The red carpet trend game doesn't have to be dominated by the ladies. Dudes follow fashion, too. And evidently, Frank Ocean, Lil Wayne, and Mac Miller have kept an eye on the mixed prints trend thing that's been happening for more than a few seasons now. All three of these guys employed some iteration of the piled on patterns but each in his own variation.

Holy bleach! Holy beach! Blonde and tan was the theme of this year’s VMA red carpet. In the spirit of healthy competition we’re going to play a little three-on-three. I’ve grouped the ladies into two teams (based on their lip color, of course): Team Red and Team Nude. And while Team Nude is without a doubt the most visually striking, I think Team Red’s polished, old Hollywood look may lead them to victory in these Blonde vs. Blonde games. Let’s start with Team Nude:
TEAM NUDE: PINK

Pink looked like, well, herself. Her style hasn’t changed much since she swapped pink locks for blonde ones oh-so many years ago, but that’s cool, she has a thing that works and she’s stickin’ to it. Her smoky eye makeup looks great and her lipstick color was spot on. It’s really hard to find the right lip color for the tan skin/white-blond hair combination without looking freakish, so it’s best to go with some version of your natural lip color with a little gloss. This is exactly what Pink did and it looks great.

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz joined forces tonight on the 2012 VMA stage for an EPIC performance collaboration. And yet, even though that that s*** was seriously cray, we were even more entranced by Lil Tunechi's performance outfit. For one, he did, in fact, appear shirtless, as we had predicted. But the real nugget is that dude's performance steez SMACKS of The Wild Thornberrys. Specifically, Donnie Thornberry, the feral younger brother voiced by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

Stars: They're just like us, right? Well kind of. They keep their wallets in their pockets and their lipstick in their clutches, and they get excited to dress up for big nights in pretty clothes, just like us, yes. They also get custom bejeweled jumpsuits made for them by designers like Pucci (that's right, Rita Ora, we're looking at you, and you. Look. AMAZING.), so, you know, not so much always. Our main girl, Teen Wolf's Holland Roden got to the bottom of both the lavish and the ordinary, getting the low down on what some of our fave celebs--from Miley Cyrus to The Wanted, Nicki Minaj, and many more--were wearing and what they were carrying in their pockets. We also HAVE to mention the beyond adorable moment when Colton Haynes mock-proposed to Holland. Were we seeing a glimpse into the future? Ugh, we hope so (alternately, marry us, Colton?). Speaking of cute, MTV's newest addition, Snooki's son Lorenzo and his mama meatball stayed home from the festivities (although they did send a shoutout to their many fans) but the many of their fellow Jersey Shore-dwellers were on hand to chat it up on the carpet. Holland also got the first confirmation that lovebirds Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are indeed expecting their first child in the coming months! There had been much speculation that the couple was expecting, but no formal confirmation until tonight. The VMAs are the hottest place to announce you're preggers, lest we forget our first introduction to Blue Ivy, so it's no surprise. We wonder who it will be next year...Ok enough letting your mind run wild with speculation. I'll admit it. I was totally floored when Rihanna showed up at yesterday's 2012 VMA rehearsals with REALLY short hair. (Maybe it has a little something to do with the fact that I haven't changed my hairstyle in approximately eight years, but I digress...) Usually a drastic hair alteration isn't something you want to risk debuting at a major public appearance, but we all know Rih is the Queen of IDGAF and can pull off literally anything she wants. Por ejemplo: this here red carpet to stage switcheroo!

Demi Lovato is performing for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show! That's right, Lovatics, the singer/actress/X-Factor judge is hitting the VMA pre-show stage to pump up the crowd with her hit single "Give Your Heart A Break" to kick off the big night. We're thrilled for her to rock out in honor of the Moonman, but we're even MORE excited for what our girl D will WEAR! Since we can't ever be bothered with sitting still to wait for these things, we took a quick scan through the Fall 2012 runways for a few looks (that aren't Topshop) that we'd love to see her wear for her VMA performance debut!

Hot on the heels of announcing her forthcoming album Red and dropping a record-breaking new single, Taylor Swift isn't quite finished sharing awesome news: this morning we learned that the pop star is officially the fifth artist slated to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards! YES. The singer (and bonafide style darling) has had some seriously epic moments both onstage and off in the past, but the superstar is ready to top it ALL come September 6th. Until then, though, let's predict what Taylor's going to be wearing on the big night. Here's a hint: it just might involve the color red....

The Do Something Awards definitely isn't your average awards show. Instead of music, movies, or fashion, this annual event is all about honoring the young people who are making awesome social changes in their communities. But even though the focus isn't on fashion, some of our favorite nominees and presenters turned out in outfits so great, we just HAD to talk about them. So here goes! Lea Michele lead the biggest trend of the night, kicking things off in a cream ruffled Georgio Armani dress with a symmetrical plunging V-neckline and hi-rise hem. But the dress details weren't the only matching part of her look, since the actress paired the frock with a shimmery Fendi clutch, Jenni Kayne metallic sandals, and delicate silver earrings. Haley Reinhart was also feeling the shine last night in a sleeveless minidress, complete with cutouts and snakeskin print inching up the front. Bella Thorne opted for a girlier take on the neutral trend, in a scalloped lace BGBG number coupled with snakeskin ankle boots (plus a new hair color!). Finally, there's Nikki Reed, who has been absolutely RULING on the red carpet lately. She continued her streak of style hits this weekend in a taupe Lela Rose gown. Just like Lea, Nikki also paired her neutral dress with metallic accessories, carrying a silver box clutch and rocking sparkly Jimmy Choo sandals. Sandy shades may have dominated the carpet, but it wasn't the only look- other stars swung in the opposite direction with sleeveless, traffic-stopping bright dresses.

BIG news today, y'all! The world's newest CoverGirl and reigning champion of lady badassery, P!nk, is confirmed to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards! She joins English-Irish boy band One Direction and the incomparable Alicia Keys on the night's performance bill. Unlike the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed boys of 1D, this isn't P!nk's first time at the rodeo. She's performed on the Moonman's stage three times before, and each performance and its corresponding outfit has been more shocking than the last.

Now that the Best Dressed have been picked, the color-coordinating couples have been spotted (nice going, Kristen and Rob!) and the glitter dust has settled on the Young Hollywood tornado that was last night's Teen Choice Awards, we can finally get around to dissecting No Doubt's epic performance. The band marked their long-awaited return after a decade by rocking out to their new single "Settle Down." The performance was obviously awesome, but we still can't get over how Gwen Stefani's live look was almost identical to the outfit she wore in the video. Just like in the clip (which we broke down look-by-look last week), Gwen paired a simple black tank with crazy-awesome patterned pants, complete with a back flap.
