met gala 2013

Guess who's taking these celebs to the 2013 Met Gala?!
Photo: Getty Images

Considering the time of year, the prep work, and the formality of it all, it's not really that surprising that people refer to the annual Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum as the fashion world's version of prom. While both events have a theme (we hear this year's, "Punk: Chaos to Couture," is, uh, causing attendees some wardrobe struggles), let's be real— the high concentration of really talented, really famous, and really good looking people walking those Met steps on Monday night ensures that you won't get THIS party confused with your average school dance. We already told you about how you can get in on the action from home, whether it's buying "Chaos and Couture"-inspired clothing or splurging on the celebs' dresses themselves, but what we really want to know is, who's taking who?! There might not be adorable promposals this time around, but many of the designers HAVE picked their celebrity dates for the night. Not surprisingly, Dior is bringing the brand's new face and recently crowned Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence to the fete.

Imagine if you could buy Solange's 2012 Met Gala dress?
Photo: Getty

Moda Operandi, how do you keep making our 2013 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art dreams come true? First there was the PUNK: Chaos to Couture inspired designer capsule collection, and now the runway-to-retail innovator is taking it one step further: come May 7th, you'll actually be able to buy the dresses right off of the Met Gala red carpet. Details are limited, but Popsugar reports that the designers involved in the collab include Anthony Vaccarello, Wes Gordon, Balmain, Nina Ricci, and maybe more. Each of the designers worked alongside Moda Operandi's Indre Rockefeller, who serves as Director of Ready-To-Wear for the site, on the sale, and although there is still no word as to which celebs will be wearing the get-em-now gowns, with designers like those we can only surmise that they'll be major.

Frank Ocean, Miguel, Justin Timberlake Time 100

Frank Ocean, Miguel, and Justin Timberlake at the Time 100 celebration.
Photo: Getty

This year's Time 100 list of the most influential people of the year felt a little bit like it was made with input from our very own brains. Some of our favorite musicians, politicians, and thinkers were honored, and they turned out in their very best at Time's celebration last night. In particular, some VERY well-dressed gentlemen stood out. Frank Ocean left his usual sneakers at home in exchange for a totally traditional tuxedo and *gasp* dress shoes. Can you believe it? We're into it. Meanwhile, Miguel went in the opposite direction, bringing a splash of bright blue to the otherwise pretty classic red carpet in black pants and a graphic, mirror print button-down. He accessorized the springtime look with black chelsea boots and assorted rings. Back on his suit and tie...well, you know, Justin Timberlake took Frank's lead in a classic tux with a crosshatch patterned jacket that we would be willing to bet is by his friend Tom Ford. Justin looked positively rakish with his hair parted to the side and falling in front of his face just a little bit. Handsome gentlemen, all. *Sigh*

Katy Perry Smurfs 2

Katy Perry at 'The Smurfs 2' photocall in Cancun, Mexico on April 22.

If there's one thing Katy Perry loves, it's a themed outfit, y'all. Yesterday, KP visited Cancun, Mexico (JEALS!) to promote her new Smurfs 2 film sporting, YEP, head-to-toe blue. The most amazing part, though, is that she wore THREE different (and equally-amazing!) azure ensembles in one day. WHEW. You might remember Katy's very literal Smurfs outfit homage from a couple years ago, but this time around she went for a more demure (but still on-theme!) approach. She kicked off the day in a GORGE sheer blue lace and white Monique Lhuillier spring 2013 frock paired with pointy metallic Jimmy Choo pumps and a skinny black belt. She risked the matchy-matchy accessories look, but we LOVE how it turned out!

Madonna's Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra and MTV VMA dress will both be on display this week.

There's a good chance that if you're playing one of those word association games and someone says "Madonna," your first, or maybe second, or third, but definitely no more than that, will be "cone bra." The singer's most iconic look, the Jean Paul Gaultier lingerie item was a staple of Madonna's 1990 Blond Ambition Tour, and now thanks to Macy's and Madge herself, you can see it in real life for a super-limited time. Madonna is already a staple at Macy's stores with her Material Girl collection, but on Thursday, April 25th, the star is lending the cone bra and seven other iconic Madonna pieces to the store's Los Angeles Century City location for a two hour exhibition. And it's not just the cone bra, trust. With the help of her longtime stylist Arianne Phillips, Madonna's personally selected the items on display, and there are some MAY-JOR moments represented.

Katy Perry Mariah Carey Diddy Easter Bunny

Every time Easter rolls around, we're always sure to spot celebs decked out in their Sunday best—you know, the usual floral-printed frock or pastel-colored blazer. This year, though, we were caught a little off-guard by some of our favorite musicians' Easter get-ups as they took a very literal stylistic approach to the holiday. Long story short, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry and Diddy all dressed up as Easter Bunnies. Like, actual rabbits. With ears. And white fur. Don't believe us? Well, Mariah posted a Twitpic of herself and hubby Nick Cannon with the caption, "Happy Easter dahhlings...I finally caught the Easter bunny." She sported a strapless ombre pink dress with nude heels, a diamond necklace, square shades and, of course, some bunny ears! Nick went all-out in his rabbit costume, which featured floppy ears, a bunny nose and teeth, a purple blazer with blue and green lapels, and over-sized white gloves. So. Amazing.

Selena Gomez SXSW

Yes, Selena Gomez is still promoting her Spring Breakers film AND still continuing to kill it in the sartorial department. See: Sel at SXSW in Austin the past couple of days. Like, is it hot in here or is it just Ms. Gomez's sizzling summery ensembles? *fans self* She opted for two super bold outfits that feature—GASP—a little flash of the belly (and we ain't mad at that!). On Monday, she sported a tailored turquoise Cushnie et Ochs frock with cut-outs around the shoulders and stomach. The modest knee-length hem and sleeves make this look grown-up but still edgy, which we LOVE. She finished the look with pointy nude Giuseppe Zanotti pumps and diamond-shaped drop earrings. For her beauty look, she tossed her gorge waves back into a high ponytail, but left some pieces down in the front for a softer feel. Her smoky-eye-and-nude-lip combo knocked it out of the park, AND she even matched her nails to her shoes. PERF.

Katy Perry Johny Mayer Pre-Grammy Party

Katy Perry and John Mayer at the Pre-Grammy Gala in L.A. on Feb. 9.
Photo: Getty Images

All together now: Awwwww! Last night at the Pre-Grammy Gala in L.A., cuter-than-cute couple Katy Perry and John Mayer matched in super fancy all-white ensembles, which we LOVE. KP wore a Rafael Cennamo fall 2013 gown, which was dripping in pearls, beads, and other incredibly ornate details, while John went for a more classic white tuxedo jacket, white top, and black trouser outfit. We're obsessed with his hand-tied bow tie and the gold button detailing on his shirt. Katy didn't need many accessories because, um, haiiii #pearlsgalore, but she sported pearl (duh) earrings and a giant cocktail ring to finish the look. For her beauty game, she wore a soft smokey eye with a shiny mauve lip and loose waves. PERF.

Katy Perry performing at the Kids Inaugural Concert, and then at the inauguration ceremony.
Photo: Getty

We're so into the way Katy Perry stans for President Obama. There are many celebs who will ride for our newly sworn-in Commander-In-Chief, but are any of them rocking custom latex ballot dresses and attending EVERY event of the inauguration? No, just Katy. Having closely followed her time on the president's campaign trail we were eagerly awaiting Katy's inaugural weekend looks, and were CRUSHED when more of them weren't easily accessible to us online. Luckily, Vogue had our back, and linked up with Katy to publish her Inauguration weekend photo diary. Not only does it let us see candid shots of her custom stars and stripes bustier (which she designed HERSELF, along with stylist extraordinaire Johnny Wujek), but also her amazing Rodarte Inauguration ceremony coat, Oscar De La Renta performance dress, Dolce & Gabbana White House After-Party CAPE, AND her custom Kimmie Kyees patriotic nails. Ah-May-Zing. The photos really do make us feel like an insider, and of course possess that signature KP humor.

Lady Gaga Inauguration Ball

Lady Gaga with Terry Richardson at the inaugural ball on Jan. 22.
Photo: Terry Richardson's Instagram

Even though last night's inaugural ball for President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. was closed off to the press, it didn't stop photographer/celeb bestie Terry Richardson from documenting ALL the haps behind the scenes. Today he posted an Instagram photo of himself and Lady Gaga after her performance with Tony Bennett, and OMG—we need to discuss her dress ASAP. She took the whole "ball" theme verryyy literally with a white gown covered in tiny little spheres that accented the shoulders and hips. The dress also featured sheer paneling with lace-up detail across the bodice and arms. The part you can't see, though, is just HOW huge her dress is. Other full-length photos show layers upon layers of floor-grazing tulle, which actually created a train no matter WHICH way she walked. *bows down*
