Models on the runways for the Derek Lam, Prada, and Vena Cava Spring 2011 shows.

Here's a good one: What do you get when you mate a ballet flat with a platform? A "flatform"! Hahaha...nudge-nudge...wink-wink. All joking aside, flatforms just might be the next big thing in footwear. In fact, recently reported that dozens of models were seen stomping down many a Spring 2011 runway, including Derek Lam's, Vena Cava's, and Prada's, wearing flatforms. But, other than singer (and known fashion risk-taker) Robyn, who was spotted performing in flatforms last year, there haven't been many celebs slipping their tootsies into this tall order footwear. Why not? Who knows. Since they're flat, they're super-comfy; they're versatile enough to be worn with anything from corduroys to flippy skirts; and they make the vertically challenged (us!) appear taller. What's not to love?

Chloe Sevigny in Christian Louboutin on Jan. 12, Jessica Szohr in Christian Louboutin on Jan. 6, and Kerry Washington on Jan. 10.
Photo: Getty Images/WireImage

Despite being in the gray days of winter, the red carpet saw a jolt of color this week in the form of fabulously vivid footwear. Chloe Sevigny brightened up our day when she posed in a pair of fiery orange wrap-up Christian Louboutin sandals, while Jessica Szohr's hot pink Christian Louboutin peep-toe platforms brought a blast of color to her white and black ensemble. And it was hard to miss Kerry Washington's electric blue ankle booties—they stood out even next to her shiny, sequined minidress. All of these shoes made us smile (how could they not?!), but which pump did you think popped brightest this week?

Beige was one of 2010's trendiest hues, and now, it's carried over into 2011 in the form of footwear. Taylor Swift stepped out in nude ankle wrap Prada heels to the People's Choice Awards, while Whitney Port rang in the New Year in neutral, strappy buckle Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. And Selena Gomez also chose the creamy color this week in beige peep toe platform Giuseppe Zanotti pumps. We're loving all of these neutral-but-never-boring looks, but which is your favorite?

Lil Wayne at the BET's 106 & Park New Year's Show on Jan. 1.

We predicted last summer that Pharrell Williams, M.I.A., or one of the Jonas Brothers would be the first to wear these cuddly kicks in public. Well, we were WAY off. Designer Jeremy Scott tweeted that Lil Wayne (yes, the same LIL WAYNE with neck tattoos) was the first person to step out in the snuggly sneakers (the rapper wore them during his New Year's Eve performance on BET's 106 & Park). Here's our new prediction: The $328 Adidas high-top/teddy bear slipper hybrids, which Lil Wayne teamed with jeans, a varsity jacket, a pants chain, shades, fitted cap and fingerless brown gloves, just might give Uggs a run for their money.

Dick Clark may be the pioneer (and a darn good one at that), but he wasn’t the only celebrity helping to ring in 2011. Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and B.o.B were also having a rockin' New Year's Eve. In case you missed them, here’s a cheat sheet of who helped host what and, most important, what they wore.

Shine, sparkle, shimmer...oh my! J. Lo partied with her hubby Marc Anthony at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas wearing a super-shiny form-fitting shift. Showing off her new fab figure in a red-hot dress, J. Hudd shared hosting duties with Fergie, who wore a strapless green studded minidress with a tulle train. Meanwhile Kim Kardashian sparkled in a white glittery dress, which she teamed with classic pumps and smooth, wavy strands.

Even though most of their fellow revelers dressed in above-the-knee cocktail dresses (see above), Rihanna and Kourtney Kardashian chose to go against the grain in long dresses that were equally dazzling. Rihanna, who celebrated at PURE Nightclub at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, wore a striped and mesh dress in a strand-matching hue. Meanwhile Kourtney, who hosted at the Gansevoort Hotel in Miami wore a bilowy, mono-shouldered Bodyamr gown.

It's no wonder Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha wrapped themselves in something warm—both singers wore short shorts on New Year's Eve. While performing on BET 106 and Park's New Year's Eve Party, a green-and blue-haired Nicki wore white fur boots, light blue tights, a jacket and daisy dukes set and a blue and silver bustier. Ke$ha showed off two New Year's Eve looks—preperformance on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" show she wore green "2011" glasses and her now-signature blue lipstick; during her performance she wore bright red lipstick with sequins shorts and a white button-up. In between, she threw a full feather jacket around her shoulders to keep from freezing.

Stilletos on New Years? No way! Not for Willow Smith and Avril Lavigne, who both performed on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" show wearing snazzy sneakers. Willow wore leopard print high-tops, while Avril wore a one-shoulder leather dress with studded black footwear.

While girls typically show a little skin for NYE in cute cocktail dresses, boys tend to bundle up. Exhibit A and B: B.o.B walked the red carpet at the Jet Nightclub at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas wearing a plaid button-up, a red scarf, a leather fur-trimmed jacket and a fur ski hat. Meanwhile, rapper Flo Rida kept his tan puffy coat ON while performing at MTV's "New Year's Bash."

Sequins is having its time to shine, especially RIGHT NOW as we approach New Year's Eve—and we're not talking about just your run-of-the-mill black sparkle. This year's sequins comes in fun, vibrant hues, making it even easier for you to stand out in a crowd. If you want to look like a disco ball or a cast member on Dancing With the Stars, we won’t judge (promise!), but the general rule of thumb for wearing sparkle is to limit it to one piece per outfit. Here are a few more tips on wearing this hot trend, plus links to our fave bedazzled finds.

WEAR A CLASSIC SILHOUETTE: Plan on going all out in a sequins dress? Choose one in a basic shape like a shift. With all that glitz already going on, you really don’t need the extra bells and whistles (i.e. ruffles, pleats, puff sleeves).

MIX AND MATCH: A little sequins goes a long way, so rock a standout piece, like a skirt or blazer, with something simple like a plain white tee.

Vanessa Hudgens on Yves Saint Laurent on Dec. 18, Keri Hilson on Dec. 22, Ciara in Christian Louboutin on Dec. 16.
Photo: Getty Images/WireImage

Black was anything but basic when it came to celebs' shoes this week. Stars favored the classic shade with standout embellishments and shiny finishes. Vanessa Hudgens stepped out in funky, chunky patent leather platform pumps by Yves Saint Laurent, while Keri Hilson went for gold studded peep-toe booties that really popped with her all-black jumper. We also loved Ciara's spiked Christian Louboutin stilettos with big bows that were fiercely feminine. This trio of heels was hardly run-of-the-mill, so which was your favorite?

Purple reigned on the red carpet this week with the gem tone showing up in soft satin fabrics on the feet of celebs like Victoria Justice, whose bright amethyst Brian Atwood pumps proved to be the highlight of her look (even next to her dramatic glittery dress). Michelle Williams went with a darker plum shade for her stacked platform Charlotte Olympia shoes—a great contrast to her winter white dress. We also loved Kristen Bell's eggplant Salvatore Ferragamo heels, which complemented the floral designs of her dress to a T. As a whole, the vibrant color was a fresh alternative to the usual black or tan, but which purple pump is your style pick?

Shoes have a way of making or breaking an outfit, and this year, we saw a number of style stars turning to fabulous footwear to finish their red carpet looks. From studded, embellished heels (favored by America's Next Top Model winner Eva Marcille) and colorful platforms (worn by Ciara) to pretty, feminine Mary Janes (we're looking at you, Emma Roberts!), 2010 was certainly a memorable year for shoes. Let's take a look at some of our favorite trends.

CRAZY HEELS: Blake Lively and Ciara added major drama to their dresses by pairing them with crazy, funky heels. Blake went for lucite Lanvin wedges, while Ciara chose black-and-white studded heels.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN STUDDED BOW PEEP-TOES: These Christian Louboutin studded bow peep-toes were by far the most POPULAR shoes of the year! They were seen on fashionistas of all ages, including stars such as Heidi Klum, Ashley Tinsdale, Dakota Fanning, and Dania Ramirez.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN MESH LACE BOOTIES: Lace dresses have been a popular trend on the red carpet recently, but we also like the style on shoes! Jessica Alba and Stephanie Pratt both wore these Christian Louboutin mesh lace booties to events this year, adding a nice touch of texture to their outfits.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN LEOPARD BOOTIES: We LOVE leopard here at MTV Style. And seeing these hot leopard print Christian Louboutin booties, which were seen on everyone from Kim Kardashian to Olivia Palermo to Ciara, helped feed our obsession.

MIU MIU MARY JANES: Camilla Belle and Emma Roberts both chose a classic style—the Mary Jane—for red carpet events in 2010. These pretty Miu Miu shoes, which are adorned with a cute bow, added major romance to their outfits.

RUTHIE DAVIS SPIKED HEELS: There seemed to be a bit of a Goth revival in fashion this year, with stars like Lucy Hale sporting sexy, black spiked heels with their girly dresses. We love the edgier shoe with more feminine shifts—it's such a fun way to mix and match trends.

VERSACE PLATFORMS: Platforms can have a tendency to look dated. But Ciara's patterned Versace shoes looked nothing short of fabulous at a BET event on June 26. We love how the colorful shoes totally added flair to her basic tee and jeans ensemble.

GASOLINE GLAMOUR STUDDED EMBELLISHED PUMPS: When you opt for a classic dress, there's no better way to glam it up than with festive footwear. We ADORED these shiny, studded pumps by Gasoline Glamour, which Eva Marcille wore with a beige frock at the BET awards in June.

LACE-UP COLOR BLOCK HEELS: Leighton Meester rocked a vibrant blue frock to Fashion's Night Out in September, and she made it a head-to-toe color affair by choosing these booties by Christian Louboutin. So fierce!

YVES SAINT LAURENT BLUE PUMPS: Blue was a popular hue this year and no heels were as popular as the Yves Saint Laurent Palais pumps, which were seen on stars like Carey Mulligan and Ke$ha (who added goat fur trim to hers for video flair).

Anne Hathaway in Jimmy Choo on Dec. 6, Elle Fanning in Valentino on Dec. 7, Emma Roberts in Miu Miu on Dec. 3.
Photo: Getty Images/WireImage

Celebrities dazzled on the red carpet this week, stepping out in stunning, sparkly footwear. Beautiful gowns took a backseat to the shiny shoes, like Anne Hathaway's silver shimmery Jimmy Choo platform sandals (that matched her equally glittery dress, natch). And how adorable are Elle Fanning's rhinestone encrusted bows on her Valentino kitten heels?! We also flipped for Emma Roberts' hot pink glitter Miu Miu heels, which added a bright pop of color next to her black sequined Miu Miu frock. All three ladies sparked our interest, but which embellished look was your favorite?
