Is Rita taking style cues from Willy W.?! Photo: Splash News/ 'Willy Wonka' Facebook
Although Rita Ora might've claimed to be repping the new Smurfs movie with her (temporarily) blue hair earlier this week, there's NO fooling us here: the singer has now gone back to blonde, and she's got yet another style muse! Just like last time, the answer's obvious. When the pop star stepped out yesterday in a purple jacket, pants, and matching nails, there's NO denying the fact that she's paying homage to the ultimate candy man himself, Willy Wonka. We're not talking about Johnny Depp's 2005 incarnation, either. Nope, we're referring to the 1971 throwback Charlie and the Chocolate Factory version, starring Gene Wilder himself. Whether or not Rita realized it at the time, we're digging her bold, monochromatic plum look! Not to mention, the fact that Wonka just might be THE most creative fashion icon we're seen in a while...

Ever since the very beginning in the '90s with cover girls like Liv Tyler and Gwen Stefani, NYLON's always been one to show total and complete support for the latest crop of rising stars. But we've got to admit, for this year's annual Young Hollywood Issue, the magazine outdid even itself by choosing none other than Miss Chloe Grace Moretz (!!) to represent the new guard of up-and-comers. We first suspected something was up several weeks ago when the actress tweeted this photo of her rad pop art manicure, and now we can see the spread in all its fun high fashion glory. Fresh off her recent Teen Vogue stint, where she showed her tough-girl side in tulle coupled with studs and leather, Chloe's getting playful and punky here with mixed prints, tons of slogan tees, and a complete '90s style resurgence. Who knows? Maybe Liv Tyler's 1999 cover really HAS come full circle in 2013. See even more of the photoshoot below!
Selena Gomez talks about her performance outfits. Photo: MTV
Sequin short-shorts, mullet dresses or frothy tulle skirts? There is absolutely no telling what Selena Gomez will wear for her performance at tomorrow's 2013 MTV Movie Awards but we did manage to snag three hints and a VERY beguiling bonus clue about what to expect. As you know, the stunning Spring Breakers dynamo took a year-long hiatus from music to focus on her acting career, but Sunday night signals Selena's worldwide debut of "Come & Get It," the first single from her impending summer album and we cannot wait to see what she wears. Ever since she first burst on the music scene back in 2009, Sky Ferreira has practically trademarked her long Barbie blonde locks. Sure, her signature California girl cut may have undergone several incarnations over the years, from waist-length and wavy as a baby-faced newcomer all the way to platinum and straight earlier this spring, but we've never seen anything quite so dramatic as this. After sporting long hair for what seems like forever, the 20-year-old took a cue from Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Karlie Kloss yesterday and CHOPPED. IT. ALL. OFF. We know, we can't believe it, either—but pictures don't lie, people. Not only did she cut 6-plus inches off the length, Terry Richardson was there to document the entire thing (of course).

You hear that? That sound is just the undeniable buzz that zips around the MTV Style HQ whenever one of our faves like Grimes, Rita Ora, or Iggy Azalea finds herself firmly planted upon some glossy prime real estate. But now that that all THREE emerging stars have landed themselves individual covers for HUNGER magazine, this buzzy feeling has morphed into a bonafide EXPLOSION that practically crackles right off of the screen. Publications are quickly learning that one way to sell issues like hotcakes (or, in this case, concert tickets) is to produce multiple covers and often with more than one star. So perhaps taking cues from Teen Vogue'ssuccess with all five of its One Direction covers,HUNGER upped the ante with seven different editions for Spring/Summer 2013, each featuring a different rising female artist. Yes, you read that right...seven! In addition to Grimes, Rita, and Iggy, Jessie J, A*M*E, Gabrielle Aplin, and Crystal Renn all landed smack dab on an issue and repping a style that's undeniably her own. Editor-in-chief Rankin handpicked each of the girls himself, explaining, “I had begun to notice a pattern emerging in film and fashion, but most notably in music; where people (most obviously, young women) were taking control of their creative lives and output in a way I hadn’t seen before,” he said. So the natural step was to put them on the cover of his magazine, and it's an awesome thing he did.
Morgan Saylor, Kiernan Shipka, and Sarah Hyland on the cover of ASOS Magazine. Photo: ASOS Magazine
Do they put something in the water now to make being a teenager less completely horrifying? It sure seems that way, especially if Kiernan Shipka, Morgan Saylor, and Sarah Hyland are any indication. The three young actresses have pivotal roles on television's biggest shows—Kiernan as Sally Draper on Mad Men, Morgan as Dana Brody on Homeland, and Sarah as Haley Dunphy on Modern Family—and are quickly cementing themselves as red carpet mainstays. The three are the cover stars of the latest edition of ASOS Magazine, and not only do they pose in some super adorable prom looks, but the three open up about their own prom experiences (or lack thereof). Before we get too far into what's inside the pages, though, let's ooh and aah over the overwhelming cuteness that is that cover. The three girls are styled effortlessly, in clean makeup, floral accessories, and dresses that reflect each of their individual styles. Morgan channels Lana Del Rey in a white lace shift and flower headband, Kiernan stays true to her preppy proclivities in a white a-line cocktail dress with a floral collar, and Sarah keeps it modern in a baby blue, semi-sheer frock.
Well hello there, Kate Nash! The MTV Artist to Watch is performing tonight at The Studio at Webster Hall in NYC, but she's also all over the latest issue of Galore magazine, looking fierce and making us long for bike riding weather. Shot by Galore editor-in-chief Jacob Dekat for the Women Who Rock Issue (featuring cover girlChanel Iman, of course), Kate took to the New York City streets in an INCREDIBLE bejeweled bra top and hot pants from The Blonds, layered over her own fishnet top, and a necklace from Toujours Toi. Nash is channeling a punk rock pin-up in her usual victory rolls, her brown hair streaked with bleached blond, a flawless cat eye and bright red lip. Earlier this month, we chatted with Kate about her style, her music, and more specifically, her new album Girl Talk, and she made it very clear that she's no slouch when it come to fashion. Her Galore shoot reflects just that, with unexpected styling and a super fun approach to already fun pieces.
Between this week's New York Times profile on founder Sophia Amoruso (they nickname her "Cinderella of Tech"), a rumored deal with Urban Outfitters, and its day-to-day biz of dressing girls in generally badass, super cute clothes, Nasty Gal is clearly on a fast track to world domination. But first, the label has to make a quick pit stop at Coachella. For the newest lookbook, Sophia and co. recruited YouTube star and all-around Cali cool girl Pia Mia Perez to model the brand's latest collection of festival-ready wares. We first suspected something rad was brewing between the two when Sophia posted this picture to Instagram a couple of weeks ago with the caption "@princesspiamia prepares to caravan across the desert with our team to shoot the upcoming Coachella lookbook. Instagram castings do happen!" Hold up, Instagram CASTINGS?! With almost 200K followers on her @PrincessPiaMia account, Sophia isn't exactly plucking Pia Mia from obscurity, Cinderella-style...but the unusual story of how the teen scored her first real modeling gig does sound a bit like a 21st century fairytale.
Chanel Iman on the cover of Galore. Photo: Ellen Von Unwerth/Galore
One could argue that every issue of Galore mag is one about women who rock, since their subjects are always so bonkers amazing, but their Spring 2013 glossy certainly ups the ante in that department. Featuring interviews with a grip of awesome ladies, including Kate Nash, Andrej Pejic, and Brooke Candy, and a slightly racy cover shoot featuring Chanel Iman, it has spring fever written all over it. Shot by Ellen Von Unwerth, Chanel poses in a silver, deep v-necked bodysuit and mirrored gold pumps, silver sunglasses pushed girlishly up on her head, eyes looking straight into the camera, like she's contemplating whether or not to eat you alive. The vibe is a little bit Boogie Nights, a little bit '70s, and extremely opulent, and it's really working for us.
You know how much we love Advanced Style. Ari Seth Cohen's blog-turned-book-turned-documentary is one of our favorite destinations for inspiration that transcends trends, and with his latest endevour he has paired some of our fave bloggers with some truly fabulous advanced ladies. Advanced Style x Coach: Generations of Style should be required watching for every young fashion fan, as each of the segments is filled with unbeatable advice. Cohen paired Man Repeller's Leandra Medine up with "Countess of Glamour" Lynn Dell for the series, and watching the two together fills our hearts with endless amounts of joy as we put our noses into our notebooks and furiously write down all of Lynn's expert advice.
A little background: Lynn Dell is a New York City fashion legend. The owner of Boutique Off Broadway on Manhattan's Upper West Side, she's been a provider of sage style advice for more than 40 years. Leandra recalls one of Lynn's most well known quotes in the video, which is one that we're going to put in our pocket and carry around forever. "Fashion says 'me too;' style says 'only me.'" Isn't that the truth?! Advanced Style also paired blogger Susie Bubble with Ilona Royce Smithkin and FrouFrouu with Linda Rodin and we would highly recommend watching all three videos. Sharpen your pencils!
