VV Brown is a singer you need to know. Not only for her music, with its catchy indie-pop sound (download her single 'Shark In The Water' and you'll see) and tour with Maroon 5 this summer, but also for her fashion. The 26-year-old Brit is a rising star in the fashion industry — posing for Elle and Vogue as a model signed with Next Model Management. So when she swung through the MTV Style studio a few weeks ago for a photo shoot (click here to see all the amazing photos!), we quizzed her on her music, style, her signature flattop hairstyle, and her thoughts on the fashion industry. Good news! This one knows how to speak her mind. Read on for more.

How does your style reflect your music?
VV Brown: "My music is a mix of many different styles from punk to retro to reggae to pop, and I think generally that is my personality. Even the way I’ve been raised; my dad is Puerto Rican and my mum is Jamaican and I’ve grown up in London. So my whole life is very mixed up with many, many different cultures and many, many different things that inspire my fashion."

How do you style your signature flattop do?
"I actually do the roll myself, and then whoever I’m working with helps wraps it and makes it neat with hair spray. The roll comes from a long journey of experimentation and my love of different cultures. I think maybe for the second album I'll experiment with something else."

Besides singing, you're involved in the fashion industry, as a model (in British Vogue and beyond) and a vintage collector. Would you ever want to design your own collection?
"I’d love to do a collection in the future based upon time periods — a whole collection inspired by medieval times or Victorian or Edwardian all the way up to the future of what fashion is, and it would be a collection that embraces all the different times. That would be fun."

Is there anything you dislike about the fashion industry?
"It’s very fickle and consumed by vanity. As much as I love fashion, there is a balance I have in my world. I think in the fashion world you can be consumed with just beauty and being thin. The question of size zero and how small models are, that’s quite a concern of mine. I don’t think models need to be extremely thin. I think the perception of beauty needs to change, and I think all women need to be celebrated."

How should the view of beauty change?
"The normal woman outside the fashion industry is trying to attain an unrealistic perception of what is beautiful. That’s not reality. Fashion and beauty should be about happiness and health, innovation, expression, and sexuality. Being sexy is being a woman and being a woman is having womanly features, not masculine features, which I think the modeling industry projects — skinny and with no breasts. Being healthy and happy should be the reality."

Do you go vintage shopping when you’re on tour?
"Yes. Everywhere I go, I try and hit a vintage shop to buy something. I think American vintage fashion is best in the world. I’ve been to Paris and Milan and America, for some reason, just piques my interest with fashion. I get the best pieces here."

New American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez and Dave Lingwood of The Buried Life.
Photo: PictureGroup

The sight of blue jumpsuits on stars are few and far between, so when TWO people wore them yesterday, it was quite a fashion moment! When Jennifer Lopez officially announced her new position as American Idol judge yesterday, she wore a blueish-gray jumpsuit covered in sparkles. Meanwhile, Dave Lingwood, one of the four stars of MTV's The Buried Life, wore a blue jumpsuit to the season 2 premiere party for the show in Hollywood last night. As to who wore it better, it's a tight competition. Usually, we'd pick anything sparkly without hesitation, but Dave Lingwood totally edges out Jennifer Lopez because he looks adorable in it. Meanwhile, hers isn't so flattering — especially where it bunches up in the front, if you know what we mean. But what do you think?

+ Which jumpsuit looks best — American Idol's Jennifer Lopez or The Buried Life's Dave?

The second season of The Buried Life premieres Monday, Sept. 27, at 10:30/9:30c.

Gossip Girl's new season premiered this month, and we're just catching up on all of the action now. And by action, we actually mean fashion! One dress that especially caught our eye was the cherry print mini that Leighton Meester's character Blair Waldorf wore in the "Belles du Jour" episode. We've seen this pattern before! Whitney Port of The City wore the same pattern (but in a different style) to the MuchMusic Awards on June 20. The designer of this dress is Moschino, and it's from the spring 2010 collection. As to who looks best, it comes down to the neckline for us — Whitney's strapless style is simply more flattering than Leighton's halter. But what do you think?

+ Who wore this Moschino cherry pattern best — Leighton Meester or Whitney Port?

Snooki: Going to the Late Show With David Letterman and then leaving.
Photo: Getty Images

Jersey Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi had three outfit changes yesterday when she visited the Late Show With David Letterman show in New York. Usually, we don't point out typical Snooki style, but three outfits in one day is just too diva of an act to ignore, and we just love divas. Way to go, girl! First, she arrived wearing something comfortable: a black oversize cardigan over a printed blue, purple, and white top and black leggings tucked into black boots. She changed into a strapless sparkly dress for the show, which looked great on her, though she looked too made up with her berry lip gloss. Then, to leave the studio, Snooki wore a belted khaki dress and accessorized with a silver spike bracelet, Gucci handbag, tan boots, huge silver hoops, and her signature pouf. This last outfit is definitely our favorite. Put away the bikini, Snooki is ready for fall!

+ Which outfit do you like best on Snooki — black sweater, sparkly dress, or khaki dress?

Yes, Glee's got fresh meat! There are two new cast members on the second season of the show — which premiered last night — and this guy right here is one of them. Nashville native Chord Overstreet plays Sam Evans on Glee, a transfer student jock who goes for glee club. (It's also rumored that he will become the love interest for Kurt Hummel, played by the adorable Chris Colfer.) We think the new guy Chord Overstreet is totally on the hot level up there with Mark Salling, Cory Monteith, and the rest of the Glee boys. But, there's one thing we just can't get past — he has Justin Bieber's haircut! We wonder if Chord can toss his locks to the side like only the King can.

+ Who looks better with this haircut — Chord Overstreet or the Original Justin Bieber?

Mark Salling of Glee: With glasses and without.
Photo: PictureGroup

Glee's second season premiered last night, which means we're taking a careful look at the cast members and getting all up in their style business. Like Mark Salling, who plays Noah "Puck" Puckerman on the show. Mark Salling has a thing for glasses. While he doesn't wear them all the time, he has slid them on for every public appearance in Hollywood this week, from a Macy's event last Thursday to a Weezer concert last night. We're not even sure he has real working lenses in those things! But who cares? When glasses make him look this hot, functionality hardly matters.

+ Do you think Glee's Mark Salling looks better with glasses? Or without?

Bow Wow stopped by MTV Style recently, and it was the perfect opportunity to find out the true definition of "fly" from someone who often raps about how fly he is. So, what qualifies as fly? Apparently, not everything. "Flywear is a Gucci sweatsuit, Gucci backpack, Gucci shades," Bow Wow told us, emphasizing his preference for high-fashion labels. What about the ladies? "The flyer you are, the more attention that you're going to attract," he says. "Would I talk to a girl if she was in the club in Ugg boots and a ripped-up something and hair all over the place? No! I'm going to talk to the girl in the dress with the heels on, nice oiled legs, and she looks good. That's who I want to be around." Well, then! Excuse us, we're going to cut this short so we can go oil up our legs. In the meantime, watch the videos below to see Bow Wow explain the definition of fly himself!

+ What does "fly" mean to you? Do you agree with Bow Wow about having oily legs?

Audrina Patridge and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.

Dancing With The Stars premiered last night, and MTV hotties represented big-time! Audrina Patridge of The Hills and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino of Jersey Shore are both on the dance show this season, which is fabulous news because they're bound to wear some amazing costumes. And their premiere outfits did not disappoint! Audrina Patridge and her partner Tony Dovolani took on a yellow theme. Audrina wore a midriff-baring banana-yellow top covered in blue rhinestones and fringe that connected to a matching yellow fringe skirt. She also wore matching yellow bangles!

Meanwhile, The Situation and his partner Karina Smirnoff went for an orange theme. Karina dressed head to toe in the hue, which complemented the orange piping on The Situation's sheer black shirt. However, his shirt was not nearly sheer enough to show off his abs "situation." And something weird happened to the length of The Situation's pants ... they make him look really short! So, who looked best? It's so close! For us, it comes down to the spray tans. Audrina's looks nice and fresh, while — gasp! — The Situation's looks a little pale. But what do you think?

+ Which MTV star look best on DWTS Audrina Patridge or The Situation?

Olivia Palermo on September 19 and Fergie on August 4.

Fergie and Olivia Palermo have the same taste in dresses with hip flaps! Fergie first wore this black dress with sheer sleeves and ochre panels to the launch party for her Avon Outspoken fragrance in Newark, N.J. on August 4, and she finished the look with Fergie Footwear "Joplin" shoes ($79 online). When we first saw this dress on Fergie, we didn't think the dress was that flattering. However, The City's Olivia Palermo proved otherwise when she wore the same dress to the Richard Nicoll fashion show yesterday during London Fashion Week. She finished the look with a chunky gold necklace and Charlotte Olympia heels (the same shoes Katy Perry wore on the cover of British Esquire). So, for this one, we vote Olivia P. But what do you think?

Kristin Cavallari and Carey Mulligan in Prada.
Photo: Getty Images/Saks Fifth Avenue

This was a HUGE week for shoes. First, the Video Music Awards happened, and insane footwear showed up on the white carpet (see our top 16 looks here). Then, we got a full breakdown of Justin Bieber's awesome high-fashion shoes and Christian Siriano's shoes for Payless. And now we've tracked down even more hot footwear! Our favorite shoes of the week have to be Carey Mulligan's Prada peep-toe sandals, which she wore to the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday. These are the same shoes Kristin Cavallari wore in August to a party in California. Sadly, our wallet can't afford these. They cost $990 at SaksFifthAvenue.com. But we can dream, right?!

+ Want to see more hot celebrity shoes? See Taylor Swift in Christian Louboutin, Emma Stone in Stella McCartney, Alexis Bledel in Giuseppe Zanotti, and MANY MORE in our Hot Celebrity Shoes gallery, which is updated weekly.
