Often when we think of Paris Haute Couture (you know, as we do), we imagine the world's best designers going buck wild, cobbling together teetering two-story-high platform heels, dreaming up dresses that look more like architectural masterpieces than cocktail party wear, and concocting hairstyles that seem to defy all laws of physics and gravity. The designs that traipse down the runways during this biannual City of Lights affair are often too fairy-tale fantastic for us to ever envision pulling off IRL. However, that doesn't mean there aren't real trends buried in the bells and whistles and Hot Wheels racetrack harnesses of Paris Haute Couture Week, though. Walk with us as we unpack some of the week's most relevant trends!

Nearly every designer at Haute Couture Week had a version of the jumpsuit, and most were printed, embellished, or constructed from metallic jacquard. Many of the long-pants onesies were also long-sleeved, like these looks from Zuhair Murad, Jantaminiau, and Valentino. But, a few, like this number by Jean Paul Gaultier, modelled by Karli Kloss, were strapless with a jacket worn over top.

Rihanna's monochromatic street style on June 24, 27, and 28, 2012.

Well well WELL, Rihanna! Don't think we haven't noticed your little street style trend as of late. We're on to you and your monochromatic ways. Wearing one hue head-to-toe like it just happened that way or something. We almost weren't going to say anything until we saw you step out in London in this all-black everything (no, really) ensemble last Thursday - black Brooklyn Nets snapback (a display of pure Roc Nation love, no doubt), black wayfarer shades, black tee, black warmup suit, black Air Yeezy 2s. Seems easy enough, right? WRONG. Anyone who's tried to put together an entirely black outfit knows clothes come in varied shades of black with green, red, and blue undertones, it's an almost-impossible feat to accomplish. That is, unless you're Rihanna.

Rihanna, Blake Lively

Rihanna and Blake Lively both wore red suits. Who did it better?
Photo: Splash News

The head-to-toe red suit look is as rare as it is bold. Not for the faint of heart, the all-over scarlet steez is oft reserved for the likes of Kanye West à la his 2010 Video Music Awards performance outfit. HOWEVER, over the course of 24 hours, not one but TWO lovely ladies tried their hands at the tricky look. Rihanna wore a red suit last night while out and about in London and Blake Lively, too, appeared in one on Good Morning America. The outfits are rooted in similarities, but subtle details differentiate the looks. We want to know, though: who do you think wore it better?

Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Adam Lambert, Darren Criss

Leather pants + summer is a combination that doesn't often bring about the most pleasant of mental images. Actually, the only images they bring to mind (for the MTV Style staff, at least) make up a constant loop of that episode of Friends wherein Ross tries out a pair of leather pants, overheats, and winds up totally unable to put them back on. Either Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Adam Lambert, and Darren Criss missed that episode or they sincerely believe themselves immune to Ross's plight because all four of these dudes have sported thick, leather pants this month.

Rihanna, Azealia Banks

This weekend, the London borough of Hackney played host to a major two-day music extravaganza put on by BBC Radio 1. The festival, cleverly titled Hackney Weekend *WINK*, attracted music heavy-weights (like Rihanna) and rookies alike (enter Miss Azealia Banks), not to mention a sea of well-clad concert-goers which obviously included the two aforementioned fashionistas. Serendipitously, both Ri and Banks opted for the growing Egyptian trend this weekend, but we want to know who you think wore this look best.

The 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards may not have been the Selena Gomez x Lady Gaga outfit parade that was last year's event. And Justin Bieber may have swapped out that Kelly Kapowski tee for his baby brother Jaxon, but the Canada-based MMVAs still soldiered on a fashion-filled awards show.

Selena Gomez, Lucy Hale, Nelly Furtado

Mini-dresses are a pretty universal summer staple, but judging from the MuchMusic red carpet, the key to keeping the look on-trend is going bucking prints and patterns, going straight for the solids. Selena Gomez fudges the lines a little with this gold embellished spaghetti strap number, but keeps the hue head-to-toe to maintain uniformity. Lucy Hale test-runs the hottest silhouette of the season - the peplum - in a rich bordeaux, while Nelly Furtado sticks with stark white in this ruffled strapless bodycon.

Although they might seem like unlikely headgear for a human, antlers have certainly had their fashion moment.
Photo: Azealia Banks' Tumblr/Marie Claire/Getty

We were really excited when Azealia Banks joined Tumblr. We love Tumblr, and we love Azealia Banks, and also knowing how totally entertaining the vocalist is on Twitter, we knew that giving her a little more room couldn't be anything but AWESOME. Well we were right, and one of the most scream-worthy Azealia Tumbls was definitely the still from her video for "Liquorice" in which she's sporting some profoundly impressive antlers. The first thing we thought of was definitely True Blood's season 2 Menad storyline, but we also had a little itchy inkling in the backs of our minds that this was not the first time reindeer-style had come across our desks. After a little digging, we remembered! In her September 2010 Marie Claire cover story, Mary Kate Olsen sported an Anne Valerie Hash antler headpiece in one of the photos, accompanied by loose, slightly disheveled locks and a fierce warrior stare. When Lady Gaga went antler-crazy, she perched sharp looking white antlers atop a furry hat for an appearance in London in 2010. The singer also wore oversize shades, red lips and a see through, apparently plastic, frock. Despite the outrageousness of the dress, though, the antlers still take hold the spotlight of the outfit.

Okay, so according to the calendar, summer doesn't officially start until June 20th this year. But we're not playing by those rules, because our minds are already in vacation zone...and so are our closets. We're not the only ones trading wintry wares for breezy light-colored pieces, because three of our favorite leading ladies recently stepped out at the Young Hollwood Awards in their own variations of seasonal staples. Hailee Steinfeld led the pack in a Prabal Gurung silver pantsuit with a floral applique embellished front. It's a bold choice for the teenager (she's only 15!), but let's be honest here: the Romeo and Juliet actress has already proven her high-fashion cred in last year's Miu Miu's ad campaign, so if ANYONE can pull off the statement look, it's Hailee. Prabal's sleeveless top and bootleg pants might be hot off the Fall 2012 runway, but on the fresh-faced starlet, the entire outfit just screams summer.

Emma Watson, Jaime King, Miranda Kerr

Emma Watson, Jaime King, and Miranda Kerr have all worn surf-inspired clothing this month.

Even if you're totally landlocked, have never stepped on a surf board in your life, and think that "Hang Ten" is a new type of nail art, it doesn't matter. It's time to step outside and soak up the sunshine! Summer is here, and with it a slew of surf-inspired duds. Emma Watson, Jaime King, and Miranda Kerr have all channeled Blue Crush and put their own chic spin on these beachy staples. While the trend may have history on the beach (not to mention, in Lindsay Lohan's new film), but now surfer gear has officially gone high fashion. It started a few seasons ago on the runways of Proenza Schouler and Rag and Bone, but now it's infiltrated the red carpet. who better to kick off the trend than Miss Watson, who rocked new designer BROOD to the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month? The Perks of Being a Wallflower star totally killed it on the red carpet in her peplum frock, splashed with a watercolor-esque marble print. We loved it SO much, we wrote an entire post dedicated to it, and it's worth a second shoutout.

Kirsten Dunst Katy Perry Ashlee Simpson Floral Headband

Ladies, it looks like springy floral headbands are officially a thing, and to be honest, we couldn't have planned a more on-season trend if we tried! Kirsten Dunst, Katy Perry, and Ashlee Simpson have all sported dainty flower hair accessories as of late, which is a totally fresh take on the floral crown look (à la Lana Del Rey). And YES, the two are different! Crowns made of flowers are perfect for music festivals and fancy photo shoots, but we like how these ladies sported a more wearable version of the trend. Kirsten Dunst wove a gold and pearl flower headpiece into her braided updo, which matches perfectly with her white floral appliqué frock. Love! Katy stepped out in a '90s-inspired red dandelion print dress and studded motorcycle jacket ensemble, but added a touch of softness with her white rose headband. Ashlee Simpson looked all-out springy in her sheer white dress and twiggy headband, but we can't help but think—where can we snatch up one of these cute hair pieces for ourselves?

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
