In the teaser for Katy Perry's "Birthday" video, the singer transforms into five different birthday party entertainers. Oh, one caveat—they're the world's worst party people. Katy is so transformed by her makeup and (surprisingly?) good at accents that when the video began I didn't ~get~ that it was Katy in disguise. In retrospect, I'm embarrassed. At the time, though, I was embarrassed for the aging showgirl.

The dancer's name, of course, is Goldie. This isn't your run-of-the-mill slap on a wig and glasses transformation (we're looking at you, Drake)—Katy has on elaborate makeup and prostheses to make not only her face, but neck look wrinkly. She's got some bright blue eye shadow, a bold red lip, and it looks like a brush hasn't touched her hair in years. It's quite a different look from the wistful old lady she played in "The One That Got Away" (more on that later).

Then there's Yosef Shulem, an MC, who is willing to tell jokes at funerals. For Yosef, Katy has on layers of makeup to make her neck and chin look chunkier, a curly wig and matching strong brows, and, my personal favorite, chest and finger hair. No detail was skipped, you guys!

One Direction

How's it going, Directioners? Enjoying your Friday? Enjoying One Direction's new video where they share clothes and morph into one another? Me too! After teasing the video all week on Instagram, it's finally here. While Harry wears zero things (zero!) on his head, there is other fashion to be discussed. Mostly how all five dudes are in the same outfit for the majority of the video. Do you think they all shared one sweater or were there numerous? If there was only one, how much can I buy it for? Inquring minds need to know.

The sweater in question, of course, is a gray crew-knit. While we only get full-length shots of Niall and Harry wearing the sweater, their bottom halves are also styled the same, in tight black jeans. Niall also debuted his new 'do in the video. While he's shown it off on Instagram, this is the first time we're seeing it in motion, fluttering in the wind. His old coif was way too gelled to flow freely like that, TBH.

The three other guys are also wearing the sweater. While it's plausible that Louis has capris on, I think it's safe to assume that all have black jeans on out of frame.

We've kept track of what Harry Styles wears on his heads for a long time around these parts. I keep an updated list of every hat, headband, or mask that touches his flowing brown curls—that's not for work, BTW, just more of a personal thing. Anyway. While his luscious locks usually fly free in One Direction's music videos, it looks like his headgear collection may have infiltrated the video for "You & I."

In case you weren't aware, there's a new 1D video dropping tomorrow. The band has been teasing the video—Harry's clip went up today and within 10 seconds he has three different things on his head.

Sky Ferreira

We already knew before we hit play that Sky Ferreira’s new video for “I Blame Myself” would be all about the clothes. For her new My Night, My Time single, Sky teamed up with online retailer Ssense and System magazine on what could be the future of pop music: the shoppable music video. Ssense and System have made a few changes to the format since they released the first shoppable music video with Iggy Azalea. In the new format, you shop after you watch—rather than as it plays—which doesn’t take us out of the video’s world, which is, in this case, an abandoned lot. Of course, the clothes, front and center, do not disappoint.

In the opening scene, the camera tricks us for a moment into thinking we’re staring at the back of a dude before it does a 180º and we see that it’s actually Sky. She’s styled in a Givenchy star patch leather bomber jacket, a Christopher Kane hoodie, Saint Laurent crystal-embellished tights, a Saint Laurent biker skirt, and an amazing pair of black-and-white basketwoven Acne kicks with beaded flower Simone Rocha socks.

Are shoppable music videos the wave of the future? Some people might think that. OK, it's me—I think that. Considering the blurring divide between editorial and commerce, and fashion and music, the video genre seems primed to take off. There’s also the fact that music videos are really expensive and, as they’ve become more and more about the clothing, getting killer looks for them can be a budgetary hurdle, especially if you’re an emerging artist without designers lining up to loan you looks.

Online retailer Ssense is making a case for the shoppable music video, along with their partner System magazine. First they teamed up with Iggy Azalea when she was a wee spitfire back in 2012 on the video for “I Think She Ready.” (As we noted last week when her Revolve campaign was announced, Iggy is kind of a pioneer in this realm.) Now, they’re working with another artist at the forefront of the intersection of music and fashion, Sky Ferreira, on the video for her new single “I Blame Myself.”

Do you know what today is? It's the third of April. What significance does this date have (other than being two days after April Fools' Day)? It's the anniversary (seventh, to be exact) of the release of Beyonce's B'Day Anthology Video Album, King Bey's first video album. *SKRRRRRRRRT* Yes, internetlings. Bey stans likely didn't forget, but for the rest of y'all, there actually was a video album that predates Beyonce's eponymous "visual album" released late last year (December 2013). Now, technically, Beyonce the album, is still the first of its kind since the B'Day Anthology was released seven months AFTER the intial audio album dropped in September 2006. BUT, the fact that it exists at all is (A) awesome, and (B) a clear indication that Bey's been thinking about this concept for a very long time. In honor of B'Day's, well, b-day, here are all of the music-video wardrobe GIFs you'll ever need. Now, go on and watch Yonce writhe in all-leopard for "Kitty Kat," shake her derriere in Dereon silver sequins for "Get Me Bodied," and tell that low-life to put everything he owns to the left, to the left, over and over (and over)!

Rita Ora

Despite the fact that Rita Ora has been seemingly everywhere over the past few months—on the runways, on the cover of magazines, working with Rimmel, DKNY, and Adidas, and filming 50 Shades of Grey—we were starting to really miss her, music-wise. It’s been two years since she released her debut album, Ora, but now we finally have a taste of what the follow-up is going to sound like, and brace yourselves, Ritabots, it’s good. In the video for the lead single “I Will Never Let You Down,” which just dropped today, Rita delivers her catchiest song yet, a pure pop love song adorably penned by her BF Calvin Harris. Of course, this being a Rita Ora video, there’s a lot of killer clothes involved, so let’s get into it!

Our first shot of Rita is a tasteful black-and-white headshot just being developed. If you’ve seen One Direction’s "Story of My Life" video, you already know what happens next: She starts singing! But unlike 1D, the vibe of Rita’s animated photos is more early ‘90s and ties into the song’s throwback sound, which, Calvin Harris told Paper, was inspired by Whitney Houston.

Lady Gaga

As it turns out, all of that confusion surrounding Lady Gaga’s new video was warranted. Even though it’s being billed as the visual for “G.U.Y.,” it’s more of a short film than a music video, split into four sections: “ARTPOP,” “Venus,” “G.U.Y.,” and “Manicure.” Did you expect any less from a video shot at a CASTLE over the course of a week? This is ARTPOP we’re talking about, where things are a little more abstract, even for Gaga. Clocking in at 11 minutes and 47 seconds, this is Gaga’s longest video to date which means (a) Brandon Maxwell had his hands full in the wardrobe department, and (b) much to our delight, there is an epic number of outfits to discuss.

Lady Gaga

A still from Lady Gaga's 'G.U.Y.' music video.Photo: Interscope Records

In the opening “ARTPOP” shot, we see a bunch of men fighting over money as Gaga is left in a ditch with her back punctured by an arrow, looking like a wounded bird. The men walk away, picking up bills scattered across the hilltop floor on their way out, and Gaga struggles to pull out the arrow. Now, I don’t speak Gaga but I can guess that all of this imagery is an allusion to the age-old existential struggle between art and commerce. Even more interesting is the parallel, whether intentional or not, to Kanye West’s short film for “Runaway,” which also features a Phoenix character played by Selita Ebanks.

Last week, when Le1f performed "Wut" on Late Show With David Letterman and made his TV debut in Hood by Air and actual snow boots, we had no idea that a week later we'd be gifted a video for "Boom." IDK about you, but after watching this video all I wanna do is avoid diners and ride shotgun in a Jeep. It looks like my weekend plans have just been confirmed. We got the deets on the video's fashion, styled by Prince Franco, from the rapper himself, so let's not waste any more time—to the clothes!

The video begins outside the diner, with Le1f in not one, but two jackets. Winter 2014 was the winter of two jackets #polarvortex. The first is a Diesel denim jacket, and the other a Pelle Pelle leather jacket. Underneath the two jackets is a black-and-white Y-3 tank that reads "ANTI."

Missy Elliott

Hear that? It's the sound of you singing "I CAN'T STAND THE RAIN" to yourself over and over for the rest of the day. Why? Because I'm dropping another #TBT on you, and Missy Elliott's "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" is the proud owner of an Ann Peebles-sampled hook that just won't quit. Today is the first day of spring (vernal equinox for all my science folk) which, for those of us on the East Coast, means a lot of rain in our near future. Thus, the song selection. (Well, that, and Broad City briefly spoofed it last night.) Now, without further ado, I'm breaking down the FASHUN from this iconic Missy x Hype Williams joint in this week's #TBT.
