Our ecstatic birthday meows.

Once upon a time, MTV said, "Let there be light!" And by light, they meant strobes, with sequins, and in soft focus as to not show any of our frown lines. So we were birthed, naked and squirming, on to the infinitely warm cyberspace. One year later, we have shed our infant skins and have become toddlers, teetering our way on slightly precarious platforms through the internet.

In short, today is our birthday. The big oh one. So much has happened in our mere 365 days: We found out we were "Born This Way." We watched JWOWW go from Jersey to red carpet-ready... Jersey-style. We gasped in both excitement and fear when Emma Watson cut her hair (like most major changes, we've adjusted, and have grown to love it).

Because we are not one to revel in our own glory (our small, trembling lumps of glory), we've decided to give back to you, our reader. So we've made you some birthday gifs. But, MTV Style, you say, we thought you were writers? Where is the "T" in that previous sentence? Nope. Birthday gifs. In which we take our favorite stories since our inception and retell them in a single, perhaps jarring, gif form. And then, for kicks we have a couple of factoids to share with you to prove how much we've grown. (The answer to that: a lot.)

Soon, we'll be potty-trained and able to sit at the big kids table. But for now, we'll keep you up to date on the coolest fashion news PON DE WEB (which is, we like to think, what we do best).

OK, listen. We get that fashion week is all about the "aspirational" and is the "showcase" because all these houses make up their bottom lines in fragrances and handbags but some of the stuff we stumbled upon from Sao Paulo Fashion week is just straight-up STRANGE. And we're not even talking about the clothes here (the clothes, for the record, are sorta genius)! It's obvious the Brazilians have a thing for hats/headgear/wearable face art, so we picked some of the most outlandish pieces that ended up on this week's runway. Would YOU ever wear any of these?

DESIGNER: Samuel Cirnansck
WTF FACTOR: Um, it's a bride with a bouquet shoved in her mouth. With her hands tied up. We get the obvious "shackles of matrimony" thing and would love nothing more than the stuff ANYTHING in the mouths of the various bridezillas that are ruining (RUINING!) our summers but still... too on-the-nose we thinks.

Snooki in Italy and NYC.
Photo: Getty Images

Juuuust when we were getting cozy in Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's extensive slipper collection, the Jersey Shore star decided to expand her footwear line—actually labeled the apt and hilarious "Snooki Enterprises"—to include (gasp!) flip-flops and wedges. This is no surprise considering the Snooks is CONSTANTLY spotted on the beach working on the "T" in her "GTL." Her footwear line, which includes green pickles plastered across bright pink sequined flip-flops (with Snooki’s heart signature, of course) and ruched leopard print thongs, will retail between $15 and $50. Check out the pink pickle slip-ons below!

Tupac Shakur in 1993 and at the 'I Like It Like That' premiere on Nov. 13, 1994.

Today would have been Tupac Amaru Shakur's 40th birthday, and while we respect his sizable contribution to the rap canon, we here at MTV Style believe it's most important to remember that dude was a babe. And that he frequently wore clothes of the '90s-awesome variety. In fact, his style was so iconic—from his overalls + rugby stripes, to his denim-on-denim Canadian tuxedos, to his allover camo, and his three-piece suits—that instead of picking just one moment, we've dedicated an entire gallery to his sartorial evolution. Like, his doo-rag was so recognizable that were you to draw the outline of his head in Hitchcockian fashion, you would immediately know who it belonged to, you know?

Nicholas Kirkwood x Keith Haring.

Nicholas Kirkwood collaborating with Keith Haring is so CDG's Rei Kawakubo x Matt Groening in how much it splodes our brain. Nicholas Kirkwood, whose cobbling genius can be seen in the way he plays delicate lace uppers and spindly stilettos off of chunky platforms and glinting hardware, is as much a sculptor as he is a shoemaker and unsurprisingly has a background in art.

"I actually studied fine art at Central Saint Martins," he says, "The combination of fashion and art is very interesting for me. I never claim to be an artist. I'm a designer. But I think there are areas in which they can merge, and that overlap is exciting."

Florence Welch at the Gucci Grammy Awards Brunch on February 12, 2011 and the proposed Gucci costume sketch.

Holy floral epaulettes, sashes, illusion skorts and diaphanous sashes! News that Gucci will be designing the tour outfits for Forence Welch of Florence And The Machine fame thrills us to bits especially since her appearance at the Met Gala in floor-length YSL may have had tongues wag to the contrary. The flame-tressed musician, dubbed one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People," and described as "eccentric" and "the most peculiar and most highly acclaimed female singer of the moment" has always been in our crosshairs for her iconic, dreamy, ethereal neo-raphaelite personal style, and this latest development seems a keen match.

While it's unnerving to think that Elle Fanning is still just a wee 13-year-old, the sought-after actress and Super 8 star has been gracing fashion editorials for several seasons now. The thing about this BlackBook magazine spread that we particularly enjoy is its austerity. Granted the flaxen-haired babychild looks sort of glum and we prefer her in bright, fresh, bursts of age-appropriate color (like, when she wore floral Dolce & Gabbana to the Movie Awards. Also, pssssst we added video to the link so def come check it out) but the fashion references that are evoked here definitely remind us of our youth. New York City, today, is supposed to be a searing 100 degrees. Besides sending us running to the nearest AC haven, we've now got to switch our entire beauty game up. Since wearing sunscreen on a daily basis is an incredibly judicious choice (and also saves your skin from wrinkles further down the line), our precious epidermis is protected. But the heat does something awful to our mop, and girls with once stick-straight hair look like they've locked lips with an electric outlet or long, swooping bangs become long, swooping acne cover-ups. Since we've all got 'em (bangs that is) though in different shapes and sizes, we've scooped the best ways to tame an unwieldy mane—whether you go short, long, or in between.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
