8:39 PM — You guys, we're done backstage. And completely pooped. Thanks for joining us tonight for the 55th annual Grammys Awards. Congrats to all the winners and the sartorial stars. I am going to eat EVERYTHING. Bye.

Lady Gaga Wears Custom Versace At Grammys

From Nicki Minaj's bedazzled satin Red Riding Hood cape to Fergie's see-through orange lace dress, we didn't miss a beat on the 2012 Grammys red carpet. But when it was all over, we felt oddly empty. Then we realized: Where the heck is Lady Gaga? Mother Monster didn't walk the carpet and never actually made it onstage throughout the entire show, but we couldn't, um, not talk about the front row ensemble she was sporting. According to fashion collaborator Nicola Formichetti, she wore custom Versace, which included a rhinestone black veil that covered her entire body (even her face) and then became a sort of chain mail for a structured metallic gold bodice with extra-sharp shoulders. She also had a matching gold scepter (!!!) and metallic nails to finish the look. She added a pop of color to her ensemble with a matte red lip and strong cat eye. Her train is also connected to her hand for mobility's sake, but it seems Lady Gaga pretty much stayed put throughout the show. SADFACE. We really wanted to see that scepter in action.

We've already dished on our top red carpet dresses from the 2012 Grammys, but when we looked a little closer, we noticed something else beautiful happening with all of these ladies' looks—their spectacular nail art! Not only did they bring out their best nail game, but they all matched their tips to their frocks perfectly. First up—Katy Perry. She smothered herself in blue from her hair, to her dress, to even her nails. She sported a clear and azure blue French mani with a single rhinestone placed on each finger to complement her sparkly baby blue Elie Saab gown.

The Best Dressed Of The 2012 Grammy Awards

The 54th annual Grammy Awards were full of sparkle and spectacle despite the somber mood in the air with the passing of a Grammy legend. While there were no arrivals in alien eggs or dresses made out of intestinal linings (#ew), what was on offer this year was nothing short of pure red carpet class. We're talking designer dresses—predominantly in black and white—accents of gold, lace, plunging necklines, delicate appliqueé, and a giant mouse head. Here are our choices for Best Dressed of the night.

JESSIE J IN JULIEN MACDONALD

Ladies and gentlemen, Jessie J turned it OUT. Arriving on the bright red carpet wearing a silver Julien Macdonald gown made of a cotillion of small squares, the hourglass silhouette gave her a modernized old Hollywood feel. Macdonald was the former head designer of Knitwear at Chanel, and he has a knack for creating futuristic feminine designs. This particular dress was a perfect choice for Jessie, and with her slicked-back ponytail, blunt bangs, clavicle-dusting tresses, a mermaid hem, and jet black Lulu Guinness clutch tucked into her palm, she was a shimmering triumph.

Unlike the other major red carpets of awards show season, the Grammys cultivate an atmosphere that almost invites its attendees to create a little more of a scene, to get a little more outrageous. [Insert jazz hands.] While there was nothing quite like Lady Gaga's egg entrance at last year's show, Nicki Minaj and deadmau5 made splashes of their own on this year's step and repeat. Whether you loved or loathed their sartorial choices, you can't help but admit you felt some kinda feelings about both of these button-pushing ensembles.

NICKI MINAJ PONTIFICATES

Any time you make ANY sort of unprovoked religious reference, you're strapping yourself into a speeding train headed straight for guaranteed wave-making and feather-ruffling (*COUGH*"Alejandro" video*COUGH*). Not that those are necessarily new things to Miss Nicki Minaj, mastermind behind "Stupid Hoe" and that 2011 VMA Candy Raver outfit. The MC graced the red carpet in a one-of-a-kind scarlet satin Versace robe. Emblazoned with the label's signature Medusa head across the skirt and worn with matching short sequin-embellished gloves, Nicki appeared to be giving a "Little Red Riding Hood" homage when spotted alone. And then she was joined by her escort: a Pope look-alike. Afagdfakjgkl WHAT??!? Immediately, the black trim mutates into a rosary bead reference and Nicki into a Roman cardinal. We have no idea what kind of statement she's making with this move, but she sure made one. Though, granted, if Donatella Versace showed up on our doorstep with a custom made ANYTHING for us, we'd have a pretty difficult time turning it down.

7:38pm — Rihanna in a one-of-a-kind Armani dress that she and Mr. Armani collaborated on. Deep halter, with a very low back. HOLY FACE. This may be our favorite look of the night. The delicate straps in the back... *Homer Simpson food noises* Also, WHAT MOISTURIZER DOES SHE USE? So good.

7:31pm — Taylor Swift in a rose gold, floor length, cap-sleeve, mandarin collar dress with an updo. Is it me or is she giving retro Nicole Kidman in Dior? It's Zuhair Murad.
