Nikki Williams Favorite Things

When it comes to rising pop starlets, I often find myself giving the perpetual side-eye. I don't ask for much, but I do expect the full pop package (think Brit Brit a.k.a. the Holy Spearit circa 2001). Just gimme me some major pop anthems that have good hair-whipping moments and can get my arms flailing/booty bouncing on many a tequila-drenched dance-floor, and I'm good. Luckily, there's a new burgeoning pop diva on the block, and the dizzying buzz is totally side-eye free. Meet my latest obsession Nikki Williams, who, thank the pop gods, has amazing whip-friendly, fuchsia hair and a bouffant. *faints* Equally important is her Sia-penned sassy pop gem, "Kill, F***, Marry," in which she belts her pretty face off. (FYI: Sia basically is the best songwriter in the universe a.k.a. she wrote Rihanna's "Diamonds.") Mhmm, I expect really big thangs in 2013 for the South African-bred hunni. So, go on and let the obsession begin with Nikki's favorite fashion-y things... which—sartorial spoiler alert—involves a Superman boxers/princess tiara combo as a bad day remedy. My kinda gurl!

Lena Dunham on the cover of 'iD' magazine's "Wise Up" issue.
Photo: Todd Cole/ 'i-D'

With her cult-hit TV show, Miley-inspired chop, AND knack for knowing the ultimate beauty trends as they're happening, it's easy to say that Lena Dunham is officially having a moment. But helloooo, talk about the understatement of the century! Lena's fame is no flash in the pan, and we've got a feeling the New York filmmaker and actress isn't going ANYWHERE anytime soon. She's been killing the fashion scene as of late, turning out at the Met Gala, appearing in ASOS magazine, and now gracing the new issue of i-D. Fronting the December "Wise Up" issue, the Girls director and star shares the honor with THE one and only Grace Coddington (whose own winky perfect cover is also worth nothing). However, right now we're focused only on Lena, who looks totally stunning in an ASOS lip-print blouse, one eye covered by her fist...with her tat highly visible, of course. We always knew she was pretty, but something about her dark lashes, flushed cheeks, and reddish-pink lips take this natural beauty to the next level.

Saoirse Ronan at the ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ premiere this week, at the Met Gala, and at Toronto International Film Festival in 2011.
Photo: Getty Images

Full disclosure: I've had the pleasure of talking with Saoirse Ronan a couple of times, and this girl is preeeetty much the coolest. There aren't TOO many other actresses who choose to rock tomboyish oxfords with dresses on the red carpet, and even fewer who can pull off the look with the same quiet confidence as Saoirse. So along with fellow flat-lovers like Kristen Stewart, we're thankful she's making moves for heel-haters everywhere...ourselves included. Oh, and did we mention she's totally badass? The 18-year-old absolutely killed it -uh, literally- in last year's action flick Hanna, but the best part about Saoirse is the fact that she can hopscotch between stone-cold assassin and Hollywood ingenue in .5 seconds flat. Now that she's the new star of the film adaptation of The Host (penned by Twilight's Stephenie Meyer, so you KNOW it's gonna be huge), it's only a matter of time before Saoirse Ronan finally becomes a household name. So learn to pronounce it (Surr-Sha) and get to know our latest style star below!

Lana Del Rey in Paris today and in London yesterday.
Photo: Getty Images

When it comes to hair, Lana Del Rey is no stranger to switching things up. After all, this is the girl who goes dark at the drop of a hat, swaps Old Hollywood waves for a center-parted straight 'do, and whose ever-growing bouffant deserves an entire post of its own. She even started out in the music biz as a blonde! But while the singer has done pretty much everything to her hair, she's never had bangs...until now. Fresh off her appearance at the 2012 EMA, the New York musician stepped out in London yesterday with her trademark slick straight locks (p.s. nice eyeliner, LDR!). But less than day later in Paris, the photogs spotted her again with a whole new cut and a much-darker shade. And she didn't just go halfway, either- we're talking choppy layers, a slightly shorter trim, and '70s Francoise Hardy fringe.

The clothes from Azealia Banks' 'Atlantis' video are available at ASOS.
Photo: via Azealia Banks Facebook/ ASOS

When Azealia Banks decided to bestow her new "Atlantis" video upon the world last night, the internet basically had a field day. She rides dolphins! She dances in the desert! She pops out of shells! With her mermaid green hair, kooky-cool aesthetic, and the vid's kaleidoscope of rainbow graphics, the Tumblr-tastic clip is basically a winky ode to seapunk everything. And with so many intergalactic-meets-underwater motifs, let's just say Lisa Frank would be jealous. But although the graphics and wardrobe may SEEM straight from the '90s, think again. Turns out Azealia's rocking all modern staples in the video, and they come from one place: ASOS.

NERVO on the Covergirl set.
Photo: Courtesy of CoverGirl

Covergirl has been ALL about adding fresh faces to its roster lately, what with new additions like P!nk and Janelle Monae joining the team this summer. But now the beauty brand is switching it up a bit, adding a pair of emerging DJs from Down Under to its cast of really, really, ridiculously goodlooking spokesmodels. Meet NERVO, the Australian sisters who have taken the EDM world by storm with dance party anthems this year like "We're All No One." While Liv and Mim Nervo may have started out as songwriters (they've penned hits for Britney Spears and Ke$ha), producers and DJs, the girls recently signed with Wilhelmina Models. Considering this is the same agency that also reps Iggy Azalea, it was ONLY a matter of time before they hit it big fashion-wise, as well.

Azealia Banks V Magazine

We couldn't have named V Magazine's spread better ourselves—Azealia Banks, Grimes, Sky Ferreira, Charli XCX and Porcelain Black really are the "Girls Of Now." From their killer music-making abilities to totally-on-trend style, these young ladies are totally pushing the boundaries in ALL aspects of their life, and we love that. Up first: Our fashion-y fave Ms. Azealia Banks. She stunned in her super long, purple mermaid waves, Dior hat, black sequin Donna Karan blazer, Alexander Wang leather bustier, and striped Norma Kamali briefs. (If only WE looked this good sans pants. *sobs*)

Ellie Goulding performs 'Only You' for ASOS.
via ASOS.

We first tipped you off to ASOS's ridiculously rad holiday campaign a couple of weeks ago when we unveiled the brand's #BestNightEver images with Azealia Banks, Ellie Goulding, and model Charlotte Free. Now that these sparkly, spangly, and downright ADORABLE pics have had some time to properly sink into our fashion subconscious (is that even a thing?), our girl Ellie G. is here to help jumpstart our shopping list, and who's going to argue with that?! The U.K. singer has just released a new music video for the concept campaign, showing off an exclusive cut of her single "Only You." The breezy, electro-pop track is pretty awesome in itself, but get this— from her embellished top to her cracked PU shorts to her wedge ankle boots, it's 100% shoppable! Mhmmm....genius.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora has been switching up her style lately.
Photo: Getty Images

We've fallen pretty hard for Rita Ora's almost aaaaalways sneaker-clad style (Exhibits A, B, and C). The sporty kicks are such an integral part of her personal steez that she's even been named the newest face of Superga! We know, though, that styles evolve many times over, and it looks like our girl Rita might be on the verge of a new fashion chapter. Judging from a few of her most recent public appearances, Ora's ditched the sneakers and streetwear (for the time being) in favor of some more markedly high fashion ensembles.

Alexis Krauss

Remember a couple of weeks ago when Obesity & Speed's Lyz Olko hinted that her upcoming collection was going to be totally BANANAS?! OK, so maybe those were our words, not hers, but the truth remains— the New York designer has outdone herself yet again, this time injecting her signature grungy basics with a decidedly sporty twist. Think shortsleeved sweatshirts with mesh insets, shredded tie-dye tees, and awesome "Can't Lose" tanks that remind us a lot of our old lacrosse pinnies....except a lot cooler, of course. Plus, this season comes with an added bonus— the spring lookbook stars none other than Sleigh Bells frontwoman Alexis Krauss as the ultimate cheerleader dropout. Win-win!
