors were true. We were just graced with an *NSYNC reunion at the 2013 VMAs in celebration of Justin Timberlake's Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Is everyone still breathing? (Because I barely am...) In honor of the boy man band's ceremonious return to the MTV stage with a few bars of "Gone," "Girlfriend," AND "Bye Bye Bye" (with the VERY same TV choreography from their 2000 performance, BTW), we're taking a look back at how far they've come. Sartorially speaking.

1999 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

Hello, late '90s. For *NSYNC's first appearance at the Video Music Awards, the group went all out with LUSH luxury fabrics. A strong fur vest for JC Chasez (plus some bicep and knee bands), head-to-toe black leather on JT (pre-dating another Justin who frequents this look), Lance Bass in wool jewel tones (and teeny bookish spectacles), Chris Kirkpatrick in a glittering sage jacket, and Joey Fatone in a full-length evergreen pony hair jacket off-set by his FLAME red hair. Classic.

Lil Kim

Rebecca Romijn interviews rapper Lil Kim (in a boobie onesie outfit) at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards.

Thinking back on the most iconic VMA fashion moments of all-time, most everyone's top 10, maybe even top 5, will include these four standbys: Lady Gaga's meat dress, Madonna's bridal "Like A Virgin" moment, Britney Spears' accessory python, and of COURSE, that time Lil Kim wore a purple onesie to the 1999 VMAs with her left boob hanging out. In our opinion, it's always a fitting year to relive this magical show-stopping sartorial moment, but it's even more appropriate given this year marking not only the Video Music Awards' return to New York (the 1999 show took place at NYC's Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center), but ALSO given we're breaking new ground in Kimmy Blanco's hometown of Brooklyn.
