Angelina Jolie, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry, Bjork, Gwyneth Paltrow, Oscars

Angelina Jolie, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry, Bjork, and Gwyneth Paltrow wore memorable Oscars dresses.

We're not sure if you could tell from the QUADRILLION movie fashion articles we've been churning out for the past few weeks, but we are suffering from MAJOR Oscars fever here at MTV Style. With the 2013 Academy Awards RIGHT around the corner (this Sunday, y'all!) our anticipation of all the history-making red carpet togs is reaching inexplicable heights. We are SO sugar high crazy off the waiting, guys. Or our anxious snack-consuming disease... I DIGRESS. Because the Oscars put the final glamorous cap on the winter awards season, Hollywood's best and brightest save their most show-stopping sartorial numbers for this event, and the results are truly dazzling. To quench our thirst for Oscars fashion, we took a look back — from Angelina Jolie's black velvet Versace Atelier last year (#neverforget Angie's Right Leg) to Michelle Williams in stunning yellow Vera Wang for the 2006 show, from Halle Berry's risky but drop-dead sheer bodiced 2002 Elie Saab to Bjork's infamous Marjan Pejoski swan dress to the unforgettable image Gwyneth Paltrow in baby pink Ralph Lauren way back in 1999, and everything in between — and put the most memorable red carpet ensembles from the past 20 years together in a pretty little photo gallery for you to click through endlessly. That is, until the action starts THIS YEAR with our 2013 Oscars red carpet fashion live blog. Enjoy!

Jennifer Lawrence

After counting down for what seems like forever, the 2013 Academy Awards are this Sunday night! And you'd better bet our eyes will be zoomed way, WAY in on Jennifer Lawrence. This year the star is nominated for her incredible performance in Silver Linings Playbook, which marks the second time she's up for the Best Actress trophy (she nabbed a nom in 2011 for Winter's Bone but lost out to Natalie Portman in Black Swan). There's no question J.Law has been killing the fashion game onscreen and off these days, and we can't WAIT to see what she turns up in this weekend. But in addition to placing bets on which designer she'll choose (Dior? Viktor & Rolf?) and getting your Oscar night plans squared away, here's one more thing to make the time fly: take a trip down Jennifer's red carpet memory lane! We've rounded up her most iconic style moments, from back when she was just a baby-faced Kentucky teenager ALL the way up to as recently as this week, proving just HOW far she's come. See for yourself in Jennifer Lawrence's red carpet style evolution below!

Quvenzhane Wallis

Quvenzhané Wallis says puppy purses are "her signature."

This year's littlest Oscars Best Actress nominee, Quvenzhané Wallis, initially captured our hearts in the riveting indie Beasts of the Southern Wild, and as we've soldiered on through awards season, she's caught our eye as a rising style star. Her red carpet steez strays infrequently from her go-to cocktail frock + shiny flats + curls, but one style element that's definitely a constant in her public appearance outfits is: a plushy puppy purse! During a recent stint on The Ellen Show, Quvenzhané revealed to DeGeneres that she has "about 20" different puppy purses, and confirmed that she will be toting one at this month's Academy Awards. "Yes, of course," she told Ellen, "That's my signature! I've had this since Utah." Utah! She's referring, of course, to last year's Sundance Film Festival when and where Beasts premiered.

We love movies. We love them for their fashion, for their stories, but also for all of the glitz and glamour that surrounds them, including, of course, the red carpets. And what's the red carpet to end all red carpets? I mean we hardly even have to answer that question, do we? The Oscars, of course! Well, the nominations were announced yesterday (MTV News has the full list), and we're already chomping at the bit to see the dresses that float down the carpet come February 24th. With a best actress category that includes both Oscar veterans and newcomers, it's going to be a good year, we think. Between Jennifer Lawrence, who was nominated in the same category in 2011 and regularly appears all over MTV Style; Quvenzhané Wallis, who is the youngest person to ever be nominated for Best Actress at just 9 years old; and Emmanuelle Riva, who will be the oldest person nominated in the category at 85 years old, there are a lot of firsts and a lot of familiar faces. Jessica Chastain, who regularly tops our top looks lists and got a Supporting Actress nom last year, will be pulling out a killer look without a doubt; and Naomi Watts, who is a two time best actress nominee, always breaks out the old hollywood glamour. Let's take a look at some of our nominees past looks!

JENNIFER LAWRENCE

When she was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Winter's Bone in 2011, she became, at the time, the second youngest actress to be nominated in the category. She was just 20 years old. For her first Oscars, Jenny wore a super simple but super sultry long red Calvin Klein gown and kept her hair and makeup understated and youthful. She's been on many a red carpet since then, between other major movie roles and, of course, The Hunger Games series, but we think Jennifer will go with a similar approach to this year's awards. Like her character in Silver Linings Playbook, Jennifer isn't afraid to take risks, but she also has a style all her own. We would love to see her amp up the glam factor, maybe with some old Hollywood flourishes, but we're not sure how HER that would be. Nevertheless, we're sure she'll surprise us with her look.

If the 2012 Oscars wasn't enough to satiate your red carpet appetite, we have just two words for you: After. Parties. Our favorite post-show shindig was definitely the Vanity Fair Oscars party. Glammed-up gals filed in donning chic couture ensembles, impeccable locks, and flawless makeup. Check out our top late-night looks below, and let us know YOUR favorite frock in the comments.

Lily Collins was certainly the fairest of them all in her nude and azure blue lace brocade Monique Lhuiller gown. The Mirror Mirror star oozed elegance with a soft swept-back updo, statement brows, long lashes, and a light pink lip. She sported minimal accessories and let the dress do all the talking.

Whew, it was a loooong 2012 Oscar night. From a fash parade of Best Dressed lovelies to Angelina Jolie's leg workin' the red carpet (and Oscar stage) like a seasoned pro, it was an evening full of style sensations and straight-up style shenanigans. And it didn't stop with the actual awards show, either. As you know, there are many post-Oscar bashes to attend, and Elton John's annual dinner, in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, is always a celeb- and musician-friendly fave. This year's event drew everyone from Miley Cyrus and Sky Ferreira to Katy Perry and Nina Dobrev. Also? It was an evening awash in silver sparkle and matte black panache.

Angelina Jolie Dress

Ladies and gentlemen, we witnessed a phenomenon at the 2012 Oscars tonight: Angelina Jolie's right leg. From her arrival on the red carpet to presenting onstage, she just could not stop hitching her hand squarely on her hip to pop out her svelte gam ALL. NIGHT. LONG. Posing with Brad Pitt? POP. Solo red carpet shots? POP. Reading from the teleprompter? POP. Sitting in her seat? POP. Nah, just kidding, that would look tawdry (but CONSISTENT!). Angie's black Atelier Versace strapless, zigzag bodice with a hiiiiiiiigh-thigh slit was the perfect curtain to showcase her scene-stealing limb, and the structure of the bustier provided endless hand placement possibilities.

Our favorite time of year is here! We're talking about the 2012 Oscars, aka the Academy Awards, also known as the closest thing fashion stylists get to competing in the Olympics. Watching the nominees and Hollywood royalty waltz down the red carpet in all their fairy-tale princess glory is our sport of choice, and we've been glued to the pre-show proceedings ready to decree the fairest of them all. We were captivated by giant crimson bows, voluminous blood orange confections, lace trains, and a particular prince who broke the black tuxedo spell with some swoon-worthy velvet panache. It wasn't easy *wipes sodden brow* but here, without further ado, are our Best Dressed looks of the night.

EMMA STONE IN GIAMBATTISTA VALLI COUTURE

Dear Emma Stone, YOU WIN. In the category of Best Vivid Oscar Dress of Classic Feminine Delight, you get the imaginary MTV Style golden button statue. Not only was this crimson Giambattista Valli gown a triumphant choice due to the gargantuan halter neck bow, elegant silhouette, and undulating floor-grazing hem, we were particularly taken with the poise in which you wore it. Look at the relaxed arms anchored by that single diamond bracelet, the subtle makeup that highlights the skin yet doesn't detract from the gown, and the side-swept hair that is at once classic and crowning in a complementary strawberry hue. We're smitten, bowled over, and utterly transfixed by this ensemble. BRAVO to one of the most stunning gals of the night.

We've already dished on all the best-dressed ladies who graced the Oscars red carpet, but we just can't deny all the gorgeous tress trends that topped their glamorous looks. From super chic, chin-length bobs to sleek, high ponies to soft, side-swept waves, stars flaunted all sorts of cop-worthy coifs that we want to try ASAP.

BOLD BUNS

First up: the fail-safe high bun. Rooney Mara, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lopez, and Tina Fey all showed off their dome adornments in impossibly chic ways. Rooney went for a sleek, tucked-under ponytail with shiny, blunt bangs, which starkly contrasted her soft, white Givenchy gown. Emma opted for a deep side part and pulled her fiery strands into a big, coiled bun. She kept her hair simple in the front as to not compete with her Giambattista Valli high-neck bow dress. If you could tear your eyes away from J.Lo's curve-hugging Zuhair Murad gown, you'd notice her on-point, super thick (and tight!) crown bun. Tina Fey went for a messier look in a teased pompadour bun paired with her navy Carolina Herrera strapless dress.
