Prom is probably the most major of high school moments. The dress, the date, the dance… a night you’ll remember and reminisce over for the rest of your life. So, what could be better than prom? Erm, how about FIVE proms? Because that’s exactly what Kitty Pryde got. The Florida-born, New York based-rapper, who is currently on tour with another fashion favorite Danny Brown, may be young— but she’s got the smart rhymes and sharp delivery of a stage vet. Her first single, “Ok Cupid,” which was recorded on her laptop in her bedroom closet, was named #17 on Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Songs Of 2012, and “Orion’s Belt,” the catchiest of collabs with Riff Raff, is currently sitting at over 1.2 million views on YouTube. But before all the fame, Kitty was just a regular Daytona Beach babe, working at the mall and planning prom outfits. Like we said, the girl’s got experience. “I’ve gone a couple times with girlfriends, once with my gross ex-boyfriend, and most recently with my BFF Grant. He didn’t even become my BFF until I forced him to take me to prom like three days after I met him, but now we’re inseparable, so that’s the magic of prom for you.”
Whew, prom's ALMOST HERE. (Totally necessary to use all-caps for emphasis.) No doubt you've got your dress and shoe game on lock and are making last minute decisions on hair, makeup, and hmmm ... what are we forgetting? That's right, accessories! Prom just isn't prom without a dash of sparkle, some sort of flower somewhere, and the perfect unfussy handbag to accompany your emergency kit. But why not kick it up a notch this year and go for bold statements where your accoutrements are concerned? We've done the work for you on what's on-trend whether you're going for a full accessory look or are just looking to perk up your outfit here and there. Don't forget: this is the one event of the year where you can truly go for it! Thus, read on for inspiration...
If you've been watching TV, take public transportation, or felt the return of Leo DiCaprio in your ether, then you're probably more than aware that The Great Gatsby movie is opening on May 10. Sure to kick off the blockbuster summer movie season with style (and a killer soundtrack to match… hi, Jay-Z), it seems only fitting that Gatsby flapper glamour should align with prom. Always a classy look, it's easy to Carey Mulligan-ize any long black dress or drop-waisted sheath with 1920s-esque accessories. Start with a flapper headband ($25), which gets bonus points for working with absolutely every hair style. Pair it with Gatsby drop chandelier earrings ($23), a crystal swirl brooch ($130), and a fringed facet bracelet ($25) that jangles while you dance. Don't forget to adorn your décolletage with a major rhinestone collar ($100) and a party-ready embellished clutch ($50). GORGE.
Just face it—procrastination got the best of you. Whether you've been too busy planning the school dance, studying up for your exams, or playing in a punk rock band, you've waited too long to pick out a new dress for prom and—gasp—it's mere hours away! Don't freak out just yet—if you have an LBD (little black dress, obvi) and a couple hours before the mall closes, you're good to go. We found ways to dress up even the most standard black frock for the big dance while still staying true to your personal style. We used a classic box-pleated frock from Forever 21 ($25) as a guide, so check out how we transformed it from traditional to prom-ready below!

For the girl that's more focused on getting As than A-lines, we found the PERFECT accessories to show off your intelligent and fashion-savvy side. First off, we needed something to snazz up this ensemble in a snap, so we opted for a super cute gold scalloped collar necklace ($7) that's glam but not too over-the-top. Then, to show off your affinity for literature, we thought this green and gold novel clutch with a beautiful satin interior ($25) was pretty on-point paired with Swarovski crystal-embellished frames ($300). PERF.
Ke$ha matches her nails, necklace, and rings to her gold grill for "Crazy Kids" album art.

Ke$ha has been a seriously busy lady these days, between her MTV Movie Awards cameo, her performances at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and Logo NNNAwards...and not to mention, preparing to premiere her new TV show My Crazy Beautiful Life on April 23. But wait, she's not finished yet! This morning the singer surprised her Animals by dropping the new art for her single "Crazy Kids" upon the world, saying "get. ready. ANIMALS!!!" Oh, you BET we're ready. She's recruited Will.I.Am. for the remix version of the already-addictive track, and not surprisingly, the cover art is equally awesome. She's ditched the blue lipstick, face paint, and glitter of yesteryear for a completely barefaced beauty look. No masacara, no eyeliner...NOTHING. While this shocking lack of makeup might appear to be the next natural step in her "Stepford Ke$ha" evolution, the gold grill, nose ring, manicure, and jewelry still keep it from looking too, y'know, normal. Phew!
Sure, it might look simple, but let's be real here— packing your purse for prom is NO easy task. If you're doing the whole pre-prom photo sesh, fancy dinner, the dance itself, and the after-party, well, chances are you'll need a bunch of stuff to get you through this epic marathon night. So let's talk strategy, shall we?! First of all, the bag you're carrying will most likely be a tiny clutch, which is heavy on the style factor but not so much on the whole practicality thing. If you're still on the hunt for a bag, we're loving this seafoam green envelope clutch from ASOS, the Jillian Minaudiere sparkly number from Club Monaco, and House of Harlow's reptile pouch for their slightly-larger-than-average storage capability and undeniable chicness. But regardless of which clutch you bring, the stuff you take with you will need to be small, posses multitasking capabilities... or better yet, both. Because NOBODY wants to be left stranded on prom night, we've dutifully rounded up our favorite tried-and-true essentials to pack in your purse in case of any beauty emergency. See our must-bring list of products below!
Soooo this happened. "This" being the above image wherein Mr. Justin Bieber, the internationally super-famous pop star, is posing for an Instagram selfie wearing a black ski mask embroidered with Chanel's iconic interlocking C logo. (We'll note that he's also wearing a band jacket which simultaneously reminds us of modern matador Macklemore, 1980s Michael Jackson, and yuletide Biebs himself, but let's keep focus on the mask for now.) From front row at Paris Fashion Week courtesy of Kanye West to a prominent feature in Opening Ceremony's Spring Breakers lookbook, ski masks, for whatever reason, are majorly trending, and it looks as though J.Biebs will not be left in the robber-chic dust.
Quvenzhané Wallis at the 2013 Movie Awards.
There is some incredible accessories game on the 2013 MTV Movie Awards red carpet this year. Glittering, beautiful jewels, yes, but also some more unexpected accoutrements. While a certain cigarette hat may have taken some of the shine on the carpet early on, Beasts of the Southern Wild's Quvenzhané Wallis gave us a bit of a start when we saw that she had broken form and wasn't carrying her signature puppy purse on the carpet. Don't freak out, though, because she WAS still wearing one of her signature Poochie & Co. handbags, only this time, it was a kitty! Q's pink and gray feline matches the hot pink in her outfit, and looks totally purrfect (we had to, come on) with her studded purple high tops.
Selena Gomez is making us want clear accessories.

You guys. A thing happened. More specifically, Selena Gomez tweeted this picture of herself serving duck face (yes, again) wearing a pair of clear glasses, and now, we can't stop daydreaming about clear accessories. I know what you're thinking, "You guys should really maybe take a break from stalking celebrities' Twitter accounts and over-analyzing their wardrobes." Oh, and also, "aren't all glasses clear?" Well, to your first comment, I extend a cordial head nod but shrug off your unsolicited advice because helloooo, that's our bread and butter, YA HEARD?!?? As far as your question, let me clarify. Not only are the 2013 MTV Movie Awards performer's lenses clear, her frames are, too!
Snoop Lion takes a stand against gun violence with MTV and Jewelry For A Cause.
In Snoop Lion's new video for "No Guns Allowed" (featuring Drake and Cori B), he takes the issue of gun violence head on, speaking out against the prevalence of firearms while also depicting (sometimes graphically—watch with caution if you have issues viewing things related to guns) the horrors that they create. In association with Snoop and Jewelry For A Cause, MTV has joined the fight to get illegal guns off the street through the new MTV x Caliber bracelet ($40), which is made of recycled steel and still displays the serial numbers of the illegal guns that they were made from. The limited-edition unisex bracelets are now available for pre-order at caliber.MTV.com, and a portion of the proceeds of each bracelet goes to benefit the Newark Police Department's illegal gun buyback program, which is also where the jewelry originated. That's right, each of the MTV x Caliber bracelets comes from a gun that was surrendered to the buyback program and will help fund the continuing existence and success of the program in the future.
So many people who aren't Justin Timberlake are wearing fedoras lately.

Hold on. People who aren't Justin Timberlake are wearing fedoras? Since when?? It's not often that we put on our Fashion Police hats here at MTV Style. In fact, we generally avoid it. We like to think of this as a positive place, one that embraces style as a means of self-expression. We give most outfits the benefit of the doubt, striving to find ways to defend even the most weirdtresting of ensembles, but we can't be expected to live looking through rose-colored glasses. This is where fedoras come in. Don't get us wrong. We definitely don't hate the Al Capone/Bugsy Malone channeling steez—remember when we LOST IT at first sight of Ryan Gosling's Gangster Squad movie wardrobe? #majordreamboat—we just... don't love it either.
