Lil Wayne leopard pants

How weird is it that, like, four days ago we found ways to cop Lil' Wayne's performance style for ladies and then Weezy turns up to the 2011 VMAs in WOMEN'S PANTS?! It's like he's reading our blog or something (I see you lookin' at me, Weezy. Hayyyy) and wants to make it incredibly easy for us! His leopard pants were soo spot on (heh) that we were already mega-eyeballing them during the show on Sunday night. Luckily, you can grab these fierce Tripp NYC leopard pants for only $44 (boys: buy two sizes up to sag like him). I mean, it's no surprise that we're loving Lil' Wayne's performance outfit—he always finds a way to wear cop-worthy (and attractive!) clothes onstage. He paired his leopard pants with a Louis Vuitton belt, rhinestone-studded red Vans, blue Polo Ralph Lauren undies, and neon pink and studded bracelets. Remember though, he's not the first rapper to sport women's clothing—we'll never let Kanye live down wearing that Celine blouse to Coachella. But both rappers MUST be doing something right since they're both on the road to releasing their first fashion lines. Hmm. If more dudes started wearing ladies duds we'd have fashion designers budding up EVERYWHERE. Get to it, guys.

Katy Perry, Lil Mama, and Jessie J wear the best shoes of the night at the 2011 VMAs.

I hope you didn't think we forgot about the most important (in MY humble opinion - though, I know I'm biased) accessory in our 2011 VMA style round-up! Oh, ye of little faith. There were just SO many options, such A-grade shoes game (not to mention outfit changes) that we needed to let it all marinate before we made our selections. The flipbook is full of our picks, but our three most exemplary well-heeled ladies of the night were big winner Katy Perry, MTV family staple Lil Mama, and VMA House Artist Jessie J.

Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Hudgens at the 2011 VMAs.

During the 2011 VMAs, we saw SO MANY celebs sparkling on the red carpet! From Jessie J and JWOWW to Demi Lovato and Kelly Rowland, the ladies were literally lighting up the place with their shimmery dresses. But when we saw Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Hudgens we did a double take—they were both sporting super similar long silver dresses (try saying that 10 times fast! Because I can't :( ). The brunette beauties opted for low cut skintight metallic gowns AND glistening silver cuffs, but their hair game was totally different. Kim kept her look more relaxed with free-flowing strands paired with a cap-sleeved KaufmanFranco silver gown and no necklace. Vanessa piled on the metal and went with '40s glam finger wave curls to complement her Candie's dress. (Yes, THAT Candie's. We swear!) They both opted for a sultry smoky eye, but between these two looks, we like Kim's overall ensemble better! Her not-too-done-up 'do paired with an ultra fancy dress makes her look chic AND totally VMA-appropriate. Kudos to you, Kim!

Snooki, Jessie J, and JWOWW at the 2011 VMAs.

If there's one word to describe the VMA style this year, it's "fierce." From Nicki Minaj's candy raver outfit to Katy Perry's Asian-inspired ensemble, the ladies BUH-ROUGHT it on the red carpet. And when it came to their makeup, it was no different! VMA house artist Jessie J and Jersey Shore ladies Snooki and JWOWW fierceified (What? That's a word.) their makeup looks with super dramatic eyes that made a lasting impression.

After her SHOWSTOPPING VMA outfit caused a scream-fest both before and during the awards for its DARING use of a surgical mask (not to mention layers of metal, lace, tights, animal socks, mishmashed leg warmers, and an errant doll-baby thrown in for just the right amount of added whimsy), Nicki Minaj continued down her candy-colored road of many colors at the VMA afterparty for Lil Wayne's The Carter IV. She arrived at Boulevard3 in Hollywood wearing a slightly toned down yet still pink, pink, and MORE PINK formfitting outfit that hinted at the TOKYO-TASTIC cartoon character she played earlier in the eve. While her afterparty outfit might not be as HARAJU-KU-KU as her awards show one, we still think its playful mix of Japanese street style with Barbie doll aesthetics is worthy of a full-on, anatomical BREAKDOWN!

Nicki Minaj at the 2011 VMAs.

Nicki Minaj was nothing short of a JOYOUSLY BIZARRE REVELATION at this year's VMAs with her much photographed and blogged about futuristic candy-pop, Harajuku-esque, club kid ensemble. (Did we forget to add cartoon robot baby-nurse? Please FORGIVE.) The Barbie-loving Best Hip Hop video winner (ONE FOR THE LADIES!!!), sent the entire VMA red carpet pre-show crowd into a screaming FRENZY when she arrived, her typically diminutive figure eLONGated by a towering beehive of bubble gum pink and lemonade yellow hair buns resting atop her head like undulating saltwater taffy (YUMMM). But it wasn't until she stood still, a Whoozit-inspired stuffed toy dangling all the way to the ground from her finger, that we had a gummi bear-induced EUREKA moment. Could Nicki Minaj's outfit be an ode to the candy raver days of yore?

Selena Gomez's outfits at the 2011 VMAs.
Photo: Getty Images

Any way you dice it, Selena Gomez looked in-CRED-ible at the 2011 VMAs. On the black carpet at the preshow, she was a vision in a lacy black Julien MacDonald gown. The dramatic hi-low hem, the sulty strategic sheer paneling, that NECKLINE. We die. If she weren't so stinkin' sweet, this would be THE perfect outfit for some classically seductive villainess. But Selena Gomez is wearing it, so it just looks sophisticated and insanely HOT (and not scary).

Lady Gaga as Jo Calderone by Terry Richardson.
Photo: Terry Richardson

Now, it's OFFICIAL. First, a prominent feature in the "Yoü and I" music video. Then, an all-night appearance at the 2011 VMAs. And now, Lady Gaga's dude alter ego Jo Calderone has been immortalized by the white-hot flashbulbs of legendary rock and roll photographer Terry Richardson. This makes Jo, we think, a bit of his own bona fide seperate entity, breathing new and individual light to what had seemed at first a fleeting character (most likely Gaga's aim all along, but we aren't mind readers). Jo's style is simple—white tees, black slacks, Elvis-esque pompadour—but that's what makes him the perfect subject for a Terry Richardson shoot. The photos are classically Terry—beautiful, clean, raw, and REAL. Peep the rest of the photos AND last night's live performance of "Yoü and I" at the 2011 VMAs after the jump!

Justin Bieber channels Kanye West at the 2011 VMAs.
Photo: Getty Images

So this is one of those times when we're almost like, "Whoa, how DARE we make a comparison this colossal??" but then a second glance at this side-by-side convinces us that the better question is: Really, how could we NOT?? Justin Bieber and Kanye West are two mammothly successful mega-stars of humans who are ultra-famous and infamous, each in his own right. They have their own styles—musically and sartorially—and seldom are the two mentioned in the same breath. Until now. Because maybe we're crazy, or we're so punch-drunk from marathon blogging the WAY eventful 2011 VMAs that we're apt to say anything in such a fragile mental state as this, but we're declaring that Bieber's outfit HAS to be some sort of homage (be it subconscious or not) to Yeezy's 2010 VMA performance outfit!

Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and JoJo in shapely dresses at the 2011 VMAs.

Although we expected a "statement" from Lady Gaga at last night's VMAs, we weren't expecting that she would tone down the amount of fashion SO MUCH (while amping up the ah-mazing Jo Calderone theatrics, of course). Mother Monster is usually all about an exaggerated silhouette or, you know, sculpted, body-con, raw meat shapes. But this year, she changed it up—as promised—and allowed some of her female contemporaries to steal the dramatic silhouette spotlight. So, who tried to outdo Lady Gaga's usual OUT THERE outfit shape CRAZINESS?
