Kanye West

Well well well, look who we found traipsing into the A.P.C. offices in Paris this morning! Kanye West is spending a little time in the City of Lights, you know, per usual, and in typical Yeezy style, this visit is filled with fashion. We know Mr. West is friends with A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, so it shouldn't come as such a surprise that he's making a pit stop at his workplace while he's in town. In light of the rumors that Kanye and Jean might be working on a collaboration, though, it's hard not to sit up and pay attention.

Kanye West, Jean Touitou

Are Kanye West and Jean Touitou working on a collaboration?

Kanye West is one of the best dressed dudes in the game, and while he's already bestowed unto the world TWO full runway collections, we are forever anxiously awaiting Ye's next foray into fashion design. We understand, though, that Yeezy is a busy busy man, and this year has been especially eventful with releasing Cruel Summer, assembling G.O.O.D. Music, wearing leather kilts, and reading the Grace Coddington memoir. BUT thanks to one fateful Twitpic via A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, there might be a glimmer of hope for us yet!

Along with a GRIP of other big name musicians and Hollywood heavyweights, Kanye West hit the Madison Square Garden stage last night for "12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief." Yeezy represented for hip hop with a 12-song set, starting with "Clique" and following up with one crowd-pleaser after another including "Gold Digger," "All of the Lights," and "Jesus Walks." It wasn't Ye's impenetrable commitment to performance that had everyone talking, though, so much as his performance ensemble. He wore a leather pleated Givenchy skirt over leather leggings, and while Kanye wearing a skirt, of leather or not, isn't that new of a thing for us here at MTV Style, it certainly raised some eyebrows among the 12-12-12 Concert audience.

Kanye West, Leandra Medine, and Mia Moretti In Maison Martin Margiela for H&M.
Photo: Courtesy of H&M

The fact that the launch event for the Maison Martin Margiela x H&M collaboration last night was beyond A-list (A+ List?) comes as no surprise. Immortalized in lyrics of hip-hop songs by Jay-Z and Kanye, worn by the most discerning celebs, and always on the cutting edge, the fashion house was, until now, about as lux and rarefied as it could get. This is why, when rumors were swirling that Margiela would be joining forces with H&M on a collaboration, we held our breath in disbelief. It was true, though, and your opportunity to cop it for yourself is quickly approaching. The likes of Kanye West, The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine, DJ Mia Moretti and many more turned out in New York city for the launch, some even transforming into real-life models of the new collection. Sidebar: our own House of Style host Joan Smalls turned out for the event, right after her live Twitter interview with Karlie Kloss and the Wall Street Journal! Ok back on track—Kanye, Leandra, and Mia showed us how versatile and wearable the super directional collection can be, so we wanted to go through the look book and tell you which exact pieces the three were wearing!

You may remember that back in 2009, Kanye West uploaded a self-deprecating video of himself to his blog (R.I.P. KanyeUniverseCity) decreeing his new name: "Martin Louis The King, Jr." It was an attempt to make light of the fact that he and his (then) newest sneaker collaboration boasted the same name - the Louis Vuitton Don. And to comment on the waves he made sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week January that same year wearing the head-turning, cherry red kicks. Welp, now, more than THREE YEARS after that video and Kanye's ceremonious self-renaming, Jeremy Watt has developed the Kanye Nickname Generator which doles out über-fashionable monickers much like Yeezy's for all who dare to take part. Also, it desecrates any and all chances for productivity in your day. Don't say we didn't warn you.

It's a rare but always delightful treat when Kanye West takes to Twitter for one of his signature streams of consciousness. We aaaaall remember the several-hour-long Internet soliloquy that ended in the reveal of DONDA, Kanye's design company/think tank, right? Well, Yeezy's latest Twitter spiel is inspired by a weekend drive through the city and the slew of fashion faux pas he was so pained to witness from his whip.

Alicia Keys Swizz Beatz Cassie Diddy Kanye West Fashion Show Paris

Unless you've been hiding out in a dark, internet-less cave for the past 24 hours, you've probably heard all the hubbub surrounding Kanye West's much-anticipated return to Paris Fashion Week. We live-blogged the entire show as it went down (including the go-kart racing track around the runway!), and then we hit you up with every look from Kanye's fall collection. But perhaps the most talked about part of the evening were the celebs! Yeezy's fellow musician friends came out in droves to support the rapper turned fashion maven. Everyone from Kim Kardashian (who wore his $6,000 shoes from last season!) to Leigh Lezark made an appearance at 'Ye's show, but we have to say this front-row shot (above) mayyyy be one of the best from this season...or perhaps of all time.

Kanye West Fall 2012 Paris Fashion Week

Waka Flocka Flame, A-Trak, and Big Sean all made an appearance at Kanye West's fall 2012 after party.

Not to be all, "We told you so!" but we totally called it earlier today when we thought Azealia Banks would be performing at Kanye West's second-ever Paris Fashion Week show. Little did we know, we wouldn't be graced with just Ms. Banks presence, but also Waka Flocka Flame, A-Trak, Big Sean, Common, AND Mos Def. Um, did Yeezy go big or what? The rappers took over Kanye's runway space in Paris (which included a racing track around the seats) for an all-out after party that we wish soooo hard we were invited to. *single tear* Luckily, thanks to this thing called THE INTERNET, we were able to scrap together what this fashion-filled event entailed.

Kanye West Paris Fashion Week Fall 2012

Kanye West’s show was good. I realize this sounds like faint praise or an attempt at side-eyed diplomacy but it’s not. The show was good and it was safe. Anna Wintour told WSJ moments before that she anticipated a “short” show and it was also that. The show was good, safe, and short. There were 20 looks.

It’s not at all what you would expect from Kanye West. Thing is, I’m so used to BANANAS Kanye. Euphoric Kanye. Tweeting-about-DONDA-and-damn-near-breaking-the-Internet Kanye. Kanye who’s going to revolutionize school systems and videos and award shows and music. I just wish he could apply some of that energy and unabashed gassed-ness to fashion. I never thought I’d say this about Kanye West but I just wish he had been more confident. Displayed more of an ego.

4:26pm — Super short and sweet, three colors, 20 looks that ends in a go kart race around the crowd. Check back in for the detailed wrap-up and more.

4:25pm — I do love the classic, American sportswear cues like this bone-colored, oversized (clearly V luxe) crewneck sweatshirt

4:23pm — These ribbed (strapped?) boots are absolutely the business.

4:22pm — The burnout velvet pieces are gorgeous and happily, Kanye has overcome the loosey-goosey fit problem from last season.

4:21pm — Really serious, austere lines, girlie notes in the skirts, and velvet.

4:19pm — Boatloads of leather.

4:17pm — FUR BAGS again.

4:08pm — We can keep talking since we're not there BUT Anna Wintour just told the WSJ that she anticipates a "short show." WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

4:07pm — Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh everyone's asked to sit down and be quiet. Must be starting soon. Ish. Esque.

4:06pm — Kim K is wearing Kanye's SIX THOUSAND DOLLAR shuz.
