But while we're used to seeing the designer (who's known for his distressed leather, his drapey cuts, and his mostly-black color palette) exploring his style game OFF the catwalk, now he's stepping out of these glamorous shadows and into the...gym? Yesterday WWD reported that Owens is joining forces with Adidas on sneaker collections for both men and women, giving the athletic brand's shoes an unexpected dose of gothy edge.

Just when you've FINALLY convinced yourself that the next collaboration couldn't possibly get more exciting than the last, H&M reveals that the international retail giant is teaming up with Isabel Marant. The French designer is probably best known for her boon of a footwear innovation, the sneaker wedge, but that's only the tip of the iceberg in her fashion arsenal. Marant has a knack for infusing feminine bohemian elements with gritty urban edge and a keen eye for tailoring—the makings of every style savvy tomboy's dream closet.

Between her irresistible get-up-and-dance sound, her constantly evolving style, AND the fact that she's one of the only people we know who can pull off a "YOLO" jacket, Rita Ora already has more than enough bragging rights to make us jealous. But thanks to Phillip Lim, the U.K. pop star has landed yet another. The New York designer has just rolled out a new style of boot called "The ORA," named after none other than Rita herself! Alongside Lana Del Rey, Alexa Chung, and more recently, Carly Rae Jepsen, the "Radioactive" singer has officially joined the coveted ranks of design muse. Not a bad place to be, huh?
Dang, Rihanna certainly is making the most of her trip to Paris! Not only is she doing touristy things like visiting the Eiffel Tower with her BFFs and hittin' up the most badass clubs, but she even found time to squeeze in some SUPER high-fashion moments. I mean, RiRi ALREADY gave us a tour of Coco Chanel's decked-out apartment, and last night she posted pics of her hangin' at Balmain's headquarters with creative director Olivier Rousteing on her Instagram, and we kiiind of can't handle it. In one photo, she sported a skin-tight black frock with a quilted leather jacket, backward hat, pointy white stilettos, and oversized hoop earrings with the caption, "You are the most beautiful spirit, so down to earth and kind! @olivier_rousteing I think I'm in love!!! #Balmain." :') OMG, our cold fashion hearts officially just melted.
We've said it once, and we'll say it again: we love Rihanna's diehard dedication to Instagram. Whenever she posts snaps of her worldly adventures, we get just a teeny, tiny peek into the life of RiRi, and this morning, WHEW, we were hit with the mother lode! During Rihanna's visit in Paris, she stopped by THE legendary Coco Chanel's apartment and posted tons of pics to prove it. Oddly enough, her detailed captions posted alongside the snaps kiiind of turned the whole thing into a mini #CCcertified history lesson, and obvi we cannot get enough. Originally, we were gonna pick the best photos and only post those, but, like, WHY? This is only happens once, so we're balling out, y'all!

Between past partnerships with brands like Lulu Guiness and most recently, Suno, Uniqlo is NO stranger to some seriously awesome collabs. That being said, rarely does fashion news send such a collective gasp throughout the MTV Style HQ as Uniqlo's most recent recruit, Karen Walker. If you read this blog, then you're already well-acquainted with the fact that our love for the New Zealand designer runs deep. We're talking far beyond her consistently adorable printed pants, quirky blouses, and statement sunglasses, into potentially disastrous "recreate her dramatic runway beauty look" territory (*shudder*). Anyway, now that she's teamed up with the Japanese retailer on a wallet-friendly collection of tees, channeling Walker's effortlessly cool vibe has never been easier.

Yesterday afternoon, I zoomed over to Pier 60 all the way over on Manhattan’s westernmost edge in the swampy summer heat to catch Parsons’ 2013 Senior Fashion Show. It was well worth it, not only for the Lobster Roll that I scarfed afterwards at Chelsea Market or the champagne that I managed to cadge after the event but because it’s always super exciting to see what the fash-youngs have up their sleeves.
The excitement was palpable. It feels like graduation but without the stupendous relief. Sure, your parents are there and you’re stoked to see your friends but there’s still this high-pressure live performance to get through. Plus, the finalists have been announced from your class but not the winners so you can sense the competitive energy throughout the room (for the winners, here's the official release). And, well, it’s fashion kids so you know that everyone was stunting in admirable outfits despite the truly prohibitive heat. Ensembles that you know they’ve been planning for several weeks at least.
The thing about a show like this is that it’s the distillation of two years of effort (fast track notwithstanding). The students spend hundreds of hours learning about technique, construction, and how best to narrate their vision and voice in a precise and appealing way. Without getting into the whole commerce vs. poetry thing, the most interesting aspect of watching a young designer at this point is that despite how early it is in their career, when a designer’s great, you can tell. The confidence is unmistakable and their message is complete. It really is that whole, “In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and action” Michelangelo thing. The seeming facility with with they retrieve the message from their brains and cajole fabric to behave in that manner can be breathtaking.

It all started with a t-shirt. Can you believe that something so ordinary is responsible for launching a career as extraordinary as Rebecca Minkoff's?! Well, back in 2001, the designer released her take on the iconic "I Love New York" tee. The top caused a fashion explosion, and 12 years later she has clothing, shoes, and accessories stamped with her name, and is one of the most well-known designers out there today. Now she's teaming up with Diet Coke and Taylor Swift to give another young designer the chance she once had, with the Diet Coke Young Designer Challenge. The competition asks young designers to put their innovative, creative spin on the iconic Diet Coke logo and packaging, for the opportunity to dream up a tee that will then be sold in Target stores all over the country. Not only that, but the winner will also get $10,000 and a chance to meet Taylor Swift herself. Pretty major prize, huh? Last week we chatted with Rebecca herself about the contest, what she'll be looking for, and her own inspiration. Don't think she's giving away any secrets, though—you're going to have to think up a boundary-pushing design all on your own. We know you can do it, though!

Pharrell and Mark McNairy's individual clothing lines are awesome enough on their own, but when these two team up?! You can BET they're going to blow it right out of the ballpark. After all, the design duo has done it in the past with their collaborative Bee Line brand of graphic tees, striped button-ups, and varsity jackets. But now P. and McNairy's worlds of streetwear and menswear are colliding yet again for a slick new collection of BBC goods...and this time, they're going dark. The producer, singer, designer and all-around multi-hyphenate has recruited the McNasty maestro for BBC Black, a capsule of monochromatic pieces that are anything but basic. Melding military fabrics with slouchy-yet-tailored cuts, the line's entirely black colorway means that the focus stays on the clothing's streetwear silhouette, while still keeping things clean and crisp. The Met Gala may have only been Monday night, but in Internet time, that's EONS. Just as we were starting to get over the shock (or perhaps more accurately, the confusion) of seeing our favorite celebs try to make that punk theme work, Beyonce brings the night's festivities back to the forefront of our psyche. Yep, we're thinking about Bey's Givenchy flame-engulfed gown again. Fire-tipped over-the-elbow gloves, thigh-high boots, grommeted belt and all. And why?? Because King Bey just uploaded the original Givenchy sketch to her personal website!
