Critic's Choice Awards Fashion

Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, and Chloë Moretz at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards in L.A. on Jan. 12.

Last night's Critics' Choice Movie Awards was BURSTING with one beautiful ensemble after another (here's the best dressed list if you don't believe us), but we couldn't help but notice a colorful trend buzzing on the red, er, gray carpet. It seems our favorite celebs couldn't stop turning up in either black or yellow themed outfits. (Cue: Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" video STAT.) On the darker side of the spectrum, Kirsten Dunst, Evan Rachel Wood, and Chloë Moretz went for all-black ensembles. Kirsten sported a stunning Christian Dior layered tulle frock with matching black peep-toes and a pop of pink on her pout. Evan Rachel Wood looked SO romantic in a strapless lace Valentino gown with upswept hair and minimal accessories (well, minus that GIANT engagement ring. Get itttt!). Chloë went cute couture (as we like to call it) in a furry-sleeved, tea length Chanel dress with a beaded collar and pinned-back hair.

Tonight's 2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards marks the second event in a flurry of awards shows that began with last night's People's Choice and will continue through to the Academy Awards. Winter doldrums be damned, this January-February one-two punch provides some of the most spectacular fashion that any stylette could ask for. The CCAs proved to be exemplary, showcasing some of the canniest style decisions, the best of which we've rounded up right here. Check 'em out.

Michelle Williams was a vision of clean Karl Lagerfeld tailoring in this stark black and white Chanel gown on the CCA red carpet. The dramatic panels are modern, but the color palette and banded waist keep the look classic and timeless. Her wispy flaxen pixie and natural peachy makeup help to complement and not compete with the bold silhouette.

Tonight's People's Choice Awards officially kicked off the whirlwind season of step and repeats, sequins, beading, and major red carpet FASHION. As expected, the fan-driven PCAs coaxed the year's brightest starlets of film, television, and music out in droves. From Lea Michele to Chloë Moretz to Demi Lovato (who were ALL also People's Choice Award winners), the red carpet arrivals glittered with a grip of covetable looks, and these are our top 10 ensembles of the night. Let's go.

Since opulent evening-wear haus Marchesa dressed her at last year's Emmy Awards, Lea Michele opted for the designer again for the PCAs. The Glee star pushed her locks to one side for an asymmetrical old Hollywood 'do with a deep side part, minus the finger waves. The wink to retro beauty was the perfect complement to her stark white '20s Art Deco-inspired beaded fringe dress.

Demi Lovato People's Choice Awards

Demi Lovato was on fire at the People's Choice Awards tonight. Ever since she dyed her luscious locks a deep crimson hue, she's been sporting every shade of rouge in the spectrum. This evening she stunned on the red (heh) carpet in a coral pink ruched chiffon Marchesa gown with a rhinestone-encrusted bodice and a soft, flowing train. She swept her hair back in a low chignon with a high pouf and left a few strands free for a delicate vibe. For her accessories, she went with a sparkly beaded gold clutch and heels paired with a KILLER sultry smokey eye and a smize that cannot be denied. Mid-show she changed up her look for something a little bit edgier, but remained undeniably glam.

We're going to go ahead and call it. When it comes to People's Choice Awards fashion it's all about GANG GREEN in 2012. Vibrant shades of kelly, emerald, and jade dominated the red carpet on no less than FIVE lovely ladies who shimmered in all their jewel-escent glory in everything from fitted sheaths to lady tuxedos (Hi, Emma Stone. YOU WIN. Won? Yes, all of the above!) From Nina Dobrev's elegant cocktail number to Chloë Moretz's bright green, black, and white bouclé situation, we learned that green is most definitely the color to envy.

9:12pm — Emma Stone being AMAZING in a kelly green, black lapel Gucci TUXEDO. OKAY this is a little loosey goosey, but we're totally bleeding into live blogging the show now. Consider that a HOUSEKEEPING ANNOUNCEMENT.

Lea Michele and Jenna Ushkowtiz at the FOX All-Star party in Pasadena.
Photo: Getty Images

Even though Glee isn't set to return until Jan. 17, the lovely ladies of New Directions stepped out to celebrate the show for the FOX All-Star party over the weekend. Lea Michele was awash in cerulean blue while Jenna Ushkowitz enlivened the brown carpet (ew) in vivacious tomato red (delish). While we're happy to hear Rachel Berry is returning to Season 4 of Glee (Lea spilled the news via her Twitter feed), we're also Gleeking out that two of our faves chose to wear the boldest, brightest colors for this dreary month of winter. Both looks pop, and we can't decide which of the two we prefer: mermaid blue or superhero red?

If there is a quintessential category for our Best of 2011 roundup, it would have to be red carpet dresses. Yes, they're ubiquitous and have become something akin to a sporting event when debuted at awards shows (well, at least to us style-obsessed folk), but we love them nonetheless, especially when they arrive well-heeled and brimming with craytastic drama. There were many statement dresses, gowns, cocktail getups, what have you this year, but we've chosen a select group that truly stood out and commanded attention on their own. From bold cuts and eclectic color to safety pins and (BUMPIN') surprise reveals, here are our picks for the best red carpet dresses of 2011.

If there was one dress (and one girl) that truly exemplified fresh this year it would have to be Emma Stone and her dusty peach Calvin Klein Golden Globe dress. Yes, 2011 was a very good year for Miss Stone, but when she hit the crimson carpet in this totally unexpected pastel ASSAULT of minimally structured, 1960s-era muted loveliness, she truly arrived. We can remember OMGing with crazy, stupid, love at the audacity to not only go with such an abnormal color but to take it a step further by pairing it with pale makeup, lipstick, and hair. (That's BOLD, y'all.) In our humble opinion, she was the best dressed of the night in this ladylike silhouette and will be the one we measure everyone else up to this awards season.

That headline seems almost head-smackingly "DUHHHH," right? I mean, if I were attending, let alone performing for, an event with "DIVAS" in the name, a word so fecund with high-maintenance, red-clawwed, femme dominance, OF COURSE, I'd bury myself in yards of metallics, fur stoles, and the world's butteriest leathers. Florence Welch, Jessie J, and Mary J. Blige are already, day-to-day, three of the most show-stoppingly clothed ladies of late, so we expected nothing short of being totally floored by their VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul outfits. Much to our delight, the trifecta did not disappoint, pulling out all the attention-commanding stops for their red carpet and (*cough* multiple) performance looks for an ascent to ear-poppingly dramatic FASHUN.

Florence Welch glittered down the red carpet in a sequin-drenched white-nude dress from the Antonio Berardi spring 2012 collection. As if being steeped in shimmer were not enough, her long-sleeved mock turtleneck dress also featured an eye-catching full mullet hem. Jessie J dared to wear one of Falguni & Shane Peacock's notoriously provocative creations from the spring 2012 line. The black and gold gown is panelled with sheer black fabric of varying degrees of transluscent and emblazoned with ornate and *achem* strategically placed gold embellishments. Originally a midi-length, Jessie added the lower black ruffle to extend the dress to floor-length. Mary J. wore head-to-toe fall 2011 Michael Kors, pairing a slinky ruched nude gown splattered with rhinestones under a MASSIVE blonde fur jacket.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
