Kenzo

The shows may be all about the clothes, but here at MTV Style, they're also all about the music. The models are only on the catwalk for a few minutes, but at the best shows, the audience is not only transported by the looks they're watching strut up and down the runway, but also by the overall experience that's created. The music chosen to showcase the collection says a lot about the overall philosophy behind it, and so it's without a doubt one of the most important aspects of the whole show. For their Fall/Winter 2013 menswear show at Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy, Kenzo complemented their "Jungle in the Sky" theme with an ethereal yet hard-hitting mix from Jamie xx. Building from sparkly chimes and smooth sax into minimalist percussion and then a dreamy piano and synth melody, the 9 minute mix combines elements of ambient sound, spacious house beats, and sassy interjections. Basically, it captures the sporty, clean feel of the clothes themselves to a T. Sad you didn't get to be there to see it yourself? Well, our friends over at Opening Ceremony were there, and you can watch the show and hear Jamie's mix in the video after the jump!

New York Fashion Week may be a little over a month away, but here at MTV Style, we don't just keep an eye on women's ready-to-wear collections. We keep our sights glued on all countries, seasons, levels of craftsmanship, and genders for style inspiration. Thus, we're warming up our trendspotters with the men's fall/winter 2013 London Collections. Here are the unexpected trends we've spied from the week's dude fashion forecast.

MASKED MEN

Kanye West closed out 2012 with a pair of high fashion face masks for his Revel Atlantic City concerts. Judging from this week's offerings via Alexander McQueen and MAN, 2013 might be the year the casual face mask becomes (a little more) mainstream!

Angel Haze

Angel Haze.
Photo: Mathieu Young

Angel Haze has been frequenting our radar from her Eminem tribute track "Cleaning Out My Closet" to her Classick mixtape. If you didn't already know about her, chances are pretty good that you've heard a word or two regarding the 21-year-old rapper in the past two days. At press time, she and Azealia Banks are engaged in a heated Twitter duel, complete with rapid fire dis tracks. The drama is seductive (let it be known, though, that we're crossing our fingers that this is actually the ultimate Rick Roll and ends in that rumored collaboration track *winces, ducks for cover*), but we're taking this moment to shine a light on a fashion Easter egg that may have been lost in the crossfire: Angel Haze met Mark McNairy today and subsequently tweeted that she'll be walking this Fashion Week. (!!!!!!!!)

Alia Wang, Karlie Kloss

It's well-storied within the fashion community that Alexander Wang's niece, Aila, is one of the (expectedly) best-dressed children on the planet. (Sorry, Suri Cruise!) But seeing her clad in custom threads from her sartorial magician of an uncle AND juxtaposed with Karlie Kloss serving up smoky-eyed realness in the same collection? Our brains have had such a difficult time reconciling the simultaneous cute and fierce that yea, we ARE still talking about these looks close to a month after they each first graced the world. YOU MAD??? The clincher for us is how next-level genius Wang's Spring 2013 collection is rendered by seeing these images in tandem.

Daft Punk Saint Laurent

If you weren't one of the few people lucky enough to attend Paris Fashion Week this season, you might feel, well, a tad shortchanged. Sure, you can peep endless runway photos and scour Instagram for super-cool backstage snaps, but nothing compares to actually being at a fashion show, amirite? Well, friends, we've got some good news—The Cut got their hands on the ENTIRE. SOUNDTRACK. from the highly-anticipated Saint Laurent spring/summer 2013 show, and it features music by THE Daft Punk. *cries tears of joy* Like, could this be more awesome, y'all? Our fave electronic French duo created a 15-minute (yes, that says FIFTEEN. MINUTE.) soundtrack for the models to strut their stuff to with vocals by Junior Kimbrough, an iconic blues musician who passed away in 1998.

Jean Paul Gaultier Paris Fashion Week

Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, and Jessica Stam walk as iconic musicians for Jean Paul Gaultier's Paris Fashion Week show.

More than just a designer, Jean Paul Gaultier is a consummate showman. It's safe to say that you can always count on his Paris Fashion Week shows to dazzle and straight-up entertain. This season was no exception, with JPG not only outfitting his models in gorgeous new Spring 2013 togs (fringed skirts, floral satin pants, latticed wireframe sleeves!!!) but ALSO styling them after iconic musicians. *Cue mental glitter bomb, exploding rainbows and Lisa Frank dolphins.* What does that mean exactly? Well, for starters, you get our House of Style hosts Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss (both of whom also walked the Stella McCartney show this morning!) killing dead a sultry Sade and a braided Boy George respectively. And given JPG's long-storied love of Madonna, there was no shortage of rosary-clad Madge tributes including this sheer black number showcased by the lovely Jessica Stam.

Dolce & Gabbana, Jeremy Scott

Take note, public. Thanks to the one-two punch of Dolce & Gabbana and Jeremy Scott, burlap potato sacks have now graced the Fashion Week runways for two years in a row. That means we officially need to get one (or two or infinity) into our closets STAT. I know what you're about to say: "You mean you're not already wearing burlap potato sacks on the daily? *hair flip*" Well, pump the brakes on the judgement train for just one hot second because maybe we have sensitive skin and thus maybe wanted to feel this trend out before diving in head first! *catches breath from defensive hyperventilating*

Azealia Banks, Solange

Azealia Banks and Solange are each Fashion Week front row staples in their own right. Miss Knowles (who just dropped a teaser video for her new forthcoming album BTW!!) is known to primarily haunt the coveted seats at New York Fashion Week while Harlem-native Banks frequents the international circuit even though both ladies are currently based in New York. The two finally crossed paths at this season's Milan Fashion Week sitting front row at the Just Cavalli Spring 2013 show!

Olivia Palermo London Fashion Week

When fashion week rolls around, we try to pull out ALL the stops with our ensembles--mostly because we know that everyone is bringing their A-game to the shows. But now that NYFW and London Fashion Week are over, we have the chance to look back at some of our fashion faves and check out justtt how much they killed it this season. At the tippy top of our list is The City's Olivia Palermo. She continually ba-rought it during LFW, but not in the typical sleek head-to-toe black kind of way, she went for super bright hues that she colorblocked oh-so-effortlessly. And for that, we bow down.

scott stevenson

Scott Stevenson at his fashion show in New York.
Photo: MTV

We can always count on the scene outside the Marc Jacobs show to be a little crazy, but this season the New York Armory was even more of a spectacle than usual, thanks to Scott Stevenson and his impromptu outdoor fashion show. The 24-year-old designer literally hit the streets this month, staging a renegade runway on the sidewalk that took place just as guests were filing out of Marc Jacobs. Inspired by the heat of summer and DIY to the core, Scott's Spring 2013 collection featured sheer blouses, cropped jackets, and conceptual cutout details- what he dubs as a new kind of "summer layering." The concept of a guerilla-style fashion presentation is nothing new, and we really feel that nobody did it better than X-Girl in 1994. In fact, it was Scott's friend Todd Oldham who originally made the comparison. But despite stunts like sewing models into their outfits on the subway ride uptown and planting the presentation directly on the sidewalk, Scott told us his one-man show arose organically out of the need to make a statement without many resources. "It came about from the necessity to create and not having any money to do it."
