She wants to be where the people are.

She may be a bonafide adult at the age of 27, but whenever I see her sweet lil' face, I just want to pinch her rosy cheeks and call her Cutie Rae Jepsen. Of course, I'm talking about CARLY Rae Jepsen, erstwhile singer of THE song of Summer '12, "Call Me Maybe." Jepsen’s been a brunette since / we first met her / and this is crazy / but now she’s gone / bright ginger, baby! And while she's been sporting the copper shade since June, it was Disney, not the (now-fading *whimper*) summer sunshine that moved her to lighten up.
Sure, the 2013 VMAs may be over, but we still can't stop talking about those nails! In case you missed it, we had a STELLAR spot on the red carpet *brushes shoulders off* where we could shoot some of our favorite celeb's manis up close. While some ladies went for a super simple design (like our MTV.com red carpet host Rachel Antonoff!), others went BALLS. OUT. with some seriously decked-out tips. We have a total soft spot for girls that take their nail game to the next level, so we picked our 5 favorite designs to share with y'all! FYI: Be sure to peep the poll at the end of the post, so you can see the winning design recreated in a step-by-step tutorial right here on MTV Style. Pretty cool, eh?
Rita Ora's nails at the 2013 Video Music Awards on Aug. 25.

Our first favorite mani comes from Ms. Rita Ora. She sported seriously chic nude stiletto tips with just a hint of rhinestones on the pointer and ring finger to match her all-crystal-everything Alexandre Vauthier gown. *picks jaw up off floor*
One Direction admire their fragrance.

Ahh, it's Christmas in August! After a few teasers that left us sufficiently teased, the full ad for One Direction's first fragrance, "Our Moment," was released today and boy, oh boy, do we have a lot to discuss.
There isn’t a whole lot of hair on Miley Cyrus’ head these days, but we gotta give a girl credit where credit is due—she sure has found a ton of ways to wear it. Mussed to the left, tussled to the right, bouffant, fauxhawk, voluminous spikes! I’d imagine that the amount of styling gel that girl goes through in a week could fully submerge a normal-sized human in a bathtub, AMIRITE? (Free business idea: Miley-branded hair goop!?)
But before she went pixie, the VMA nominee/performer was all about the topknots. And now that she’s actively trying to grow her hair out again, she seems to have found a way to pay homage to the style she used to rock on the reg with itty-bitty raver buns! Since admitting to Kelly Osbourne on E!’s Fashion Police that she’s been “secretly tugging on [her hair] every night” and taking growth vitamin supplements, Miley’s been snapped twisting two tiny knots up on top of her head pretty frequently. It’s punky, low-maintenance (not to mention low-gel) and cute without being darling. So will this be her hairstyle of choice for this year’s VMAs?
She can do it big. She can do it long. She can do it whenever or however you want. Obviously, we’re talking about Ciara’s HAIR here, people. Get your minds out of the gutter! *WINK* Ciara’s been blonde for more than a year now, but the “I’m Out” singer is back to (mostly) black and has ditched her bob for some sleek extensions, according to this photo she posted on Instagram. “Going into fall, we wanted something more sultry, but we definitely wanted to keep our rock and roll edge,” said the singer’s stylist, Cesar Ramirez, told Us Magazine.
It's no secret that Selena Gomez has ah-mazing hair. It's long, it's shiny, it can be wavy or straight, it looks sleek both up and down, and we are jealz. Selly, as we know, just kicked off her months-long Stars Dance Tour in Canada and is trying out a new 'do. No, it's not the Rihanna mullet-rattail hyrbid, nor the Beyonce a-line bob: instead of making a drastic chop, Selena has incorporated cornrows into her look. Taking a page out of the ol'James Franco in Spring Breakers book, eh, Selz?
SpringSumma Break forevaaa. She debuted the new style last week and is obv a huge fan: she's sported them at performances, meet-and-greets, and most recently, during a quick trip to New York.
We've been keeping close tabs on Katy Perry's third fragrance, Killer Queen, ever since we first heard about it in May. We saw the print ad, watched the teasers, but we still didn't get the full picture. Why did a white, curly wig hit the floor? What's Katy gonna do with that dagger she stole?! It was filled with dramz, but now, thankfully, we have the full 60-second teaser (and some behind-the-scenes pictures, NBD) to show how it alllll goes down.
Rihanna brings her mullet on a private jet.

As we know by now, Rihanna is QUEEN of changing her hair. There was the long blonde look, the long ice gray 'do, and most recently the curly crop, but this newest look is really different. It's short in the front, long in the back, and straight. Yep. It's a mullet.
This weekend, Rih, as per usual, has been keepin' us apprised of her whereabouts and looks on Instagram, but rather than making a big to-do about her new hair, she just subtly debuted it while wearing Rihanna for River Island on her jet. While Rih usually gives us the full 411 on her shoes, clothing, and new hair shades, she, somehow, omitted that she cut and straightened her hair into a mullet. The first shot of her new hair only shows off the front, which is actually pretty reminiscent of her 2008 "Umbrella"-era 'do—longer, piecey bangs with a shorter, pixie cut in the back. But then (why!!!!!!), we got a peek at the back, and, SURPRISE, there's long, piecey hair still on her head.
We tried Lady Gaga's "Applause" makeup.
Photo: Splash News/MTV
It was only a matter of time until we did this, right? Lady Gaga's "Applause" single art—which spotlights just her face in colorful, smeared face paint—was released in late July, but it's taken us until NOW to try it on ourselves.
Part of that is because she hadn't started wearing it IRL until earlier this week to promote her new single (which she's performing at the 2013 VMAs, BTW). The other part is that this beauty look is very heavy on the "ART" aspect of ARTPOP. It's rare that we stray from the daily makeup mainstays of black liner, a little mascara, and some kind of lip situation (I know, bare bones), so we knew we had to enlist in the help of professionals (a.k.a. the nice folks at the Sephora across the street from our offices) for this one.
artist magician Ashlee Sadler hooked us up, and (along with a Vine and a ton of mental snapshots of hilarious reactions) we took down meticulous notes on what she did. Just in case you want to recreate the look yourself.
