Looks from KYE's Fall 2014 New York Fashion Week show
Photo: Courtesy of KYE

The way KYE is stylized in all caps, you'd think it was an acronym: clever shorthand for some elusive phrase apropos of EVERYTHING that you'll never be inner-circle enough to know because these clothes are THAT cool. Well, it's not. I mean, the clothes actually are 100% that cool, but KYE takes its name from the line's brilliant designer, Kathleen Kye. There's a good chance you haven't heard of Kye or her namesake label, and that's totally understandable seeing as she's only been showing for a handful of seasons and has only recently branched into womenswear. BUT we have a feeling that's aaaaall about to change very soon. I mean, look at this collection! I want to wear everything right NOW.

New York Fashion Week

Fashion shows are a circus. Granted, they're inspiring and electric—the culmination of months of hard labor and magic—but the curtain's long been pulled back on those 10 minutes of shimmering mastery to reveal the s***show behind the scenes. (If you've ever been backstage and bludgeoned by a photographer whilst trying to grab a post-show quote, you'll know what I'm talking about.)

Industry insiders (not entirely sure who that even refers to anymore) are demanding change and according to this Wall Street Journal article with NYFW show-runners IMG Fashion, some of that manic hullabaloo will be remedied. "It was becoming a zoo," says Catherine Bennett, IMG's SVP and managing director of WSJ. "What used to be a platform for established designers to debut their collections to select media and buyers has developed into a cluttered, often cost-prohibitive and exhausting period for our industry."

Guys, we can never get enough of Asher Levine. We've been obsessed with the 25-year-old designer for the past few years (yep, he's been killing it since he was 22!) thanks to his mostly black, all-leather-everything futuristic ensembles that have been spotted on everyone from Lady Gaga to Rita Ora. This season, we were PUMPED to stop by his spring 2014 show, which featured a performance by funeral pop band MXMS (members include Shiny Toy Guns' Jeremy Dawson and Ariel Levitan). Asher stayed true to his dark roots and decked out his models in human anatomy-inspired pieces. Think: Molded, muscular silhouette vests and anatomical, spiky sleeved jackets. For the accessories, Asher said, "I wanted to imagine if we could grow the accessory in a laboratory, and then skin it. What would the accessory look like with it musculature underneath?" Our answer: awesome.

Yeah, yeah, we know New York Fashion Week is officially over, but we needed a FULL weekend of recovery before we dove in and picked out the top nail art looks from all the shows—and it also happens to be Manicure Monday. (How perfect!) We have to admit, though, that this year we definitely saw designs of a whole different variety. Sure, we peeped some straight-up half moon manis (Peter Som!) and glitter gradients (Nicole Miller!), but overall we were incredibly impressed with how much designers were willing to experiment with their tips. From mechanical 3D nails to purposely-imperfect manis, we found 10 shows that totally took nail art to the next level. Check 'em out below!

OK, this image alone speaks volumes about the diversity of nail designs The Blonds had in just ONE NYFW show. Their Tweety Bird-inspired collection certainly included some on-theme bright yellow designs, but they also incorporated clear acrylics and—get this—a mechanical accent nail that came with a clear hinged door (top right). UH HUH, you can thank CND for that lovely creation.

Here at MTV Style, we're pretty shameless about our love of food. We keep a snack drawer stocked year-round. If your event includes a meal, we RSVPed last week. We're in constant pursuit of chips, but we've also never met a granola bar we didn't like. Most of all, though, we reeeeeally like when fashion and food come together. We even devoted a whole weekly franchise to it called Food Friday. Welp, for New York Fashion Week, we took that love to the next level (OK, maybe several next levels) by wearing some of our favorite food-themed clothes to the "tents" at Lincoln Center.

Trends from the 1990s: Crop-tops, faux-flannel plaid, logo gear and overalls.

Pro tip: If you wanna get a head-start on setting up your style game for Spring 2014, go home. Brush the dust off your under-bed storage bins, dig deep into your parents’ closets and recover all your siblings’ angst-ridden clothes from the 1990s. Because that decade just called. And they aren't getting their trends back. (Unless they’re calling about acid wash jeans. Then we’ll take a message.)

From Rodarte to DKNY to Alexander Wang and Rag & Bone, models in crop-tops, faux-flannel plaids, overalls and logo-gear dominated the Spring 2014 runways. Did every designer get together this summer to trade POGS and binge-watch My So-Called Life on bean bag chairs or something? Was it the Boy Meets World spin-off? The TLC biopic? The *NSYNC reunion?! Whatever the reason, '90s redux is definitely happening for Spring 2014 – and it’s all that AND a bag of chips, y’all!

Obviously, there are a gazillion photos taken at New York Fashion Week. There are pictures of the runway, front row, backstage, street style, events, and parties, but, hello, candids > posed pics. Not to be too voyeuristic about it, but photos people don't know they're in are just better. Let's play a game of I Spy, Fashion Week edition.

I'll start:

I SPY...

Our girl Karlie Kloss is an enigma of time and space. It seemed like whenever we so much as glanced at a runway, she was on it. Does the woman ever sleep? We're not sure. But we clearly have a lot to learn. Here are 11 times Karlie made Fashion Week look easy. *cries into coffee* *eats another Karlie's Kookie*

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
