Diamond Rings Talks Superhero Fashion Inspiration And Onstage Style Evolution [INTERVIEW]

Considering the thisclose relationship between fashion and music these days, there's no shortage of bands who transform their live performances into a danceable kind of fashion show. But if you ask us, not many have perfected the art QUITE as well as Diamond Rings. This Toronto-based musical outfit of John O'Regan has a style that's as awesomely futuristic, forward, and boundary-pushing as his signature electro-throbbing sound. And once you check out videos for his tracks like "Runaway Love" and "You And Me," you'll see how this is no small feat. We were dying to know his secret, so we tracked down John just before he hit NYC (his final tour date this year!) to talk about his early days, his superhero inspiration, and why he no longer wears his mom's leggings onstage.

Citizens! Frontman Tom Burke Talks Onstage Band Style And Modeling For Saint Laurent [INTERVIEW]

Fact: any band that puts an "!" at the end of its name wins an automatic place in our iTunes library. But along with their perky moniker, it's the danceable beats and happy-go-lucky-vibe of London fivepiece Citizens! that REALLY won us over for the long haul. These boys pack some major musical punch on their debut album (out now), AND with a self-described "rock n' roll-meets-Englishman" wardrobe, you can bet they look good doing it. Hedi Slimane clearly thinks so. The Saint Laurent designer spotted the group at a festival this summer and immediately tapped frontman Tom Burke for the fashion house's new campaign, setting off a bajillion questions in our brains: Is this the beginning of a second modeling career? Has he been practicing his "Blue Steel" ever since? How did he and Hedi become SUCH good friends? Luckily for us, Tom called in from the tour to give us the scoop on his new gig, Citizens! fashion philosophy, and why he wishes he had style like Jagger.

Jac Vanek Dishes On Snarky T-Shirts, Willow Smith, And Why She Really Doesn't Hate Everyone

Jac Vanek's clothing label should come with fine print that goes a little something like this: "Warning, this t-shirt may cause a reaction." After all, when you're wearing a flannel splashed with "I Hate Everyone" on the back or a beanie with "Dude" lettering, what else would you expect? This is a brand stuffed with attitude, from her dripping grunge graphics to the words themselves, and they've got a bold and daring celeb fan base to match. Everyone from Demi Lovato to Miley Cyrus to Willow Smith has sported Jac's comfy-cute wears, proving just HOW far the L.A. designer has come since she emerged on the scene several years with one "Ruthless" bracelet. We caught up with Jac yesterday to talk about concert-obsessed childhoods, '90s resurgence, and what happens when you see your designs in the tabloids.

'Anna Karenina' Costume Designer Talks Denim Dresses, Keira Knightley, And Chanel Jewelry [Interview]

Fashion and movies go together like Mary-Kate and Ashley, Rita Ora and her sneaks, and sample sales and long lines,. In other words, PERFECTLY. And it's tough to find a film that epitomizes this closerthanclose connection between the two than Joe Wright's big screen adaption of Anna Karenina, which opens this weekend. The Hollywood version of Leo Tolstoy's classic 1877 novel intertwines all the drama of the original (love, gossip, betrayal? Consider us sold.) with thoroughly modern touches like a seriously theatrical overtone and a glamorous sheen that's evident from the intricate hats all the way down to the floor-skimming skirts. But while it's all predictably gorgeous on the outside, we wanted to get the FULL story behind Keira Knightley and co.'s movie outfits. So we hopped on the phone with the film's costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, who called in from L.A. to give us all the answers...

Snooki Talks (Very) Possible Clothing Line, Becoming The Next Jessica Simpson [INTERVIEW]

Guys, Snooki is really, really close to fashion world domination. Like, we thought her accessories, flip-flops, handbags, and sunglasses lines were enough to prove that she was a TOTAL #bosslady, but as it turns out, that was just the beginning of her style endeavors. Last week, she launched her second fragrance and first-ever nail polish collection, and this week we were lucky enough to chat with her about it! (And try all the products out firsthand, obvi.) It turns out she not only launched a 3-piece glitter nail collection like we thought, but also tons of other "Snookified" polishes, including a shimmery green color called "Money Maker" and a magenta hue called "Smush That." She also surprised us with super-cute press-on nails (complete with bows!), animal print nail decals and even a scented top coat. We chatted about all-things beauty, including her freshly-dyed fiery red hair, obsession for nail art, and—GASP—future clothing line. Get All The Deets Behind Sleigh Bells Singer Alexis Krauss' Sephora Campaign Nail Art! [INTERVIEW]

Let's just admit it: Alexis Krauss has been killin' it as of late. The Sleigh Bells frontwoman (and MTV Style fashion icon) not only rocks the best outfits in onstage and in music videos, but she's officially starting to branch out into the fashion world, and we could NOT be more excited about it. Earlier in month we peeped her modeling skills in the Obesity and Speed campaign, and this week, Alexis appeared in Sephora's holiday "Celebrate Your Extraordinary" campaign. WUT. She's featured alongside Parker Posey, Leelee Sobieski, Into The Gloss founder Emily Weiss, and Wonderland fashion editor Julia Sarr-Jamois sporting jet-black liner, a touch of blush and a nude lip. But, we have to admit our favorite part are THOSE. NAILS. So, of course we had to reach out to Alexis' personal nail artist Ria Lopez, (whom you maaayyy remember from a video we did a little while back) and she dished on the inspiration behind her design, what it was like working on her first campaign, and even told us her fave Sephora nail products. Wildfox Designer Kimberley Gordon Talks Kanye West, California, And Young Hollywood Style

The Wildfox Couture world goes a little something like this: super cute t-shirts, dresses, and oversized sweaters set in a land of sunshine, pop culture, and an unlimited closet. Throw in some '90s grunge and Romeo and Juliet lines and there's pretty much NOWHERE else we'd rather be. Clearly we're not the only ones in love, since the L.A. brand has become an unofficial Young Hollywood uniform since the label first burst upon the scene in 2007. So what's the secret? According to founder and designer Kimberley Gordon, their recipe for success involves pop culture references, perpetual California dreaming....and a little help from their friends, Lindsay, Demi, and Beyonce (no last names necessary). Charlotte Ronson Shows Her Spring Summer 2013 Collection in Aruba [Interview]

Dearest NYers: Please do your best not to despise me/hate Tweet me. I escaped the ultimate Mean Girl known as Mother Nature over the weekend…but in the name of fashion! Specifically, Aruba In Style, which showcased many a beach-friendly designer from Aruba, Venezuela, Columbia and other tropical paradises. It was, in short, uh-mazing. Major highlight: kicking it via a cray unconventional front-row experience alongside fashion-y folks like Fashionista and FashionEtc—frozen mojito in hand, feet in pool water—whilst gorgeous models of all shapes and sizes strutted their stuff in floral bikinis, fancy flip-flops and lots of sheer. Additionally, there was a smoke-y sage-clutching model clad in a gothic wedding dress and a male model sporting abs of steel and sequined short-shorts, which resulted in my schvitzing my SPF off. There was also that one time where I found myself at Aruba's version of the Versace mansion for a presentation complete with gaudy marble pillars, statues and, duh, open bar. I bumped into the gorgggg downtown designer staple, Charlotte Ronson, who came down to represent for New York. If y'all saw her salivating-inducing SS13 show, then y'all know the homegirl's designs was a no-brainer showstopper for the daisy dukes, bikinis on top-friendly sartorial soiree. After one too many Pina Colada, I had a kiki with the sun-kissed beauty. Topics included her “Aruba In Style“ debut, her fave fashion-y pop princesses, and her secret behind remaining flaw-free in the Aruba heat/NYC frigid freak show.

Futura Talks Rise Of Street Art And Collaboration Strategy In Exclusive Interview

It's an under-celebrated thing to be afforded the opportunity to make a living by doing what you love most. At MTV Style, we get that every day, being able to meet and talk to inspiring people making things happen, but it's also a truth for the people we interview. Certainly for Futura (née Futura 2000), the New York born and raised graffiti artist who came up in the game with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring and is now enjoying a full-plate of solo and collaborative design opportunities. We were able to sit down and chat with the living legend (shout outs to Chelsea Welsh for the reporting teamwork) at Samsung's Galaxy Note II launch event where he dropped knowledge on the rise of street art culture and shed light on his collaboration strategy shortly before a very special Kanye West performance.

Chromatics Talk 'Looking For Love' Video, Karl Lagerfeld, And Soundtracking Chanel's Runway Show

Since they first hit the scene back in 2001, Portland's dream pop quartet Chromatics have won a cult following for their genre-hopping, electronic-inflected sound. But who knew that the group's loyal fanbase ALSO includes one Mr. Karl Lagerfeld?! The Kaiser (who clearly has amazing music taste) recently handpicked the band to soundtrack his Chanel Spring/Summer13 fashion show, and boy, they delivered. Dressed in duds from the French fashion house (duh), members Ruth Radelet, Adam Miller, Nat Walker, and Johnny Jewel performed live at the Grand Palais, filling the epic venue with their pulsating romantic set. Now they've just released a new video for their single "Looking For Love" that's stocked with makeup, models, and gorgeous behind-the-scenes footage of the show. It's the perfect lo-fi blend of fashion meets music, and we had to find out more. So we tracked down the band to get the back story on just HOW this incredible couture relationship came about. According to Johnny (who also performs in electro-duo Glass Candy), Karl and the band go way back. "Karl's been using Glass Candy & Chromatics songs on the runway since 2007, so there's definitely a history with us there," he said.
