AnnaLynne McCord, Leighton Meester, and Halle Berry are just some of the actresses who’ve recently brought the power suit trend from the 1980s back in a very modern and sexy way. By choosing well-tailored cuts, festive fabrics, and girly footwear, these ladies prove that sporting a menswear look can be just as flirty and feminine as a cocktail dress.

ANNALYNNE MCCORD: We love how structured AnnaLynne McCord’s look was for the People’s Choice Awards press conference on Nov. 9 in West Hollywood. Her gray tailored trousers pair perfectly with her poufy-sleeved shirt. The blue tie, crimson belt buckle, and red pumps add fun flashes of color to her otherwise neutral ensemble.

LEIGHTON MEESTER: For the Gotham Independent Film Awards, Leighton Meester opted for a traditional menswear look, choosing a black Thom Browne suit, which she wore with a classic white shirt and a loosely knotted tie. But the Gossip Girl actress kept it girly with Salvatore Ferragamo heels.

HALLE BERRY: Halle Berry opted for a Balmain suit from the label’s Fall 2010 collection when she attended the Frankie and Alice premiere in Los Angeles. The actress let her jacquard suit shine by choosing a simple black blouse and pumps.

JESSICA ALBA: Jessica Alba skipped the shirt underneath when she wore a black Dolce & Gabbana suit, which she teamed with studded Christian Louboutin pumps to the Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City last month.

WINONA RYDER: Winona Ryder also went for head-to-toe black in a Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci suit, which she paired with a stain clutch and a dramatic silver necklace.

HALLE BERRY (PART 2): Halle Berry attended The Hollywood Reporter’s Annual Power 100 event celebrating women in entertainment in a pinstripe Dolce & Gabbana suit. She finished the look with a Gucci halter in neutral tones and a leopard print Jimmy Choo "Mandah" bag.

ANNALYNNE MCCORD (PART 2): AnnaLynne McCord looked white hot at the Spike TV awards in Los Angeles, where she showed up in a loose boyfriend blazer and flared pants. The actress spiced up her all-white look with a leopard print clutch, plus the same red pumps from her earlier menswear look.

JESSICA STROUP:The menswear-inspired jumpsuit that Jessica Stroup wore to Charity Ball in New York earlier this month looked elegant with pleating and a plunging neckline. She kept it clean with black satin pumps. So pretty!

Kate Middleton on Dec. 18.
Photo: Getty Images/Temperley London

Thanks to future-royalty Kate Middleton, it's now completely acceptable for grown women to want to dress like princesses. Today the term connotes stylish frocks and chic accessories, instead of poufy ball gowns and pink tiaras. Case in point: Kate wore a $1,393 cream and black silk chiffon Temperley dress with three-quarter length sleeves to a charity gala event with Prince William on Dec. 18. She accessorized with a velvet fitted blazer, sheer tights and a mini-clutch. Want to look like a princess for a day? Unfortunately, the long-sleeve Temperley dress from the designers Fall 2009 collection has sold out. But, you can get the look (and save some $$$) with Temperley's short-sleeve blush silk-chiffon look-alike ($897, TheOutNet.com). But you might want to hurry, princess!

+ Do you like Kate's royal style?

Do you remember that "No White After Labor Day" rule? Yeah, well, it didn't really apply in 2010. This year (from summer to winter) it was all about the Little White Dress. Celebs such as Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba chose the clean, crisp shade in everything from belted cocktail dresses to curve-hugging strapless shifts. Little Black Dress, you might want to watch your back!

ONE SHOULDER: The one-shoulder look was clearly having a moment on red carpets. Celebs like Selena Gomez and January Jones showed just how flattering the neckline/collarbone-revealing style could be by wearing it with little (if any) jewelry.

BELTED: Jessica Alba's white dress collection runs deep (it was her favorite color to wear out and about). But the fashionista also has a TON of belts, which she used to brighten her look and cinch her waist.

A-LINE: It's no wonder Elle Fanning, Ashley Greene, and Carrie Underwood all chose this ladylike silhouette—it's flattering on ANY body type. If you're thin, it creates curves; if you have curves, it makes them look hotter.

STRUCTURED HIPS: Whitney Port and Anne Hathaway created the illusion of an hourglass shape in white dresses with hip-slung ruffles. So sneaky!

POUFY: In addition to great hair and acting ability, we bet Dakota Fanning and her younger sister, Elle, share fashion tips, too. They were both spotted in voluminous/vintage-y toile dresses, which they both paired with black heels.

Shimmery Tights.
Photo: Macy's, Urban Outfitters, Hot Topic, Zappos Couture

Are we the only ones getting bored with our solid black tights? Yeah, we didn't think so! Get out of a hosiery rut by slipping into an eye-catching sparkly pair, instead. And, don't worry, glittery leg warmers are just as versatile as your usual opaque versions. The trick is to keep the rest of your outfit unfussy so that your legs don't have to compete for attention with, say, a lacy, crystal-embellished frock with puff sleeves and a bow around the waist. In no particular order, here are our favorite ways to wear shimmery tights...

+ Under a sweater dress! HUE Glitter Tights ($20, Macys.com).
+ Peeking through ripped jeans! Lurex Striped Tights ($14, UrbanOutfitters.com).
+ With short shorts and tall boots! Anna Sui All Lurex Tights ($26, Couture.Zappos.com).
+ With a little black dress! Silver Sparkle Tights ($10, HotTopic.com).

+ How do you wear glittery hosiery?

The little black dress is, without a doubt, a fashion staple. Some might even say it’s the ONLY fashion staple. And this past year, we saw celebrities and fashionistas rock the LBD in a number of gorgeous styles, from embellished minis like those worn by Olivia Palermo to leather frocks like those on Jessica Alba. Let’s take a look at our favorites.

KRISTEN STEWART: Kristen Stewart attended theTwilight Saga: Eclipse screening in a long-sleeve RM by Roland Mouret Fall 2010 dress adorned with plum and silver embellishments. The actress finished her look with classic black pumps—so elegant!

VANESSA HUDGENS: Vanessa Hudgens proved she’s not afraid to show a little skin in this strapless black mini with cutouts on the side. The dress may have been on the simple side, but Vanessa spiced it up with festive strappy sandals and a wrist-full of bangles.

AUDRINA PATRIDGE: Romance was the theme of Audrina Patridge’s black dress, which had exaggerated puff sleeves and a pretty side bow pinned at the waist.

EMMA WATSON: Emma Watson went for a super feminine frock while co-hosting an event in New York City last March. The Harry Potter actress chose a black Christopher Kane number made of leather and lace and decorated with a blue, pink, and yellow floral pattern.

KELLY OSBOURNE: Kelly Osbourne attended a Teen Vogue party in a simple black shift with ruffle details on the skirt. The rockstar daughter made the look glam by wearing her hair up in a chic bun and carrying a sparkly green clutch.

KIM KARDASHIAN: Kim Kardashian stepped out in a strapless, fitted number at a party in West Hollywood last August. And the best part of the look? Kim picked leopard print peep-toe pumps to give her outfit a fun flair.

Leighton Meester on July 6, Ciara on Dec. 16, and Olivia Palermo on Oct. 18.
Photo: Getty Images

Leighton Meester, Ciara, and Olivia Palermo have been rocking rebellious, biker-chic (long-sleeve and LEATHER) versions of the little black dress to recent events. Leighton Meester attended the Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 show in Paris in a number by the famed fashion house. Her frock was adorned with gold embellishments along the neckline, hem and sleeves, and she finished the look with black and gold Christian Louboutin ankle booties. Meanwhile, Ciara and Olivia Palermo went for a more streamlined, basic look without any details. To add oomph, Ciara played up her ensemble with hot pink polish, and Olivia chose a bold necklace and a bright red clutch. While all three ladies looked gorgeous, we think Leighton Meester wins this style matchup. We loved the festive details on her dress, and the fact that she carried the black and gold theme all the way down to her footwear! But what do you think?

+ Who wore a long-sleeve black leather dress the best — Leighton, Olivia, or Ciara?

Purple reigned on the red carpet this week with the gem tone showing up in soft satin fabrics on the feet of celebs like Victoria Justice, whose bright amethyst Brian Atwood pumps proved to be the highlight of her look (even next to her dramatic glittery dress). Michelle Williams went with a darker plum shade for her stacked platform Charlotte Olympia shoes—a great contrast to her winter white dress. We also loved Kristen Bell's eggplant Salvatore Ferragamo heels, which complemented the floral designs of her dress to a T. As a whole, the vibrant color was a fresh alternative to the usual black or tan, but which purple pump is your style pick?

Shoes have a way of making or breaking an outfit, and this year, we saw a number of style stars turning to fabulous footwear to finish their red carpet looks. From studded, embellished heels (favored by America's Next Top Model winner Eva Marcille) and colorful platforms (worn by Ciara) to pretty, feminine Mary Janes (we're looking at you, Emma Roberts!), 2010 was certainly a memorable year for shoes. Let's take a look at some of our favorite trends.

CRAZY HEELS: Blake Lively and Ciara added major drama to their dresses by pairing them with crazy, funky heels. Blake went for lucite Lanvin wedges, while Ciara chose black-and-white studded heels.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN STUDDED BOW PEEP-TOES: These Christian Louboutin studded bow peep-toes were by far the most POPULAR shoes of the year! They were seen on fashionistas of all ages, including stars such as Heidi Klum, Ashley Tinsdale, Dakota Fanning, and Dania Ramirez.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN MESH LACE BOOTIES: Lace dresses have been a popular trend on the red carpet recently, but we also like the style on shoes! Jessica Alba and Stephanie Pratt both wore these Christian Louboutin mesh lace booties to events this year, adding a nice touch of texture to their outfits.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN LEOPARD BOOTIES: We LOVE leopard here at MTV Style. And seeing these hot leopard print Christian Louboutin booties, which were seen on everyone from Kim Kardashian to Olivia Palermo to Ciara, helped feed our obsession.

MIU MIU MARY JANES: Camilla Belle and Emma Roberts both chose a classic style—the Mary Jane—for red carpet events in 2010. These pretty Miu Miu shoes, which are adorned with a cute bow, added major romance to their outfits.

RUTHIE DAVIS SPIKED HEELS: There seemed to be a bit of a Goth revival in fashion this year, with stars like Lucy Hale sporting sexy, black spiked heels with their girly dresses. We love the edgier shoe with more feminine shifts—it's such a fun way to mix and match trends.

VERSACE PLATFORMS: Platforms can have a tendency to look dated. But Ciara's patterned Versace shoes looked nothing short of fabulous at a BET event on June 26. We love how the colorful shoes totally added flair to her basic tee and jeans ensemble.

GASOLINE GLAMOUR STUDDED EMBELLISHED PUMPS: When you opt for a classic dress, there's no better way to glam it up than with festive footwear. We ADORED these shiny, studded pumps by Gasoline Glamour, which Eva Marcille wore with a beige frock at the BET awards in June.

LACE-UP COLOR BLOCK HEELS: Leighton Meester rocked a vibrant blue frock to Fashion's Night Out in September, and she made it a head-to-toe color affair by choosing these booties by Christian Louboutin. So fierce!

YVES SAINT LAURENT BLUE PUMPS: Blue was a popular hue this year and no heels were as popular as the Yves Saint Laurent Palais pumps, which were seen on stars like Carey Mulligan and Ke$ha (who added goat fur trim to hers for video flair).

When it came to locks, this was the year of experimentation for our favorite celebs. Emma Watson did the BIG CHOP, Lady Gaga went gray, and Willow Smith whipped her hair. And once they did it, we all followed suit!

TOP KNOTS: It's no wonder star after star, including Vanessa Hudgens, Whitney Port, and Lea Michele, adopted this ballerina style as their own. The high bun is quick and easy to do, it's completely chic, and it gives tired eyes an instant lift. What more could you ask for in a hairstyle?

RAINBOW BRIGHTS: From cherry red (like Rihanna) to berry blue (like Katy Perry) instead of drinking the Kool-Aid, stars looked like they were dumping it on their heads. The overdose of color was shocking, yes, but oh so fun!

OMBRE: Celebs such as Rachel Bilson and Lauren Conrad were able to rock their roots confidently thanks to this dye do. The low-maintenance look featured long, dark roots that lightened to a sun-kissed hue at the ends.

FUNKY STRANDS: Necklaces and bracelets took a backseat to "hair accessories," like Katy Perry's pink and blue highlights, Beyoncé's glitter strands, and M.I.A's colorful ombré do.

GRAY HAIR: While others hunted down and plucked renegade gray strands, Kelly Osbourne, Lady Gaga, and Pink embraced their gray 'dos (dyed, of course!).

CHOPPED: At one point it seemed like an epidemic—long-haired celebs lopping off their locks in favor of short pixies and bobs. We all speculated why stars like Emma Watson would go short (for a role? to rebel?). Then we realized it didn't matter because their new dos looked hot!

Clockwise from top left: Keira Knightley at a 'Last Night' party in Rome on Oct. 28, Ashlee Simpson at a Decade Denim launch in Beverly Hills on Nov. 2, Scarlett Johansson at the Mango Fashion Awards in Barcelona on Oct. 20, and Emma Watson 'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows' premiere in London on Nov. 11.

ADD-ONS: From skinny headbands and sparkly barrettes, to big-and-bright bows, seeing celebs in standout hair accessories made us feel like kids again.

BRAIDS: Year after year, braids make it onto "best of" lists. And while this year was no different, there were some plait styles that took center stage—Whitney Port's hairline braids, Kim Kardashian's fishtail braids, and Heather Morris' milkmaid braid.

WILLOW SMITH'S WHIP-WORTHY STRANDS: With the release of Willow Smith's hit single "Whip My Hair," the punky 10-year-old's grown-up fashion sense (and her myriad of hairstyles) was thrust into the spotlight. And she became the cool little sister we all wish we had.

POMPS: We know exactly where Snooki's hair bump went...Kelly Osbourne, Ke$ha, Janelle Monae and Rihanna borrowed it, rocking their own versions of the high style.

Soon the ball will drop on 2010 and we'll ring in a brand spankin' new year full of menswear-inspired trousers and honeysuckle-colored blouses (so say the trend forecasters). But before "old acquaintance be forgot" we'd like to take you back—back to the fashion and beauty moments of 2010 that made us smile (Rihanna's red hot hair), laugh (Katy Perry's snowman performance ensemble), and say to ourselves "WTF?!" (Lady Gaga's meat dress).

First up? Top trends. From the mono-shoulder to tutu ensembles, these were the looks that we spotted over, and over...AND OVER again. But, you know what? We never got tired of seeing them reincarnated to fit different celebrities' unique personalities.

CUT OUT DRESSES: Walking around in torn clothes used to be uncouth. In 2010, however, wearing a slashed, Zoro-treated dress, like those ofRoxy Olin, Leighton Meester, AnnaLynne McCord and Audrina Patridge, looked sexy and fresh.

Roxy Olin at the Fashion Fighting for the Cure party in New York on Oct. 6, Leighton Meester at Fashion's Night Out in New York on Sept. 7, AnnaLynne McCord at the AFM party in Santa Monica, Calif., on Nov. 5, and Audrina Patridge at 'The Hills Live: A Hollywood Ending' finale event held in Hollywood on July 13.

LACE: The dainty, vintage-y fabric showed up in all kinds of hues, from the more traditional whites and creams that Lauren Conrad and Taylor Swift wore, to the red carpet-matching crimson Michelle Williams wore.

LEOPARD: From Keri Hilson's casual-cool blouse and Rachel Bilson's shoulder-showing gown, to Rihanna's fitted top and pencil skirt combo, animal prints turned basic pieces fierce.

ONE-SHOULDER: It's no wonder TONS of celebs, including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Kristen Stewart and Miley Cyrus, bared arms in single-strap dresses and jumpers—the one-shoulder silhouette is easier to wear than strapless frocks and just as gorgeous.

Rihanna at an after-party in Hollywood on July 21, Kim Kardashian at the Teen Choice Awards in Universal City on Aug. 8, Kristen Stewart at a 'Welcome To The Rileys' screening in New York on Oct. 18, and Miley Cyrus at 'The Last Song' premiere in Los Angeles on March 25.

SHEER: Stealing the spotlight was a cinch for Kristen Stewart, Florence Welch and Stephanie Pratt, who were just a handful of stars who strategically showed some skin in partially see-through sheaths.

TUTUS: These full-bodied mini-skirts weren't just for ballerina's and three-year-olds. While Rihanna and Christina Ricci attended parties and benefits in the girly getup, Katy Perry performed in tutus...more than once!

PRINTS AND PATTERNS: Many stars, like Lea Michele, Whitney Port, and Keira Knightley, shelved their monochromatic looks for fun florals, mixed graphics and poppy mosaics.

SEQUINS: It didn't matter if they were gold, silver, or bronze, stars (including Amanda Michalka and Audrina Patridge) who wore glam sequins cocktail dresses were all winners.

BEIGE: Beige used to be boring. Not anymore! Mila Kunis and Olivia Wilde wore glamorous gowns in the hue, while Blake Lively and Frieda Pinto made the shade fun and flirty.

UNDERSTATED SEXY: Finding the perfect balance between bum and rico-suave became the goal of guys in Hollywood. With just the right amount of wrinkle in their suits and looseness in their ties, Alexander Skarsgard, Andrew Garfield, and Jake Gyllenhaal were just a few of the MANY stars to pull it off perfectly.

I love these two as a couple. What a festive way to celebrate two important events in their life. Mariah looks like a dream.
