If you're not familiar with the curtain skirt, that's probably because it only makes sense to wear one if you are a female pop star performing on a stage. Like, I'm pretty sure not even Miley Cyrus would wear one in public. As a matter of fact, I'd say the curtain skirt is definitely more of a costume piece than a functional garment, because IMHO, it isn't even an ~actual~ skirt—more like an unfinished peplum. The curtain skirt is usually worn with a bodysuit and can vary in length and coverage, as demonstrated by both Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea this weekend at Wild Jam in San Jose, California.

Ariana and Miley get in the holiday spirit for Jingle Ball in Minnesota.
Photo: Getty Images

Deck the halls with crop tops and high-cut leotards, y'all. Minnesota's Jingle Ball happened in St. Paul last night, and BOY, did things get festive. Now I like an ugly Christmas sweater just as much as the next person, but Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus took holiday cheer to a whole new level with their uber-yuletide outfits. And, as you might expect, one of them was naughty and the other was nice. (Although we're sure Santa appreciates the sentiment, regardless.)

Selena Gomez

Don't worry, Selenators, Selena Gomez didn't actually cut her hair! It does kinda seem like she's toying with the idea, though, unless she's attempting to create a Sasha Fierce-esque onstage persona for herself. I mean, early in November, Flaunt magazine released those pictures of her with a blunt bob, and now, almost a month later, she's performing wearing a very similar wig. Or maybe the same one? IDK, maybe she "borrowed" it from set. We would be all for the drastic 'do (you know we love us some may-jah hair news), but we ALSO can't forget the follow-up video to her Flaunt spread, where short-haired Selly was searching for her longer-haired self.

Selena hit the stage in Dallas in a white bralet/hotpants combo similar to the outfits she's been wearing all tour, but her hair was noticeably, like, 10 inches shorter. We would've thought she cut her hair for real, but an hour earlier, her mane was its usual glamorous length.

He rocks Tom Ford.
Photo: @kodaklens' Instagram

ICYMI: Jay Z doesn't pop Molly, he rocks Tom Ford. Oh. You've heard his song "Tom Ford," and you already knew that? Well, apparently, Jay doesn't think we got the message. Or maybe he just loves Tom Ford THAT much. Or, even more likely, Mr. Carter realizes that his words are good enough to wear. Last night, Jay Z kicked off his Magna Carta World Tour in St. Paul, Minnesota and took to the stage in a custom, black and white jersey tee emblazoned with lyrical references to his standout hit, "Tom Ford." Hov repped the designer's name on the back of the shirt, along with Ford's birth year (1961) and the word "Molly" crossed out.

Miley Cyrus at the 2013 American Music Awards.

Oh hey, Miley's eyebrows. Welcome back. We thought we'd lost you there for a minute. PHEW. The return of Miley Cyrus' dark brows was the first thing that caught our eye when she took the stage to perform "Wrecking Ball" at tonight's American Music Awards. The SECOND thing we noticed, though, was that her outfit matched her HIGH-larious screen visual from head to ACTUAL toe. (Also, if matching is "happening," BRB I need to go change my socks.)

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga swapped her purple Versace gown for a sparkly ensemble during her AMA performance of "Do What U Want" with R.Kelly. As the Marilyn Monroe to R.Kelly's JFK (yeah, R. Kelly played the president in this American-inspired performance because DUHHHH), Gaga began the performance in a sequined jacket, which she quickly removed to reveal a matching dress. Very ice skater chic: getting in the Winter Olympics mindset, eh, Gaga? ME TOO.

One Direction

Does anyone know what vitamins One Direction takes? What magical concoction gives them the ability to host a 7-hour livestream for 1D Day yesterday and then roll up to the AMA Red Carpet looking fresh, coordinated, and as cute as ever? Because HEYYY, I WANT SOME.

For their arrival, the guys stuck to a black and grey palette, but in varying forms of dressiness: Harry had on a tuxedo jacket, while Niall had on a charcoal bomber jacket. Liam, as usual, had on an inexplicable trench coat. All five guys wore tight black jeans and, unusually, Harry's weren't ripped at the knees! These must be his formal jeans. Louis, as always, skipped socks because having smelly feet must be his ~thing~. Zayn's turtleneck was not out of place, despite being in L.A., because, as you may have heard, it's 61 degrees there and all Angelenos are freaking out about the cold front. If Zayn gets too cold, Liam could lend him his coat. He always has one with him.

OHHH. So, THAT'S what her cherry blossom mic was all about. Katy Perry opened the AMAs with a dramatic performance of her new single, "Unconditionally," and we're starting to get the impression that she's ~quite~ the film buff. I mean, her music video for the song was FILLED with movie refs and now this? Pass the popcorn, girl. In what appeared to be a direct nod to book-turned-movie, Memoirs of a Geisha, Perry wore a light pink flower-covered kimono (which matched her mic) and danced with a purple floral parasol (which matched the purple flowers in her hair). So much matching. The set was made to resemble Japan, with cherry blossom flowers falling from the sky throughout the duration of her performance.

Katy Perry gets prismatic.
Photos: Getty Images

Yesterday, Katy Perry announced via Twitter that she'll be spanning the globe in 2014 to support her new album, Prism, on the Prismatic World Tour (which kicks off in London in May). Obviously, our response was: MEOW! Also, YAY! The release of Perry's fourth studio album has ushered in a new era of style for the chameleonic singer, who's long been a courageous pioneer of rainbow-colored hair and exaggerated sartorial statements.

Since she first started promoting Prism a few months ago, Katy's typically been rotating three thematic looks: 1.) Tiger Style—which reflects "Roar," her first single off the new album and has been worn for several live performances of the song 2.) '90s Schoolgirl Steez—which is trending HARD right now and is usually rocked during non-performance appearances and 3.) "Perfectly Prismatic," the most literal interpretation of her album title—iridescent, mirrored, a Lisa Frank visual spectacular. So which look will she choose to sport on tour?

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus at the 2013 Bambi Awards in Germany.
Photo: Getty Images

Last night, Miley Cyrus arrived on the red carpet of the 2013 Bambi Awards in Berlin dipped in a floor-length, black, scoop-neck, Jean Paul Gaultier dress from the late-90s. I love this look. In fact, I love when the blonde, Bangerz bombshell elects to wear clothes. It's not that I give a fig about her "messaging" and the "impact she wields on impressionable female minds" when she shuns pants or tops (or both) as she frequently does, it’s more that she's so damned uniformly '90s when she's wearing enough textile that you can suss out her personal style (not that her birthday suit isn't from the ’90s as well [1992 in fact], but you know what I mean).

It's an era that I’m hugely fond of and one at which Miley's particularly good. Between gem-studded vintage Dolce & Gabbana leggings for the VMA red carpet and the shiny, silver mock turtleneck, long-sleeved, knee-length situation (with matching creepers) from the EMAs, this velvet-rolled, cuff-and-collared number from a decidedly The Fifth Element design era from the French designer is just an excellent look. In fact, it's kinda dorky from a fashion perspective (in fact, I'm fairly sure this dress is from JPG's gender-bendy Maille era which is very 'inside baseball').

It’s clear that Miley Cyrus is comfortable with her body so when she uses it as a springboard to take up an unorthodox amount of space or cut an unexpected witchy, spacy silhouette, I get a frisson of excitement about what to next expect from her. It's not unlike when she first chopped off her hair. It’s akin to when Rihanna wears head-to-toe menswear or tucks a flannel tied around her waist INTO her jean shorts. If Miley spends the next week expressly in dresses that LE1F would also look AWESOME wearing, I'd be very happy.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
