Karen Walker

There's nothing we would love to do more than time travel. We're holding out for the possibility someday (make it happen, technology) but since the day has yet to come when we have the necessary futuristic tools at the ready, we're lucky to have Karen Walker. The designer, known for her effortlessly feminine looks, took us to the fabulous 1950s (and beyond) with her Spring 2013 collection. Walker, who takes us on a different journey each season, managed to put a modern and celestial spin on the pieces while making a nostalgic nod to the past. We're still trying to wrap our brains around the amazingness of it all, and may or may not know what year we're in right now.

Asher Levine Spring 2013

Mini MTV Style history lesson: We've been obsessed with designer Asher Levine since we first chatted him up back in 2010. The then-22 year old was already designing outfits for Lady Gaga (HUGE!), and just last year he collabed with Mother Monster's fashion director Nicola Formichetti on a line of tees that sold at his pop-up shop in Soho. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, spring 2013 fashion week hit, and we found ourselves on yacht (yeah, a YACHT) with Asher himself discussing all the deets behind his latest fashion show—which, lucky for us, would include a live performance by one of our hip-hop faves, Le1f!

Lil Kim

Looks like Lil Kim's appearance at last season's The Blonds show was no brief flirtation with Fashion Week. No ma'am, Kimmy Blanco is a bonafide New York Fashion Week staple now complete with a major FASHUN anniversary performance under her belt. We're talking, of course, about Opening Ceremony's seriously epic 10 Year Anniversary party at Webster Hall last night. Kim strolled up to the party in a black bodycon dress with some serious shoulder architecture. There's some off-the-shoulder drapery happening but also a regal popped collar for the Queen Bee. A thick row of neck and arm baubles finish off the look, but you KNOW that wasn't her only outfit for the night!

Y-3

Actually sporty sportswear is having a major moment. And it's only fitting that the adidas x Yohji Yamamoto collaborative Y-3 is celebrating its 10th anniversary at the apex of the trend this New York Fashion Week. In honor of the benchmark year, Yohji went back to an adidas x Y-3 stand-by: the classic triple racing stripe. It's an iconic design element of the adidas streetwear brand that's most commonly seen on their tracksuits and shell-tops as popularized in the '80s by Run-D.M.C., but an anniversary is an opportunity to look back but also show growth, so Yohji takes the triple stripes and reimagines them for modern sportswear. The end result is fresh, athletic, and even a little collegiate.

Rihanna performing in Jeremy Scott's M16 sunglasses on the VMAs.

What began as a typical performance flourish quickly turned into big time fashion drama when Rihanna took to the stage at the 2012 VMAs wearing a one of a kind sample of Jeremy Scott's Spring/Summer 2013 M16 sunglasses, but left without them, having tossed them into the crowd. The designer, who is showing his collection, inspired by the middle east and called "Arab Spring," at New York Fashion Week this Wednesday, took to twitter, confirming that "YES THOSE WERE [his] 24K GOLD M16 SHADES THAT RIHANNA WORE TO OPEN THE VMAs," and then imploring fans for their return by saying, " IF UR DA1 WHO CAUGHT EM PLZ GIVE EM BACK !"

Rag & Bone

When we think Rag & Bone, we think layers. Like, layers upon layers upon layers. Basically, the design duo behind the NYC-based label, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, are the masters of piling it on. If you remember last season's collection, they painstakingly put together one visually stunning mixed pattern ensemble after another, but for spring 2013, they decided to go for a much simpler, sleeker and stripped-down look. Their athleticwear-inspired shift dresses, slouchy miniskirts, and bomber jackets all have a hint of sportiness to them—whether it's the addition of an unexpected cargo pocket here or the use of jersey mesh fabric on a sculpted dress there. Even the slicked-back hair suggests the life of an active girl-on-the-go. Although the exterior emits a strong and powerful look, the black lace trim peeking out beneath a set of sculpted leather shorts or a barely-buttoned up blouse add a soft, feminine feel to the overall edginess of the ensemble.

Kendall Kylie Jenner Sherri Hill

It feels like just yesterday that both Kendall AND Kylie Jenner were making their first-ever runway debut at New York Fashion Week (Kendall at Sherri Hill and Kylie at Abbey Dawn), but really it's been a year since we saw the Kardashian kin strut their stylish stuff. WHEW. While the time feels like it's flying by, the Jenner sisters have certainly been WERKIN' it in the meantime, and we've noticed! The ladies looked flawless in their glittery, prom-ready gowns during Sherri Hill's spring 2013 show on Friday evening. Kendall sported a super sleek high bun, smokey eye and nude lip for her return to the runway, while Kylie traded in her punky pink tips from last year for gorgeous Old Hollywood side waves that we looove.

Models strutted their stuff in Google's futuristic glasses at NYFW.
Photo: Getty

The future is nearly here, and we got to take a glimpse into it at Diane Von Furstenberg's Spring 2013 show at New York Fashion Week today. Google has been slowly but surely giving us more information on their mysterious Project Glass for a while now, but there are many questions left unanswered, and for a lot of people who aren't diehard tech junkies, this might be their first look at the project within a larger context. First, a little more info: Google Glass is a device that's worn much like a pair of glasses, and might one day even be able to be worn attached to a pair of prescription shades or sunnies, that functions much like an iPhone or digital camera but is totally hands free. At the end of her runway show today, DVF herself was wearing the device, and could be seen mouthing "I'm filming you" to the lovely people in the front row (which included Sarah Jessica Parker and Bravo's Andy Cohen) as she took her bow accompanied by Google co-founder Sergey Brin. Honestly, though, we're not entirely sure how the glass works, and neither, it seems, are fans of both the glass and DVF, who, when the designer posted photos taken with it to her Google+ page, kept asking about the user interface. Do you talk to it, like Apple's Siri? CAN IT READ YOUR MIND? What we do know is that it takes pretty great photos, and the designer and her staff have been using both the photo and video functions to record on the runway and off, to be released as a short film on Thursday September 13th. Check out more photos seen "thruglass" as DVF's hashtag so poetically puts it, after the jump.

Christian Siriano New York Fashion Week

Looks from Christian Siriano's spring/summer 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week on Sept. 8.
Photo: Getty Images

Unlike Christian Siriano's dark and vampy fall 2012 collection, his spring 2013 runway was filled with tons of light pink, baby blue and seafoam green pastel pieces that screamed summer. His line included everything from work-ready pearl-accented peplum dresses to button-up brocade jumpsuits to flowy landscape print frocks. Between the tutu silhouettes, soft high buns, and blaring remixed classical music during the show, the inspiration behind the collection was clear—it was ALL about the ballet. When we caught up with Christian backstage, he told us this season's looks were about being "romantic and pretty" and inspired by the American Ballet Theatre's Dream Ballet. "It's kind of an adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream—so very dreamlike, very whimsical," he said. "The whole collection really has that kind of ballet dancer feeling." Ah ha! We knew we were onto something.
