OPI by Gwen Stefani.

Sorry I’m not home right now, I’m
walking in the spiderwebs painting my nails LIKE GWEN STEFANI (so leave a message and I’ll call you back). ICYMI, OPI just announced that Stefani will be the latest celebrity to collaborate on a nail polish collection with the star-savvy brand and TBH, this makes ALL the sense. Gwen is no doubt (heh) a major style icon (the hair, the lipstick, the abs), and this is the ~perfect~ addition to her ever-growing fashion empire, which already includes her L.A.M.B clothing/accessories line and her Harajuku Lovers perfumes.
We knew we had to honor the end of Breaking Bad and what better way to do it than with nail art? Especially after we stumbled upon these INSANE BB nails complete with mini meth crystals in Walt's signature blue. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of other ah-may-zing Breaking Bad-inspired designs out there, so we rounded them up to ease the pain of having to fill your Sunday nights with a new TV show.

Zooey Deschanel, long-reigning nail art queen of the red carpet, did not disappoint at this year's Emmys (duh). Zooey showed off her mod black-and-white manicure on Instagram, which was done by her long-time mani collaborator, Tom Bachik. Bachik did Zooey's Emmy nails last year, when she paired retro TV nails with a light blue tulle gown.
Yeah, yeah, we know New York Fashion Week is officially over, but we needed a FULL weekend of recovery before we dove in and picked out the top nail art looks from all the shows—and it also happens to be Manicure Monday. (How perfect!) We have to admit, though, that this year we definitely saw designs of a whole different variety. Sure, we peeped some straight-up half moon manis (Peter Som!) and glitter gradients (Nicole Miller!), but overall we were incredibly impressed with how much designers were willing to experiment with their tips. From mechanical 3D nails to purposely-imperfect manis, we found 10 shows that totally took nail art to the next level. Check 'em out below!
Nail art from The Blonds' New York Spring 2014 Fashion Week show.

OK, this image alone speaks volumes about the diversity of nail designs The Blonds had in just ONE NYFW show. Their Tweety Bird-inspired collection certainly included some on-theme bright yellow designs, but they also incorporated clear acrylics and—get this—a mechanical accent nail that came with a clear hinged door (top right). UH HUH, you can thank CND for that lovely creation.

Naughty rumor or nice surprise? Right around this time last year, we found out that Mariah Carey had been pegged to design TWO limited-edition celebrity nail color collections with polish giant, OPI. The first—which rolled out Liquid Sand, a new glitter-glinting textured finish—was released in January with promises of a second on the near-future horizon. Well, it looks like Christmas may come early this year, you guys. Word on the street is that since we've been SO well-behaved, the second Carey-branded collection MIGHT be a whole heap of Holiday-inspired polishes, just as we’d hoped for. In case y'all have been living under a rock/stuck on a remote island sans WiFi for the past several months, the 2013 Video Music Awards are happening this weekend!!! Us New Yorkers are particularly excited because it's all going down at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and to celebrate, we're doing some killer Brooklyn-themed fashion pieces right here on MTV Style. We already dished on our Fulton Mall faves and reminisced over the Bed-Stuy-inspired fashion in Do The Right Thing, but now we're switching it up to the hottest beauty spots in BK. Since it's Manicure Monday, we figured this would be the PERFECT time to mention our favorite nail art salons in the area, and, yes, that means we won't be mentioning any places in Manhattan. (Sorry, Valley NYC!)
TOMAHAWK SALON: BUSHWICK
One of our go-to faves is the Tomahawk Salon in Bushwick. You might remember when we took y'all there to get Iggy Azalea's nails did last summer, and it's still one of our top spots to date! The main reason? Fleury Rose. The Illamasqua ambassador is by far one of the most talented gals in the hood, and you can even check out her work in action if you don't believe us!

With the start of the new month (HAI, AUGUST!) also comes the start of—wait for it—SHARK WEEK! EEEEEEE. I know you're, all, "Chill with the caps lock, and stop internet yelling at me," but we can't, y'all. This is not only an informational seven day event dedicated to our fine finned friends, but it's also an excuse to wear killer (heh) shark nail art all week long. Even though Shark Week officially kicked off last night, we've still got PLENTY of time to honor our favorite underwater predators. (Also, if you want to consider this a late homage to Sharknado, we wouldn't be mad at that either. If you don't know what we're talking about, see Google. Immediately.) Our first mani inspiration comes from Chrissy (it's not me, I swear!), and it's really, really good, guys. She not only managed to fit the words "Shark Week" on her pinky, but also included the entire Jaws movie poster on her ring finger. *bows down*
