One Direction in black, white, and red at the 2013 VMAs.

Accentuating black and white with a red pop is a tried-and-true, low-maintenance way to make a real style statement—particularly if you're coordinating with other people, but don't want to look too matchy-matchy. No grown dude wants to look like the Olsen Twins circa It Takes Two (unless you do, in which case, go forth!). At the VMAs tonight, two separate man-crews (One Direction and the trio of Robin Thicke, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar) put together impeccable complimentary ensembles, and as far as who might have done it better, they're neck and neck.
Rihanna loves her some grills. On Instagram (where else?), she just debuted her new gold grill, in the shape of an AK-47. On her bottom teeth is just a thin layer of gold, covering the very top of her teeth, but the top row? That's where she's getting creative. This isn't the first time Ri has worn grills: she wore a gold and diamond grill in her "You Da One" video, she threw a more subtle, simply gold one to go out to dinner last year, and she also showed off a diamond one earlier this summer. Ri wearing two simultaneously, though, is a less common affair, so she's def stepping up her game (good thing, because her game was so low...JK, all my grills are made of gum wrappers and orange peels). It's not the first time that she has shown off her affinity for firearms, though: she has a small gun tattooed on the side of her ribs, and last summer, she stepped out with a tattoo of a falcon, drawn in the shape of a gun, on her inner right ankle.
Way better than a 500 Benz, AMIRITE?

Happy Friday, y'all! We're kicking this one off with everyone's favorite NOM-focused shopping franchise: FOOD FRIDAY! *tosses up fistful of glitter and French fries, follows with jazz hands* On the menu this week, we have the MTV Style order-in staple: sushi. When it's a sweat-inducing 99 degrees in the city, the last thing you want to do is go outside, let alone jack up the temperature in your apartment by turning on the stove. Thus, sushi has become our culinary savior as we crawl through the dog days of summer. Since we just can't turn off the little voice in our brains that asks, "But what's the fashion angle?" (even about the most mundane observations in our lives), we decided that sushi deserved a shopping homage. Surprisingly, there's actually a ton of fun stuff out there that capitalizes on our love of the iconic Japanese food. Check it out!
A still from Don't Talk To The Cops' "Gimme That '80s Butt" music video.

High-waisted jeans, thin leather belt, button-up shirt tucked into the high-waisted jeans. These are lyrics from Seattle-based Don't Talk To The Cops' "Gimme That '80s Butt" song, but they're ALSO an itemized breakdown of our daily uniform over hurr at MTV Style. You see, every era (and sub/counter-culture within that era, but for simplicity's sake let's just cap it at decades) has its silhouette: the '50s had poodle skirts, prim polos, and ponytails (try saying that three times fast!), the '60s ventured into mod, mini territory, the '70s had spread collars, macrame, and bell bottoms, etc. etc. ad infinitum. We won't be able to keenly discern the hallmark outfit shape of the 2010s until way after the fact, but one thing is for sure, and heavily underscored by DTTTC's track: we're borrowing so. much. '80s butt.
I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream print!

ZOMG, y'all. Maybe it's just a product of the East Coast's patented humid heat. Maybe I'm just a weather wuss. But MAN, is it just me or is this one of the hottest summers in a minute?? IDK about you, but for me, nothing puts a damper on a cute outfit (literally and figuratively) quite like excessive sweating. Thankfully, though, sweltering heat is a great excuse to partake in one of my all-time favorite foods: ICE CREAM. Which brings us to this week's Food Friday shopping exercise. We've rounded up the best ice cream-themed clothes, accessories, and beauty items pon de web and wrapped them up in this here little internet package for your Friday shopping enjoyment. Enjoy!
Kristen Stewart evidently has a thing for sheer jumpsuits.
Photo: Getty Images
Looks like Kristen Stewart is a believer in the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." And "it," in this case, refers to dressy, sheer jumpsuits. While other pop stars and Hollywood PYTs spent their Fourth of July holidays wearing various iterations of red, white, and blue, K.Stew spent Independence Day overseas at Zuhair Murad's Paris Haute Couture show in a black jumpsuit by the Lebanese designer. Granted, it's generally good form for celebs to sport the wares of any given designer whose show they're attending, and sure, the whole sparkly sheer look is kiiiind of Zuhair Murad's thing, but we refuse to ignore that this isn't that Kristen hasn't just worn this style once or twice but THREE times.
Make like Willow and rock an overall dress this summer.

Forget the fact that she's (still) not even old enough to have a driver's license yet for a second. Willow Smith is a girl with seriously covetable style and PLENTY of attitude to top it all off. So when the singer decides to tackle one of this season's biggest trends, you know she's going to rock it. From the full-length version to "shorteralls" (thanks, Girls!), we've already witnessed plenty of overalls incarnations this summer, but Willow's take has a decidedly girly twist. She posted the photo above on her blog recently, working—scratch that, werking—it in this adorable denim jumper from Nasty Gal. While this would be a totally cute outfit to leave as-is with a plain black tank underneath, the teenager took her styling to the next level with unexpected touches like a camo t-shirt, "Lizard King" Stance socks, and black Chuck Taylors. #killinit. Wanna steal her look for yourself? Find out how below!
Ciara works money print on set of her new music video, whereas Rihanna rocks it onstage.

When Rihanna wore a shimmery money print dress back in March on her Diamonds World Tour, we had a feeling it'd only be a matter of time before other celebs followed suit. The look was just TOO good. And yep, we were right! Funnyman Will Ferrell sported the Benjamins head-to-toe during his unforgettable cameo at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, and now Ciara's the latest to cash in on the trend. The singer posted a photo on Instagram on the set of her "I'm Out" video with the caption "#I'mOutVideo On The Way!" First of all, YES! Second of all, we gotta talk about that outfit....
Real talk: it's hard not to get depressed while looking at the weather forecast, you guys. We know that SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) normally applies to the wintertime, but considering how soaking, sopping, and downright muddy the summertime has been thus far (at least on the East Coast), this nonstop dreariness is seriously taking a toll. BUT you know what? Instead of succumbing to the temptation to sulk about the rain, it's time to make the most of it, starting with—duh, where else?!—your closet. So whether you feel like braving the storm, catching up on Netflix at home, or denying the grossness outside all together, here are 3 stylish ways to beat June Gloom until the sun comes out again.
FACE THE ELEMENTS
Beat the storm straight-on in these rainy essentials.

If you're the adventurous type (or just want to duck out for a coffee), stay dry with these super cute rainy essentials. The bright yellow Urban Outfitters slicker will add a dash of sunshine to the gray everywhere else, and you can never go wrong with classic forest green Hunter boots. Then again, if it's not a total downpour, we also love Loeffler Randall's rubber leopard booties, since they're one of the few styles that don't look embarrassingly out of place once the rain stops. Herschel's classic backback lets you free up your hands for the ultimate staple: your umbrella.
Selena Gomez and Kelly Rowland both wore suspender pants.
Photo: Getty Images
Take notes, ladies. Suspenders are trending, and we can thank Selena Gomez and Kelly Rowland for the latest iteration of the look. Just a few days ago, we spotted Miley Cyrus working the flipped colorway of the very same Chanel suspenders Rihanna wore on the cover of Complex. NOW, we're pitting Sel and Kel and their similarly strapped steez (try saying that three times fast!) against each other. Why two suspenders questions in one week? Because rather than using the accessories for their intended function—holding up your pants as a kind of belt substitute—Gomez and Rowland's are purely decorative, slung from their shoulders and dangling around their hips.
