Nicholas Kirkwood's spring collection at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City.

To say we're bananas about shoes is an understatement. Give us sky-high platforms, wooden clod-hoppers, sparkle oxfords, or neon yellow heel warriors and we're beaming with everlasting joy. Give us a pair designed by Nicholas Kirkwood, however, and we're gone. Finito. Passed out under the table. You guys, Nicholas Kirkwood's heels, nay works of art, are so bazonkers amazing, we need to break out the smelling salts when a new collection debuts. And once you see them in person and/or feel their gloriousness on your feet—like we did last night at Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan (*squee*)—their beauty becomes three-dimensional yet still totally unreal. Mr. Kirkwood himself was in attendance from his native Britain to debut the spring collection, and from the lines of well-heeled ladies waiting to get a moment of his time to the oohing and ahhhing over a pair of scribbled flower color block platforms, we knew we died and went to shoe heaven.

bcbg max azria fall 2012

Looks from the BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 New York Fashion Week show.
Photo: Getty Images

You know you're about to be swept up in the consuming maelstrom that is New York Fashion Week when you enter the tents to see the BCBG Max Azria show. Not only does the Hollywood-friendly label typically kick off Fashion Week, it's always filled to capacity and boppin' with enough front row lovelies to keep the cameras flashing. For Max Azria's fall 2012 show, in addition to a bevy of bloggers including The Man Repeller (aka Leandra Medine) and The Glamourai (also known as Kelly Framel), Run's House alum Angela Simmons vamped it up in a black dress and metal harness, and Maria Menounos and Food Network fave Giada De Laurentis gabbed in blue BCBG dresses. And what about the fashion, you ask? It was dark, color-blocked, and incredibly furry.

steven alan fall 2012 new york fashion week

Looks from the Steven Alan Fall 2012 show at New York Fashion Week.

Do you hear heels clacking, repressed yawns, and banshee screams coming from the distant caverns of our closets? It's the sound of New York Fashion Week, everyone! And we're elated to kick things off with one of our favorite indie labels, Steven Alan, which was presented bright and early this morning at Pier 59 Studios along the Hudson River in Manhattan. The mood was chipper, the coffee plentiful, and everything in this Mexican road trip-inspired collection was begging to jump into our wardrobes immediately. Steven Alan started his business as a super cool downtown retail shop selling other designer wares, but he soon morphed into a designer himself, creating one of the most wearable collections for both men and women that mixes casual classics with aloof cosmopolitan flair. For fall 2012, Alan is all about driving along a dusty road blasting vintage Colombian Cumbia music while your red skirt whips around in the breeze. Also, there are fedoras, pops of red, and battered leather handbags aplenty.

Michelle Williams at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for Boy. by Band of Outsiders.
Photo: Courtesy of Band of Outsiders

We are smitten with two very specific things: Boy. by Band of Outsiders and Michelle Williams. Put the two together for spring 2012, and we're in full body shutdown mode. As we're about to fall down the magical rabbit hole that is New York Fashion Week starting, oh, tomorrow (yes, it's already here, folks!), we're thrilled that it all kicks off with this new campaign from the Los Angeles-based clothing line. Band of Outsiders always chooses someone special to front its latest collection (like Rupert Grint and Tom Felton or Kirsten Dunst), and it was only a matter of time before Ms. Williams made her way onto the brand's vintage Polaroid film. Fitting together like a match made in diffused, early '60s Jean Seberg-esque heaven, we're completely in love with everything about this. Also, OMG, TOILE.

christian louboutin capsule bag

Christian Louboutin's "Pilule" bag from his new Capsule Collection.
Photo: Christian Louboutin on Facebook

When it comes to shoes, Christian Louboutin is king. His sky-high confections regularly trod Hollywood red carpets, not to mention tip out fashion editors worldwide. Here in New York, it's impossible to stroll past either of his uptown or downtown boutiques without stopping to peek at the dazzling creations in the window (nor the droves of ladies inside trying them on). And after 20 glorious years in the business, he is launching a Capsule Collection of handbags. Yes, aside from designing beautifully made shoes, often with a touch of whimsy (who can forget those insane paw and hoof shoes he created last year?), Louboutin also constructs jaw-dropping handbags that toe the line between nighttime chic and flamboyant statement. With this new Capsule Collection he has topped himself by introducing a super fun and totally meta "Pilule" bag, which is in the shape of an actual capsule.

Karl Lagerfeld on the runway of the Chanel Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture show.
Photo: Getty Images

Karl Lagerfeld likes to speak his mind. The Chanel designer and Fendi creative director (not to mention photographer, book collector, music aficionado, and kitten lover) has been doing a stint as global guest editor of Metro newspapers, and he had a few things on his mind. As you are probably well aware, we love ourselves some KL here at MTV Style. The man is an icon and multifaceted designer of numerous lines—including his own—as well as remaining a rabid consumer of new music. He never seems to tire of the latest and greatest female artists, either, and has championed everyone from muse Florence Welch to, most recently, Azealia Banks. Well, when he was recently asked by a staff member at Metro what he thought about Lana Del Rey he had some rather interesting things to say, and he didn't stop there. Oh no, as our opinionated Uncle Karl is wont to do, he went ahead and threw in his thoughts on Adele and M.I.A. too.

nicki minaj grammy promos

Nicki Minaj wearing Jeremy Scott in two Grammy Awards promotional videos.
Photo: Courtesy of the Grammy Awards

All we have to say is let the love fest between Nicki Minaj and Jeremy Scott continue! As you know, Miss M is up for wearing anything and everything that falls under the craytastic umbrella, and Señor Scott is the king of the wildest and most magical bazonkerpalooza outfits we've ever seen so, naturally, they're a match made in pink leather heaven. (Remember that purple and orange striped Jeremy Scott cutout dress she wore in Glamour magazine? Yeah, we're still coveting that beaute.) Well, the two have joined fantasy fashion forces again in the form of Nicki M wearing not one, not two, but THREE Jeremy Scott pieces for a commercial with LL Cool J and a nominee interview video both in celebration of the upcoming Grammy Awards which are just two weeks away. Sporting what we'd like to call Happy Cowgirl Playtime Fiesta Fracas Wear, Minaj dons both a red leather bustier with never-ending tassels and a double-layered pink leather cowgirl bra-slash-holster hybrid with pastel pink lips and mile-long lashes. Great Scott, we are so into this!

alberta ferretti macys

Sketches from the Alberta Ferretti for Impulse Only at Macy's collection.
Photo: Courtesy of Macy's

When you think about it, we're living in pretty spectacular times in terms of being able to buy designer clothing at affordable prices. With all of the capsule lines and designer-slash-department-store collaborations happening, pining for that runway look doesn't seem so soul-crushing. One of the leaders in designer diffusion lines is Macy's, and its Impulse collection. The department store has already paired with Karl Lagerfeld and Giambattista Valli, and the results were wearable, well-received, wallet-friendly, and very much in line with the designers' usual aesthetics. Macy's recently announced that the next Impulse designer will be Alberta Ferretti, who is known for her gorgeous dresses and feminine silhouettes. From what we've seen of the sketches thus far, these pieces are going to touch upon Ferretti's Italian roots, hint at the sunny Amalfi coast, and also probably cause a total fashion frenzy.

From left: Rooney Mara attends "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" press conference and Japanese premiere in Tokyo.
Photo: Getty Images

Rooney Mara is having a moment. Although it's not difficult to fathom her current popularity in Hollywood (and throughout the world) as a result of her dynamic, Oscar-nominated turn in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we all knew this was coming when she was first cast in the film. But even though a rising starlet is suddenly in fashion doesn't mean she's necessarily going to kill it in actual fashion, so we've waited for rampant red carpet trampling to see what kind of style she would slay. Well, we're happy to report she hasn't disappointed! Aside from making our Top Girls to Watch in 2012 list, Miss Mara has been turning it OUT on the low-pile carpets in everything from cutout dresses to darker designer ensembles for her mega press tour. (She's already graced the cover of Vogue too.) But we've noticed that while modern and well-structured, most of RM's color palette veers on the more monochromatic side. Call it dour, sleek, or utterly devoid of color and happiness, but we've been craving a bit of brightness for the fictional Lisbeth Salander. Well, it seems as if she was saving her LIGHT moment for Japan.

Kristen Stewart Karl Lagerfeld

Kristen Stewart and Karl Lagerfeld in Paris on Jan. 30.
Photo: Splash News

OK, we know this is the grainiest photo of all time, but what's happening here is SO amazing we couldn't not talk about it—Karl Lagerfeld is totally having a cuter-than-cute intimate moment with Kristen Stewart during a photo shoot in Paris. *squee* The twosome was spotted all over The City of Lights with photographer Mario Testino (who we're pretttyyy sure is on the left wearing glasses and a scarf if you squint hard enough) shooting a fash spread for Vanity Fair. We are SO excited to see how this turns out, and judging by the outfit K Stew is wearing, this is going to be anything but the tomboy-girl-next-door look we're used to seeing. The Twilight star is rocking an out-of-this-world ruffled neck and shoulder gown paired with a 1940s-inspired pin-curl updo. She's wearing no accessories (I mean, with THAT dress, how could you?) except for a sparkly silver star in her hair. From this eagle-eye view, it's hard to tell what makeup K Stew is sporting, but we DO see a dark, dramatic eye and soft, nude lip.
