Emily Browning's style evolution.
Photo: Getty Images

It was 2003 when we first spied Emily Browning, alongside fellow Aussie heavyweights Heath Ledger, Geoffrey Rush, and Naomi Watts, in the Irish-Australian tale Ned Kelly. We hardly noticed her playing the late Heath Ledger's younger sis, but then she landed the coveted role of the alluring Violet Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events, where her dreamy looks and dramatic Victorian garb stole the show. Now, not only is she winning Hollywood over with her high cheekbones and cat eyes, but her continued appearance at fashion events worldwide indicates her star is rising on the red carpets as well. (ALTERNATE REALITY ALERT: She was also considered for Kristen Stewart's role in Twilight, which might have made Bella more fresh-faced and less brooding...but what is Bella without brooding?)

On top of being breathtakingly beautiful, a young Emily once aspired to be a fashion designer, which isn't surprising given her super-curated ensembles. Her quirky outfits belie a sense of maturity beyond her 22 years, borrowing hints of vintage and retro with prints, lace (a constant Emily staple), and then a bit of cheeky flair like bold lips or ruffled socks. And though she is still young and playing girl-power roles like Baby Doll in this year's Sucker Punch, she certainly gave more "established" style stars a run for their money when she appeared at the MET Gala's McQueen Opening wearing an exquisite high-necked gown by Marc Jacobs. We went absolutely bonkers over her grown-up red carpet steez, especially since Em's a pro at more low-key, relaxed looks.

Willow Smith wearing 'Fresh Prince' T-shirts on June 28 and 26, 2011.
Photo: Getty Images

So I may or may not have a grossly unhealthy obsession with Willow Smith. OK, really the entire Smith family. I mean, they're like the living, breathing Incredibles of the non-CGI entertainment world, and I kind of want them to adopt me (you know, if I didn't already have AWESOME parents of my own who read this every day). Well, taking a cue from the Biebs, Willow has hopped on the '90s sitcom homage T-shirt bandwagon and blessed the world with a double dose of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air tees, to which we exclaim a resounding "YES!"

What sends the cute factor through the roof and absolutely crushes any other iterations of this trend (don't hurt me, Beliebers/Bieber Army/Navy) is that Willow can wear her own DAD emblazoned across her chest. Granted, I could wear an airbrushed crewneck of my dad windsurfing in coral swim trunks and a graphic neon yellow tank (if this picture lived on the internet, BETTA BUHLIEVE I would link it), but it just wouldn't have quite the same effect. My only hope is that other celeb-spawn start rocking their parents' visages à la cotton body billboards. *AHEM* Zoe Kravitz. Lourdes Leon. I'm talking to you.

Tiffani Thiessen at the screening of "Horrible Bosses" in New York City on June 23, 2011, and Justin Bieber at the 22nd Annual MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada on June 19, 2011.
Photo: Getty Images

Soooo this happened. Remember last Sunday when pop's golden boy Justin Bieber paid homage to teen icon of yore Kelly Kapowski Tiffani Thiessen via T-shirt at the MuchMusic Awards? WAYELL, the shirt (which features what is basically the '90s equivalent of the Farrah Fawcett swimsuit poster) caught the eye of the real deal Miss Thiessen who then RETURNED THE FAVOR by rocking her own Bieber tee to the NYC screening of Horrible Bosses (side note: Also like le Biebs, she wears it with a blazer, jeans, and single bracelet—mad props for the attention to detail)!! *commence face-melting awesomeness shutdown NOW* T-dawg. Gurl. You can't see it right now, but all of us here are giving you the most uproarious standing O for this move. Very nicely done. *affirmative head nod* It's safe to say that (if he hadn't already) Justin has now officially won the hearts of all the Kelly Kapowski worshippers (our hands are raised), Miss Thiessen, and also her 1-year-old daughter (who is so young she can barely form memories, but the ones she's forming are definitely aaaaall BIEBER).

Hailee Steinfeld at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, California on June 5, 2011.
Photo: Getty Images

Fourteen-year-old fashion icon Hailee Steinfeld decided to step out of her typical go-to gamine and girly ensembles (think: short and flirty frocks) and transformed into quite the dapper lady on the 2011 MTV Movie Awards red carpet. Hailee stunned in a black sequin lapel Louis Vuitton tuxedo with a crisp white tee, unlike her other tween counterparts who stuck to more effervescent ensembles. We have to give her MAJOR props for pulling off such serious trousers at 14. You guys, just IMAGINE wearing this ensemble in 8th grade. With fierce matte red lipstick. In peeptoe heels. AND wearing a glittery turquoise and black striped accent clutch. We're pretty sure when we were graduating middle school, we didn't even know what an accent clutch was.

But BEHOLD! She is a tween fashion plate and all shall bow down to her always-perfect effortless waves and too-cool-for-school attitude. But we can't help but recall that she was just dubbed the face of Miu Miu last month, and she shows up in Louis Vuitton? Veerrryyyyy interestinggggggg. Fascinating frankly *reaches over to stoke the flames of DRAMA.* We'll let you ponder that one.

Michelle Obama at the White House Correspondents' Association Gala in Washington, D.C., on April 30.
Photo: Getty Images

Dudes. I don't know how much gravitas I'm supposed to employ whilst discussing the comeliness of the first lady, especially on a day as loaded with political significance as today, but whatever the occasion, whatever the time, regardless of whatever other people wore to the White House Correspondents' Dinner, there is just no denying that Mobama looked RIDIC HOT. Right? It's basically insane. Let's break down the stats.

First of all, sure, those arms. We've been admiring that yoga divot right after the shoulder muscle for multiple seasons, so I won't dawdle there, but she's wearing a fascinating Halston dress from, like, two years ago. It's notable because it features a HELLA deep V, but it's exceptionally elegant due to its muted puce color and silky sheen. There's SOME glinting but only the amount that indicates that the dress is classy and VERY expensive. I will not delve too deeply into whatever undergarments she is working with for fear of gaucheness, but I gotta say, that kind of bias-cut fabric betrays EVERYTHING. So the fact that she's not lumpy or weirdly foamy displays a great deal of expertise. Twenty-seven points.

The hair? Extraordinary. A good eye-swoop in the front for utmost sexiness, and the large curls bring up the bob so that it not only looks as occasion appropriate as an updo but is just a lot less formal and fussy. And it's short enough that you can not only see the silver and rose gold earrings but the texture and bounce actually accentuate the curved silhouette of the jewelry as well. Eighteen points.

The necklaces however, make the look for me, and here's why. Yo, how many times can you ACTUALLY say you've seen a woman of a certain age and level of importance (who is NOT an actress or fashion designer) NAIL on-trend jewelry this hard? The layered chains (all her jewelry is by Irit Design BTW) are awesome, and the dripping portion that calls attention (but not too much attention) to her décolletage is resoundingly smoking. Forty-five bajillion points. Bonus points for being the EXACT right level of boob-ish.

Nicely done, Michelle Obama. You command the respect of those around you as your man commands the searing envy and bile of dudes around you both.

Jennifer Lopez at Best Buy in L.A. on April 19.
Photo: WENN

Oh man, you know what I love about Jennifer Lopez? It has nothing to do with the fact that she was named People's Most Beautiful Woman, or whatever, because SURE. It also has nothing to do with the fact that she is a judge on "American Idol" even if I love this guy's coverage of it SO MUCH. It's the fact that here she is, lamping at a Best Buy, promoting her album wearing a Christian Cota BANDEAU, black Tibi pants and a gray TopShop slouchy blazery cardigan thing. Now, despite it not being our strong suit, let's go ahead and do some math. This woman is 41 years old. She had TWINS. That is TWO babies. TWO. Relatively simultaneously. She housed human sentience IN STEREO. And yet, her 100 percent empirically incredible genes and countless crunches means that she can look like this.

Bonus? The fact that this chick, again, because she's Jennifer Lopez, looks totally DIGNIFIED in a tummy top because her cropped, pleated trousers are tailored to fit her beautifully while showing the slight sheen of truly marvelous suiting fabric. And her asymmetrical jacket looks gloriously deconstructed in a way that whispers to either Japanese or Belgian origins. BUT that's not even true since her gray thingie is high street and just looks designer. I guess that's what it's like to be Jennifer Lopez these days. You can work a three-fer pack of nothing cotton tees like it's Jil Sander by virtue of oozing regal-assness like it's no big deal. It's like rubbing a dollar bill on her will turn it into a fiver. Magic. If she ever figures out how to bottle the secret, I'd buy it. Unless, it's like a million dollars and only for millionairesses. Or if the accompanying infomercial isn't up to the caliber of incredibleness that I know in my heart she is capable of. <3 You JENNAY. Nicely done.

2011 LOOKS:

Mia Wasikowska at the "Jane Eyre" premiere in New York on March 9, at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in Los Angeles on Feb. 27, at the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 26.

Twenty-one-year-old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is a critical darling much beloved by everyone from EW to Variety and touted as a "rising star" and "person to watch." We're totally onboard seeing as she mad cute. The bananas thing about Mia, who some of you may remember from Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland and Lisa Cholodenko's The Kids Are All Right, is that last year she was the SECOND-highest-grossing actor as ranked by Forbes. Uuuuuuh, that means she tied with Johnny Depp and was bested only by Leo DiCaprio. In. Sane. (Sidebar: We are sososososososo excited about Jane Eyre which opens right now. Peep the trailer here.) And as much as we doff our hats to her financial accomplishments, let's take a wee look at her awesome sense of style. *Sigh* she's so good.

OK, so first of all, we've got her 2011 looks thus far. Award season gave us some gorge frocks, and Mia kills with her daring choices. She always skews high romance with lace, overlays, sashes and structure, but the thing that pulls everything together is her unfailingly correct sense of proportion. No matter how much drama the dress brings, Mia owns the ensemble with sleek hair, minimal accessories, and spot-on shoes. Aplomb all over.

It's not every day that you have a starlet who not only dresses appropriately for her age but can be so confident as to avoid chicken-cutlet cleavage and trashtastically weird amounts of leg. She obviously has the body to flaunt all the assets, but Mia's love of pleasing lines and strategic points of interest gives her an ladylike appeal that never feels costumey.

Mia does definitely love her lace, and there's nothing like cleverly placed bits of tulle and mesh for anchoring the more ornate portions without stealing their thunder. Also, again with the lines. Mia's dresses are truly pieces of art and compelling for how they draw and guide the eye.

More architecture. More risks. More hints at possible space alien-ness. The one truly great thing about Mia's choices is that they clearly have a vision. The overarching theme is never about looking "nice" or "pretty" or "thin," and the result is entirely open for debate. Mia cites Tilda Swinton as an inspiration, and there are definitely parallels to their unorthodox senses of style.

Suuuuuuper fascinating to see from whence she came. What do you think about the longer hair? LOL at headband and ballet flats on the far right... even if she was, like, 2 1/2 years old in that shot.

+ So, do you love her so hard or what? Tell us in the comments!

Katy Perry at the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Ready-To-Wear Autumn/Winter 2011/2012 show in Paris on March 8.
Photo: WireImage

There are many things jockeying for our attention in Katy's ensemble (those Ray-Ban Clubmasters are very omnomnom), but the thing we heart most desperately is the INCREDIBLE Jean-Charles de Castelbajac fan. It's like The Dude's rug. Really ties the room together and is super easy to DIY. And by DIY, we mean, buy it and/or wait until some enterprising soul rips it off renders an homage.
