Rihanna performing in Jeremy Scott's M16 sunglasses on the VMAs.

What began as a typical performance flourish quickly turned into big time fashion drama when Rihanna took to the stage at the 2012 VMAs wearing a one of a kind sample of Jeremy Scott's Spring/Summer 2013 M16 sunglasses, but left without them, having tossed them into the crowd. The designer, who is showing his collection, inspired by the middle east and called "Arab Spring," at New York Fashion Week this Wednesday, took to twitter, confirming that "YES THOSE WERE [his] 24K GOLD M16 SHADES THAT RIHANNA WORE TO OPEN THE VMAs," and then imploring fans for their return by saying, " IF UR DA1 WHO CAUGHT EM PLZ GIVE EM BACK !"

Models strutted their stuff in Google's futuristic glasses at NYFW.
Photo: Getty

The future is nearly here, and we got to take a glimpse into it at Diane Von Furstenberg's Spring 2013 show at New York Fashion Week today. Google has been slowly but surely giving us more information on their mysterious Project Glass for a while now, but there are many questions left unanswered, and for a lot of people who aren't diehard tech junkies, this might be their first look at the project within a larger context. First, a little more info: Google Glass is a device that's worn much like a pair of glasses, and might one day even be able to be worn attached to a pair of prescription shades or sunnies, that functions much like an iPhone or digital camera but is totally hands free. At the end of her runway show today, DVF herself was wearing the device, and could be seen mouthing "I'm filming you" to the lovely people in the front row (which included Sarah Jessica Parker and Bravo's Andy Cohen) as she took her bow accompanied by Google co-founder Sergey Brin. Honestly, though, we're not entirely sure how the glass works, and neither, it seems, are fans of both the glass and DVF, who, when the designer posted photos taken with it to her Google+ page, kept asking about the user interface. Do you talk to it, like Apple's Siri? CAN IT READ YOUR MIND? What we do know is that it takes pretty great photos, and the designer and her staff have been using both the photo and video functions to record on the runway and off, to be released as a short film on Thursday September 13th. Check out more photos seen "thruglass" as DVF's hashtag so poetically puts it, after the jump.

It's no secret that we LOVE Nasty Gal here at MTV Style. From off-kilter back-to-school buys to early trend trys the Cali-based online retailer is a definite go-to around these parts. You can imagine, then, how ECSTATIC we were to be invited to the burgeoning brand's New York Fashion Week party - a celebration for both the Nasty Gal debut collection AND the launch of their print magazine Super Nasty! We EVEN got to chat with founder Sophia Amoruso (our collective idol and girl crush) about all the exciting news. #DEAD

Alexander Wang

Cut-out looks from Alexander Wang's Spring 2013 New York Fashion Week show.

Alexander Wang is a notorious boundary-pusher in fashion and consumate showman. Remember his last New York Fashion Week presentation? Not only did he have top models like Gisele Bündchen and one-time House of Style host Shalom Harlow closing out the show, but he also showcased a new collection of clothes that dared to take materials to places they don't often go (i.e. leather bubble vests, mesh turtlenecks that extend up to the nose, etc.). You'd think there was no way to top a show as shockingly austere or as entertaining. And then you watch this Spring 2013 showing. WOW.

Rachel Antonoff

There’s nothing like summer camp as a kid (I mean, the LiLo Parent Trap remake? Salute Your Shorts? Pick your poison), so we could hardly hold back our giddiness walking through Rachel Antonoff’s Spring 2013 New York Fashion Week presentation. Amid a winding path of astroturf and hedges, models played badminton, caught pretend butterflies, and lounged with picnic baskets in the designer’s collection of striped seersucker skirts, pleated shorts and breezy blouses. Transluscent oxfords and sandals, patterned visors and white, geometric nails completed the looks, all of which could head straight for the country club.

Mara Hoffman

We're BIG fans of Mara Hoffman at MTV Style. The bright colors (even in the gloomier months!), the printed realness, the brain-petting symmetry - it's all totally our steez. And with her bringing in a varied crowd from Queen B Lil Kim, to her BFF Pamela Love, to our bb gurl Holland Roden, her designs are clearly widely appreciated. Naturally, her New York Fashion Week shows are hotly anticipated events for our entire staff. This season, with its luxe cording appliques, flirty cuts, and fresh Polynesian inspiration, was no exception. PLUS, there were Ukelele girls!

Charlotte Ronson

Summer as we know it this year may be slowly slipping away, but I know, come February, after Punxsutawney Phil predicts six more weeks of winter, I'll be shaking my fists, burning my tights, and daydreaming about this Spring 2013 Charlotte Ronson collection. This season for Ronson reads like a New York Fashion Week love letter to breezy beach afternoons and downtown summer nights. And when you shared a womb with a world-class DJ (also Roc-A-Fella Records' first rock act *dusts shoulders off*), your twin hooks you up with the perfect soundtrack to your designs. Samantha Ronson put together a careful playlist of tracks that use a majority breathy, ethereal vocals to channel the breezy summer air vibes of her twin Charlotte's pale color palette and floaty fabrics, but also driving baselines and nostalgic step-clap rhythm sections to complement the nods to classic bad girls (think Pink Ladies).

Cushnie et Ochs, phone

The HTC One phone by Cushnie et Ochs.
Photo: Milk Studios Twitter

New York duo Cushnie et Ochs already have their trademark directional designs firmly planted in the closets of fashion industry insiders and young Hollywood alike (Olivia Wilde, Kristen Stewart and Teresa Palmer, we're looking at you!). Now Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs have teamed up with HTC on a new custom smartphone inspired by the label's Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Created in conjunction with Milk MADE (the creative editorial arm of Milk Studios), the HTC One phone by Cushnie et Ochs arrives just in time for this season's shows and naturally comes pre-loaded with all sorts of fashion-y extras and apps. The minimalist style has a sleek black and white color palette and matching earbuds, making it the ultimate complement to whatever outfit you're wearing. Bottom line: this is a new kind of accessory that's stylish on the inside AND out.

Katie Gallagher

Katie Gallagher.
Photo: Petteri Lamula

From the first time I laid my bug eyes on designer Katie Gallagher’s glam, goth-y designs, I was obsessed/convinced Gallagher put some sort of sartorial spell on me. Which is fitting, considering her witchy designs remind me of Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams. See: Flowing floor-length black dresses-meets-Sarah Jessica Parker’s other (Carrie Bradshaw, who?) massively-underrated sartorial slayer as the chic, flirty witch in the '90s CLASSIC, Hocus Pocus. But Gallagher is also fearless when it comes to a little leather and a little skin—albeit perpetually adding her own twisted twist (yeah, I went there) with severe angles and fun fabrics. Gallagher recently invited me to her Chinatown apartment-cum-studio (NBD), for which I was also obsessed. Apartment highlights include her bouquet of roses rubber rats hanging from a wall, a license plate reading “FUNERAL," and, the most amazing fluffy oversized creature I have ever seen: her cat, Sveater. (Dear Katie, please let me babysit/kidnap that furry nugget!) But Sveater was aaaalmost upstaged when I took a look at Gallagher’s latest collection, which will be showing next week at New York Fashion Week. If you see me laying in a coma behind a sea of models, don’t fret: I did it all for my <3 of fashion. Alas, here’s Katie Gallagher’s favorite fashion-y things!

The Blonds Sport VFiles

Looks from the The Blonds x VFiles collection.
Photo: Via VFiles

Let's talk about The Blonds for a hot second. We're totally ob-sessed with their over-the-top glam, embellished, rhinestone-encrusted, spiked bustier and mini skirt EVERYTHING, but when it comes down to it, we'll probably never, ever get ours hands on that glittery goodness. *sobs* Unfortunately those runway-ready looks are reserved for celebs like Kat Graham and Katy Perry, and us Normie McNormiesons are stuck with that ol' ready-to-wear stuff. But by some crazy stroke of luck, The Blonds collabed with VFiles (you know, the peeps behind V Magazine) and created a collection of *gasp* sportswear that we can totally don on a daily basis. YUS.
