Mugler Fall 2012

Goodness, will you just give me a moment so I can offset spatula my molten face off the floor? Swooooons, guys. How good was the Muger show? Did you stream it on from their Facebook page like I've been haranguing you all week on Twitter to do? I hope so because it was kinda amazing. First of all, I loved that there was sound and you could tell it wasn't some weirdo dubbed version because you could hear people shifting around in their chairs. The energy of people getting ready always sucks you right into the voyeurism aspect which is great because who doesn't LOVE intimacy?

Having talked to creative director Nicola Formichetti earlier this week, we knew that the Mugler F/W 2012-2013 collection was inspired by "insects" because the musical director of the show Ryuichi Sakamoto told us so (more on the music later) but it's one of those things where "bugs" so often get translated into butterfly prints so I was delighted to see full-on, 3D, tough-looking exoskeleton bits, pointy shoulders, strong thorax, as well as the willowy, somber-faced, purposeful models marching in these massive, yet, delicate shoes at a clip that looked very much like albino ants fording a formica counter top. Glorious.

Kanye West is confirmed to show at Paris Fashion Week.
Photo: Getty Images

BIG NEWS. Kanye West is showing another collection at Paris Fashion Week! According to today's WWD, West will return to Paris to show his namesake collection, KANYE WEST (it's just his name, y'all, let us never, ever in a million light years evahhh make the mistake of calling it "Dw" again), at 9:30 p.m. on March 6. Even though it will not be on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar, it will run on the sidelines of the shows. As you might remember from his Paris fashion debut last year, Yeezy was nervous and the fashion critics were harsh, but we're glad to see him pulling through to give it another go whatever the case. You might also be familiar with the fact—per his triumphant Twitter rant—that the KANYE WEST collection had no financial backing or PR as of a few months ago, so the future of his foray into fashion design remained uncertain.

But, ladies and gentlemen, the power of #DONDA has seen him through! KW is back and, hopefully, better than ever with his new creative conglomerate company crowdsourced and powered by anyone who might have emailed that Gmail address he tweeted on that fateful rant of a night. We're hoping he's put together a winning team of enthusiastic (and talented) peeps who will help make his dreams of being a real designer to contend with come true. We're also mega jazzed to see if there will be anymore sweater heels, jetpack fur bags, mixed silk trousers, and snarling dog jackets that may or may not have been slightly derivative of a certain Givenchy Rottweiler T-shirt, but that's neither here nor there. We LOVE and BELIEVE in you, Kanye. Get up there and show Paris whatcha got!

Karl Lagerfeld Florence Welch Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld and Florence Welch at the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week on Oct. 4.
Photo: Getty Images

Ever since the unveiling of the Chanel spring 2012 collection at Paris Fashion Week two days ago, the MTV Style staff has been in full-tilt swoon about the majesty of the 'Enchantment Under the Sea'-dancesque theme of Karl Lagerfeld's show. I mean, the Kaiser fully unveiled Florence Welch in a frickin' clam shell on some Boticelli's Venus ish which just goes to show that Uncle Karl is the G.

There was flowing, iridescence GALORE with wee scintillating pearls gracing the faces of the girls to where they had labret piercings and Madonna piercings IN PEARL and it was SO Man Ray's 'Tears of Glass' EXCEPT that there were even shiny, dew-droppy SPINAL COLUMNS on the moddels which gets into space alien territory that rules. Seriously, watch this behind-the-scenes video and use a spatula to scrape your face off the floor because it hath molten into a puddle of ZOMG.

Kanye West, Carine Roitfeld, and Ciara at the Irreverent Dinner hosted by Carine Roitfeld in Paris on Oct. 4.

If you're going to say goodbye for eternity to the Paris Fashion Week spring 2012 collections, you might as well throw a vampire ball, right? Clearly Halloween isn't the only time of year to wear fake fangs and a black cape (couture, of course), especially when it's for a party being hosted by—and in honor of—former Paris Vogue editrix, Carine Roitfeld, the queen of vampy glam herself. Guests like Kanye West (fresh from his Paris Fashion Week debut) arrived in their noir-ish best, some even choosing to accessorize with mouth-blood for a chic yet spooky effect. Others, like Ciara in a TO-DIE Givenchy Haute Couture cape, chose to glamour guests into submission by looking ridiculously gorgeous.

Louis Vuitton Spring 2012

Models sit on a carousel at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 Paris Fashion Week show on Oct. 5.

Leave it to Marc Jacobs to close Paris Fashion Week with a triumphant carousel fantasyland BANG of a show for Louis Vuitton that had everyone speculating even more about his rumored move to the house of Christian Dior. If there's anyone in fashion right now who puts on a SHOW (we're talking full-on theatrics, as also evidenced at New York Fashion Week), it's Mr. J, the reigning king of modern (yet still totally cool) luxury. His only peer in this department currently is Karl Lagerfeld, who also creates spectacular fashion week shows of the more classic luxury variety at Chanel. (Former Dior designer John Galliano would probably also be included in this category were he still at the helm of the label). But seriously, A GIANT WHITE CAROUSEL filled with models in the prettiest of pastel frocks? We think this grand gesture might have some meaning...

Paris Fashion Week Hair

Today is officially the last day of Paris Fashion Week, which means we'll be spending these upcoming (dark) months (in mourning) getting all riled up for the next Fashion Week season. We'll attempt to incorporate as many Spring 2012 trends into our wardrobes immediately (like, say, bright lips, striped nails, and chocolate brown hair), and we'll be fantasizing about the most INSANE moments on the Paris runways. From double horns (double unicorns?) to sweater heels and seashell clutches, some of the looks said "HAYYY!" and others "NAYYY," but either way, we were undeniably inspired by the carnival of CRAY parading down le runway (yes, we meant every single one of those rhymes). Please allow us to break it all down for you, oui?

Anna Dello Russo Kanye West

Well, that was fast! Just three days after Kanye West's debut show at Paris Fashion Week, Vogue Japan Editor At Large Anna Dello Russo turned up in one of Ye's ensembles STRAIGHT from the runway—and we mean head to toe. She's wearing a Dw by Kanye West plunging, fitted black dress, "Yeezi" gold nameplate necklace, and THOSE amazing white beaded stilettos. She also wore her hair down and stick straight directly over her chest (perhaps to cover any...slippage? What? Hair doubles as an accessory sometimes.), with minimal makeup and absolutely no other accessories. We kind of love this look on Anna (especially paired with our favorite shoes from the collection!) and find it quite ballsy that she wore this ensemble to an Alexander McQueen show.

Alexa Chung and Jared Leto at the Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2012 Paris Fashion Week show.

As Paris Fashion Week draws to a triumphant close, we can't help but pull sad faces as we bid adieu to what has truly been a season of sophisticated shenanigans. Who can forget the recent emergence of a diamond gap-toothed Gaga or Kanye's Fashion Week debut? Sigh, we can't, and we don't want to. But if there's anything that can lift our spirits in these soon to be darkest of dark non-Fashion Week days, it's Alexa Chung and Jared Leto throwing down with insane, MATCHING front row style at not one but two Paris shows. Is it just us or is something going on here?

Minx Nails Dress

So, we're obsessed with Minx nails (if you haven't already noticed) because they are SO. FREAKING. COOL. Trying to do nail art like that on your own is basically impossible, and you can switch up your look in a snap since they're press-ons. But we thought Minx nails were for, you know, just nails. We had NO IDEA these crazy tips could transform entire outfits! Last week, French designer Charlie Le Mindu showed his collection at Paris Fashion Week, which featured items *gasp* made completely of Minx nails! Just LOOKING at one of Charlie's dresses (above) you can tell tons of time went into creating these ensembles—each nail is different! The creators painstakingly covered each nail tip with not one, but two layers of Minx, which resulted in using more than 30,000 press-ons. Minx co-founder Dawn Lynch-Goodwin said, "Because each coating was layered over a metallic Minx base, it took twice as long to prepare the Kiss nail tips, but the metallic sheen combined with the hair graphic truly made the dress look like it was rippling down the runway." The GORGE cobalt blue crew neck cap-sleeved dress with blue fringe was just the beginning of the Minx creations, though. Check out the endless possibilities of nail couture!

Chloe Sevigny walks in the Kenzo Spring/Summer 2012 Paris Fashion Week show with brown hair.
Photo: Getty Images

From New York and London to Milan and Paris, it's been a jaw-dropping, GAH-stopping, color-rollicking Spring 2012 Fashion Week season. One of the shows we've been anticipating since it was announced that Opening Ceremony honchos, Carole Lim and Humberto Leon, would be revamping it is the Parisian (by way of Japan) label Kenzo, which made its new and improved debut at Paris Fashion Week this weekend. From the models welcoming guests by waving from windows to roving cinematography by Spike Jonze and music curated (and drummed to) by Jason Schwartzman, this was (in our humble opinion) the COOLEST show of the season. Not only did the collection include giant fishnet covered caps, high-heeled loafers with the toes cut out, and layer upon layer of structured, short-sleeve-coated genius, it also had the presence of the QUEEN of indie kewl, Miss Chloe Sevigny, rocking not only a bright blue jumpsuit that we needed to own five seconds ago but also BROWN HAIR.
