Last week Selena Gomez released her first UH-MAZING 2011 EMA hosting promo in which she sings (and raps!) with her gangster alter ego. We could not get enough of Ms. Gomez and her new bad self, and luckily some extra behind-the-scenes footage landed right into our laps! *high five* Selena takes us backstage to show us how she picked out her outfit, what she likes most about her transformed look, and what she hopes she can bring to the 2011 EMA show! Let's take a peek and the highlights (and watch both videos!) below.

Amanda Seyfried, Justin Timberlake, and Olivia Wilde arrive at the premiere of "In Time" in Los Angeles.
Photo: WireImage

We're always excited to see Justin Timberlake, be it on a red carpet, at a fashion show, or in candid shots we might or might not search for on photo service websites on a regular basis. We've been looking forward to his latest turn as a seasoned ac-TOR in the sci-fi thriller In Time, in which he costars with Amanda Seyfried (who plays his love interest) and Olivia Wilde (who plays HIS MOM). Before we get into the strangeness of this casting choice, can we just say that we really miss Justin The Singer? We love that he's fluffing out his wings of greatness (and wish he were a regular on SNL), but we just want a little of his onstage sexy back, y'know? Still, In Time premiered in L.A. and everyone looked all styled-out and gorgeous and—HOLD UP, JUSTIN'S RAPPING IN A NEW VIDEO????

Selene Gomez 2011 EMA

In case you didn't hear THE best news of all time, Selena Gomez is hosting the 2011 EMA, and we could NOT be more excited. She's so adorable and cute and fashion-y we just want to NOM NOM NOM eat her right up! Today Selena's first hosting promo was released, and it, um, BLEW US AWAY. Not only did we peep Ms. Gomez in her typically cute attire, but she also completely transformed herself into a badass Latina gangsta rapper! She throws down some lyrics about herself, with herself, in a song that will never, ever leave your head. (Seriously, this thing is catchy. You've been warned.) I KNOW, I KNOW, it all sounds crazy confusing, but trust us on this—it's uh-mazing.

Cosplayers looking wild DORBZ at New York Comic Con 2011.
Photo: MTV

Not going to lie to you guys, I love Con. Granted, I pronounce it just like that, "Con," and folks instantly think I'm referring to "Cannes," and I let them because it's fancy and hilarious, but I go to New York Comic Con every year. And I even trek over to the big 'un in San Diego despite it having grown to nigh-unmanageable MONSTER proportions in the last, ahem, five or so years I've gone.

ANYBALLS, as you know this past weekend was NYCC (Right? Because you frequent all branches of our vast and impressive MTV digital home tree like MTV Geek), so I dragged my Jeffrey Campbell Lita-shod self way west to the Javits Center to shoot this little video guide to cosplay. And also because, uuuuum, maybe I heard Chad Michael Murray was going to be there to promote his new comic on Archaia and the only thing keeping us apart is the fact that he hasn't seen me reenact his entire One Tree Hill arc in person. TRUE STORY.

So cosplay is a portmanteau of costumes and role-play and is awesome because it's the umbrella term under which other fantastic things like Furries, LARP (live action role-playing; they have a whole association with a LARPA website that looks crazy Geocities—NO SHOTS), and Yiffing live. We took a camera on the convention floor to check out all the action AND even got an awesome Halloween costume idea because (where my Game of Thrones fans at???) we saw a slew of Daenerys Targaryens, which is easier to put together than you'd think. And for all you NON-NERDS, she is a beautiful blonde princess who is married to a great-big burly horse thief KING and they have a lot of sex—and she's got these powers that have to do with dragons and eats this heart this one time and OBVI I have said too much. Don't judge me.

OMG, this post is already so long BUT the final (promise) thing I did want to mention is that we deliberately picked people who MADE their costumes. As in with glue guns, sewing machines (yes even the lovely ladies in Supergirl stereo), and HEART. Each ensemble took many months of TOILING so we didn't choose anyone with store-bought situations. WE HAVE FASH STANDARDS.

David Bowie Creators Project

The Creators Project is a festival celebrating (and bringing together) artists and musicians to create unprecedented collaborative projects intended to blow your mind. Curated by the feisty folks over at Vice, the festival is in its second year and recently wrapped up with a nonstop two-day party on the banks of Brooklyn in NYC. We caught everything from performances by Florence + The Machine and French digital duo Justice—each playing under two separate bridges—as well as an insane cast of 40 young women performing along with Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O in the astonishing Stop the Virgens rock opera. Also? We got some INSANE makeup tips from David Bowie.

Carey Mulligan and Anna Wintour

Stop the fashion presses! The hosts of the magical Met Ball for spring 2012 have been announced! As you might already know, this annual event is organized by both the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Anna Wintour, editor in chief of (c'mon) Vogue, and brings together anyone and everyone associated with fashion (we're talking every designer and ingenue from here to Timbuktu). We like to call it Fashion Prom. Last year was a somewhat somber homage to the late Alexander McQueen, but this year seems to be all about Gatsby GLAMOUR. Wintour has chosen none other than the star of the upcoming Baz Luhrmann-directed version of The Great Gatsby (currently filming in Australia), Carey Mulligan, as the co-chair of the event. Luhrmann will serve as the creative consult of the actual exhibit, which is a retrospective of both the designs of Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia PRADA. Um, FAINTING COUCH please.

Rachel Zoe, Lauren Conrad, and Lo Bosworth

Even though it's almost winter and sunshine is now on limited reserve, we'd like to make a declaration: POLO should make a comeback. Yes, the sunny summer sport. There's something so winsome and elegant about a bunch of ladies sipping champers while wearing their prettiest dresses (and sometimes hats...hi, Rachel Zoe) as hunky men on horses whack a ball around pristine green grass. Popular in the 1920s and '30s—a decade that's poised for a comeback come spring 2012—the sport has been making headlines again thanks to events like the recent Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Los Angeles, which brought a bevy of fine fillies to the Will Rogers State Historic Park in the Pacific Palisades. Everyone from the aforementioned Zoe to The Hills alumni, Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth, turned out in the finest of feminine frippery.

Ariel Winter at the 2011 Emmy Awards.
Photo: Getty Images

The Emmys were last night. A grip of scarlet, floor-length gowns traversed the red carpet. Hair ranged from updo to beach waves. Also, purple was a thing, and we were maybe confusled and beweirdtrested by Gwyneth Paltrow's Pucci dress that was both gorgeous and inappropriate. We did not LOVE Amy Poehler's dress but loved absolutely everything else about her. Coach Taylor won an award because he deserved one for being THE BEST (CLEAR EYES, FULL HEARTS, CAN'T LOSE!), and Modern Family swept the comedy category. On the topic of Modern Family, here's where things get delicate and dicey for us.

First of all, the show is great. The characters are highly developed and believable, and we love the underdog, smarty-pants awesomeness of Alex Dunphy. We maybe totally relate to not being the cute one or, more appropriately, the one who doesn't get cute until college and then MAKING MINCEMEAT out of all the girls who developed early and, let's face it, peaked too early too. So it's hard to make a point of not liking Ariel Winter's dress from last night. Especially since, we get it, it's "grown up" and supposed to be like, "Oh snap, who is this stunning butterfly in place of this squirmy, hairy grub-looking thing that was RIGHT HERE next to this gnarly dried up, discarded pupa husk...," but instead it makes us feel uncomfortable. We think this dress is inappropriate. There's too much conspicuous boobage. Too much form-fittingness. Which sucks because the dress itself is pretty and frilly, and she does honestly look otherwise beautiful.

Not to sound like the wizened old hag that I absolutely empirically am BUT I just feel like a dress for a 13-year-old girl (woman? IDK lady? GAH) should be more playful. Especially when the contrast between having braces and a peekaboo cutaway at the mamm glands makes me want to blind every perv-bot dude in the ogling radius. Ariel, you're frickin' amazing, now please go put on a sweater. Or a wrap. Or some chain mail. Thank you.

Like most of the fash-hungry population, we here at MTV Style just LOVE ourselves a good awards show. The sparkle of every sequin and bead, the sheen of every satin and silk—we want it all. From the red carpet to the stage to the pretaped vignettes, the starlets of tonight's 2011 Emmy Awards pulled out all the stops, and so compelled were we by the parade of scintillating beauties that we HAD TO note our top 10 dresses from the night.

Lea Michele stunned on the red carpet in a bright red floor-length Marchesa gown. She kept things simple with natural makeup and glossy, straight hair, left down. All the better to showcase the drama of the dress's ruffled shoulder embellishments and sweeping open back.

Nina Dobrev, Adrianne Palicki, and Lea Michele at the 63rd Emmy Awards.
Photo: Getty Images

Forgive us if words run together for a bit. We're just in such a state of paralyzing shock right now. It's just so rare that (A) a slew of starlets decide to swaddle themselves in the same color at the same event and (B) that a mere 10 minutes into an award ceremony's preshow red carpet coverage, we've already LOCKED down a trend. *wipes away a single happy tear* A resounding thank you to the ladies in red at the 2011 Emmy Awards from the bottom of our hearts for not only making our lives a little bit easier, but also a lot more beautiful.

While there's always that initial fear of whether one should wear red on the red carpet, Nina Dobrev threw caution to the wind, and it WORKED. The Vampire Diaries actress absolutely stunned in this drop-dead strapless scarlet Donna Karan with a voluminous fishtail that is SO bodycon it looks straight-up sewn onto her impossibly hourglass physique. Adrianne Palicki also wore a fire-engine-colored frock, but hers was a satin sweetheart neckline with a halter and seductive thigh-high slit by Dolce & Gabbana. Lea Michele's floor-length Marchesa with its ruched shoulder embellishments and sweeping open back was a vision of Hollywood glamour. SEVERAL other vixens dared to wear red on the red carpet, including Kate Winslet, Sarah Hyland, and Sofia Vergara. See the rest of the ladies in red after the jump!

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
