Only Hearts Fur Underwear

Would you wear this Only Hearts fur underwear set?

Before you even attempt to answer that question, let me just alert you that the bralette of this Only Hearts faux fur lingerie set is currently sold out on Shopbop. Also, there are only two of the thongs left in stock, so this is undeniable proof that SOMEONE (many someones at that!) can envision a time and place wherein she would absolutely slip into these fuzzy, ivory unmentionables. And that's great. But are we, the ladies of MTV Style, in such an extreme minority to think that the entire concept behind these intimates, chiefly the bottoms, is kiiiiiind of *achem* counterintuitive? We think not.

Nasty Gal sells Daniel Palillo spiked leggings.
Photo: Courtesy of Nasty Gal

Greetings, Internet dwellers. Here is a thing I've found. They're called Spiked Leggings, and you can buy them at one of our favorite e-retailers, Nasty Gal. The only question is: would you? As you've probably deduced by now, these aren't your mom's, aunt's, or grandmother's leggings. Also, these stem-swaddlers are definitely not to be confused with studded leggings which we're mighty familiar with thanks to Miss Beyonce Knowles. These are high-waisted black leggings which feature a row of three 4+ inch fabric-covered spikes down each shin. They're as head-turning as they are spatially-menacing, which is what brings us to our go-to style colosseum: you, dear readers!

Coco Rocha with designers Bruce and Glen.

It's hard enough to spot celebrities from afar- but getting close enough to TOUCH them? That's pretty much impossible, unless you're New York designers Bruce and Glen. These twin brothers are determined to get their collection of high fashion slap bracelets noticed, so they've been going around town literally slapping Beyonce, Coco Rocha, and Trey Songz with their awesomely out-there creations. But don't worry, they didn't get slapped back. In fact, the bold marketing strategy is totally working. The designers' eponymous collection of studded, mirrored, leopard and neon accessories is officially bringing back '90s slap bracelets, once and for all.

Azealia Banks, Lil Kim

The business of dressing with one (or more) exposed breast is a tricky one. It's a rare, brave woman who will opt to step out with little more than a cloaked areola, mammaries flapping in the wind, but it's safe to say that when she does, she's usually channeling some sort of mermaid theme. All of the above is true for Azealia Banks and Lil Kim who have both conjured up their inner-mermaid and implemented the daring sparkly nipple adhesives as their outfit centerpieces.

Apparently these garments are Latino, can you tell?
Photo: Topshop

It took me a little while to fully process the unbridled bad-bonkersness of this one. One night recently I was casually perusing the Topshop website with my roommate--I think we were in the 'Calypso' collection--when we came across a top with an interesting product name--"Aztec Print Latino Suntop." Wrong on so many levels, the cropped tank features a front button placket and sweet heart neckline with two sets of straps. This particular top was in a blue geometric pattern that apparently has something to do with Aztecs? We just didn't see it. My initial reaction to the whole thing was disappointment. As a big fan of Topshop, it really bums me out to see this kind of blatantly poor management and decision making on the part of the brand. But also, knowing how these things worked, we knew that if there was one of these issues, there were probably more to be found. Dumbfounded, my roomie and I did a quick search on the e-retailer's site for the offending term, and discovered just how many variations on the tops there were. Thirteen different colors and prints, ranging from an (offensive in and of itself) leopard and rose print to petal pink, black and multiple colorways of the aforementioned 'Aztec.' We also discovered a pair of heels that shared the "LATINO" moniker, only this time IN ALL CAPS because they're apparently SUPER Latino, I guess? The offending shoes are five and a half inch platform stilettos with a faux snake heel and red, pink, black and white upper. When I showed the shoes to a friend, she gasped and said "this is the equivalent of when people call Latina women 'spicy.'" Is a prevalent and wildly offensive stereotype at the root of this gaff? Your guess is as good as ours, but we're going to say yes, probably. All in all, the garments themselves are innocuous enough, but the fact that these bright, summery pieces require a racialized product name is something that we need to discuss. Also, there is not a single comment about the problematic name in the product reviews. What gives, Topshoppers?

Creatures of Comfort Hairbrush

It seems that glossy, long hair is becoming a kind of trend, and we're not talking about the hair on your head. Perhaps this is something for which we can thank Lady Gaga and her many tendriled ensembles. Or maybe this is all attributable to the long-haired looks of the Fashion Week runways. Regardless of who is responsible (or rather, to blame, depending on your feelings about the furry craze), this is undeniably a full-fledged trend and one we can no longer sit idly by. This thing is officially spreading like wildfire: first, hairy garments, then, hairy accessories, and now, styling products are sprouting locks of their own? This, friends, is where we draw the line.

Beth Ditto

Whatever Beth Ditto's secret is for having so much energy, we want it...now. Seriously, the Gossip frontwoman has been making MAJOR moves lately, first rocking bedazzled eyebrows in the band's mod-inspired music video, and now talking about dream clothing collabs with New York Magazine. The musician has already worked on a fashion line before, with the U.K. company Evans, but, as she tells NYMag, there were logistical problems turning her designs around fast enough. Instead of partnering with a larger brand, Ditto admits she wants to do her own thing: "I really want to do my own line that’s ethically made, and I can do whatever the f*** I want with it." Um, her very own clothing line? Talk about a no-brainer. Especially given Ditto's love for sequins, sparkles, and all kinds of minidresses, we can't really think of anything better.

Jeffrey Campbell's "Upend" and "Float" style shoes.
Photo: Courtesy of SoleStruck

Okay, maybe that headline is just the teensiest bit misleading, BUT what else would you call these latest Jeffrey Campbell offerings?? Those top ones, the "Upend," appear to be some kind of cousin to the oxford, and the bottom shoe, JC's "Float," appears, at first glance, to be a perspex sandal. They both have lucite heels, but by no means would I consider these "lucite heels." These shoes (one thing we know they are!!) inhabit in a strange classification limbo, caught in an unchartered middle ground between flats and heels/wedges, and we're not quite sure how we feel about it.

Kristen Stewart wears a BCBG Pre-Fall 2012 dress in Madrid.

Way to go, K.Stew! Our favorite jeans-and-tee wearing cool girl has officially grown up...fashion-wise, at least. Just within the last week, Kristen Stewart has already donned a see-through Marchesa gown at the London Snow White and the Huntsman premiere and gotten in touch with, uh, her manlier side for Elle magazine. Her latest style baby step was at the film's photo call in Madrid earlier today, where the star worked one of the season's biggest trends: the harness. She attached the black leather embellishment to her altered BCBG Pre-Fall dress (shortened from the runway version), giving the already-edgy frock a tough twist. Paired with a side braid (hello, Katniss Everdeen!) and barefaced beauty look, it's a high-fashion version of the actress we already know and love.

Karl Lagerfeld, Snoop Dogg

The duo stars in Jean-Roch's new music video.

It's crazy to think it's been almost a year since we first told you about Karl Lagerfeld and Snoop Dogg's forthcoming music video, but now the day has finally come- and trust us when we say it's 100% worth the wait. Tapped by Europop star Jean-Roch, the oddest couple ever lends their swag to his latest single, which is a musical ode to the luxe beach town of St. Tropez (yep, it's all as ridiculous as it sounds..) The video for the eponymous track rolls out with grand movie-style opening credits, before settling above the clouds where the white-suited Kaiser meets up with Jean-Roch and informs him that heaven's not the only version of paradise. Spoiler alert: St. Tropez is, too. That's when the vid quickly cuts back to Earth, where Snoop's holding things down by the water in his signature pigtails and ready to fist-pump up a storm.
